I started out looking for marriot points without an annual fee. I got the hilton amex before christmas without af in order to start accruing points for a far future trip to bonnet creek. I already used more than half the sign up bonus booking rooms around a bus tour we are taking, and the wheels started turning!

Seeing the transfer partners for ur has me thinking of the trip to paris i promised my 10 year old when she graduates from high school...

So to answer your question, i am all over the map, but it looks like csp is the place to start regardless. Then the freedom to get more points...I think i am already in trouble. Thanks for your thoughtful answer!

If your interested in the bonnet creek area...those hotels can be booked with URs....
We just stayed at Wyndham Bonnet Creek using UR Points in December.....stayed 5 nights in a 2 BR villa for 87,000 URs..booked with my CSR....studios and 1 brs....were less points but I don’t remember exactly how many

I think your plan to start with the CSP..is a good one...URs are very versatile

Maybe - DW won't want to be potentially answering questions about her 'business'. I am less worried about the late fee, and more concerned with the impact for future applications.
Just send them a SM saying that you always pay your bill on time and in full and somehow missed scheduling it and ask for a one time waiver of the late fee. Point out that once noticed you immediately scheduled payment in full.

Minor DP: My 2/27 eBay shipping through PayPal on CIP still coded for 3x UR. Unclear if eBay seller fees will still code 3x given that post in DoC's comments.

Well that's good to see, as it is shipping after all. Shame about the seller fees if that really changed, but I'd be upset if they changed the shipping fees. One thing to "fix the glitch" another thing to turn into AmEx...

You made me realize I never get offers on my other Discover card. I wonder if I have something turned off in my profile or they just don't want me to use it? Do you have two of the same card or different ones?
The same one with rotating categories. One is a year old, the other is 32 years old.

I have searched for 20 minutes and am still coming up empty! Someone last week replied to me about Plastiq and spelled out referrals and ways to save. I cannot find that post anywhere, and I want to contact the person.

Join the club! Once you get one you want them all.

I think UR points really are very useful, and aside from them removing Disney from the travel options (what was it, #NotUltimateRewards in the twitter campaign? very fitting in that instance), a versatile point system for the scenarios you mentioned. Since you mentioned some long term goals, I'd just keep in mind that things can change and have a back up plan. (the aforementioned Disney removal, which was recent and painful for some that were ready to redeem) As long as Chase doesn't nerf the 1cpp cash redemption options, then I still consider it a fairly safe rewards program long term.

Another nice thing currently is Chase allows PC's between their cards so you could get the CSP, PC it to a Freedom, and then when you are ready to redeem your points - if you're not eligible to apply for it outright again - you can PC it back to a CSP or CSR to take advantage of those benefits. Also, I can't remember if I mentioned it to you or someone else, but Chase allows you to pool your points within a household by allowing transfers to other cards. So you can earn points on the Freedom card, then transfer those points to the CSP to redeem for the increased value; which is why getting a Chase Trifecta, or Quadfecta, if you are going to use them for ongoing spend. Or just getting them all for the sign up bonuses and blowing it all at once, that's not bad either :)

That said, there's a lot to look into as others have said - first, are you eligible, being under 5/24?, open to business cards? (they are subject to the 5/24 rule but don't add to your card count so you can get more Chase cards that way) how quickly do you need to ramp up, can you wait for special offers to come out, or willing to takes some risks? Not everything has to be answered all at once but once you decide how to want to approach Chase, you can build a roadmap of card acquisitions, and we'd be happy to help along the way.

I've got it and it Chrome. I only get the emails for the IT card, I wonder if that means they just target the plain IT members. I wonder how much else I've been missing by not having the plain card until now

I hope this isn't their replacement for the Discover Deals portal, targeted offers instead.

It’s March 1 which means I have an itch to apply for a new card... :rotfl2:

Same here! :wave2:

Do they show JAL flights at all on AA? I’m not even sure I’ve checked. I’ve just been looked at BA and Alaska to check for award availability. AA wants an insane amount of miles to get you there on their planes, and it’s usually crappy flights!

Yeah, I feel like they don’t. I’ve only ever booked JAL through their own website. I know we looked at AA once years ago & found the same crappy “fake business” award tickets so when I saw your post I thought, oh no!

Now, of course, I know you can search via alliance partners :teacher: But I forgot Alaska existed & BA had the same lousy flights as AA did.

I'm so glad you're posting about this. I'm following along. I never realized there were so many different portals to use my AA miles. Watching and learning. And I hope you get a good flight in a lie-flat seat. That's a long trip!

Just ordered 3 normal, not razorback, ladies tanks off amazon with minnie, goofy and mickey on them. Now I just need to find one with sadness and edna mode. I have at least found an etsy seller that sells the shirt or just the iron on with sadness if I can find a suitable blue tank for it. And I found a great edna one but I'm not paying 25 plus shipping. Best part was I used all earned gc so nothing oop

It sounds like you're finding ways to reach the minimum spend requirements. :)

I'll echo what others have said about using Plastiq for meeting minimum spending requirements if the signup bonus outweighs the cost in using it. @Lain gave you a good rundown on how it works. There is a targeted Plastiq promo for current Plastiq users to introduce new business users to get 10,000 fee free dollars after sending 10,000 through Plastiq. I asked here yesterday if anyone else had gotten it and @wendow said she had, and today I saw @disneybirds mention having it also. The terms on that require that the charges be put on a business credit card (for your business Plastiq account) and the 10,000 needs to be spent by May 31, 2019. The CIP with its 80K signup bonus would be a worthwhile one especially since you already have the CSR that stretches the value of the $800 CIP signup into $1200 through the Chase CSR UR travel portal. If you signed up using one of our codes (look under Misc at our dischurner group where we post our support links and use one with the higher offer), you'd get $10,000 FFD after your first $10,000 of checks sent through Plastiq - resulting in a net 1.25% fee on $20,000. Then if you end up get targeted with a promo for your Plastiq account, you could refer your DH to Plastiq, or use the standard 500 FFD for his new account (and you getting 1000 FFD into yours). I've only had a Plastiq account for maybe 6 months, and I know others have had one longer than I have (and not very many piped up yesterday when I asked if anyone else had gotten it) so I don't know how Plastiq determines who they target with the promos.

Some details about Plastiq that aren't immediately obvious are: 1) The name on the credit card used for payment does not need to match the name on the Plastiq account, and 2) You can use a business credit card as payment in a personal account.

I think all of us here who churn have excellent credit scores. We're fastidious about paying balances off in full (there might be a few who utilize the 0% balance transfer rates) and that is essential. I have 29 (combined personal and business) open accounts, I've opened 14 of them in the last 24 months, and my score has stayed between 820-850. You can do this and maintain your excellent credit. Now, if you're planning on taking out loans to purchase more farms in the future, then you probably need to not go too crazy with new card applications since lenders may look at that askance.

or @disneybirds -

Welcome to the thread! I know that several people recommended Plastiq. I just received a email that if you refer a business that spends $10K, then you and the referred company will each get $10K in fee free dollars to spend. That ends up being $30K in payments you could run through credit cards for $250. Since it is a targeted promotion, if you are interested you could go ahead and sign up for Plastiq to see if you get the email. Just a thought.

or @Lain -

6% fee is way too high to be paying with a credit card.

Have you considered using Plastiq? Plastiq is a bill pay service that lets you use any credit card to make a payment towards a recipient (subject to some restrictions for Visa and Amex cards). You pay the amount due, Plastiq charges a fee of 2.5% of the payment amount, Plastiq sends a check or electronic payment (if supported) to your payee. Keep in mind that checks can take 7-10 business days to arrive. Plastiq is not intended to be a peer-to-peer payment service (for that there's PayPal and Venmo if your payees accept it). Plastiq's business is really intended for payments of bills and invoices, and it sounds like your business has a lot of these.

Plastiq's TOS:

Note that under the above terms, you could be paying your mortgage with a Mastercard or Discover. You could be paying your business expenses with a Visa. You could be paying taxes and utilities with an Amex. (Amex introduced a Vendor Pay feature this week, which could work with your business expenses, but I haven't had a chance to read up on it.)

The hitch is Plastiq's 2.5% fee.

There really aren't any cards that earn a base rate greater than 2.5% to make these payments profitable on an ongoing basis. Take for example, the Chase Ink Unlimited ("CIU") or Chase Freedom Unlimited ("CFU") cards that earn 1.5x UR on every payment -- A $1,000 payment on Plastiq would incur a $25 fee, so your total transaction would be $1,025, on which you'd earn 1,537 UR points, which you can cash out for $15.37, transfer to Chase's airline and hotel partners, or redeem for travel using the Chase Sapphire Reserve's UR portal for an extra 50% bonus, worth $23.06. You're still not really breaking even. If you have a business, you can likely deduct the 2.5% fee as an expense, which may change the value proposition.

However, if you're using Plastiq to work on MSR, the math becomes much different. For example, if you sign up for the Chase Ink Preferred ("CIP") card, you'll need to spend $5k in 3 months to get the 80k UR signup bonus. You might be wondering, how are you supposed to meet that high of a minimum spending requirement?! Well, you have $250k of business expenses through your farm that you could shift onto the CIP's (and other cards') MSR by using Plastiq. If you use Plastiq to meet the entire $5k MSR, a 2.5% fee will cost you $125. The SUB on the CIP is 80k UR, which you can cash out for $800, transfer the points to airline and hotel partners, or is worth up to $1,200 towards travel when transferred to a CSR and redeemed through its UR travel portal. Even with the 2.5% fee on the entire MSR amount, you're netting $675 to $1,075+ in value from the SUB. [ETA: @miztressuz rightly added the CIP's $95 AF into her calculations. Other credit cards may not have an AF, have an introductory AF that's waived, or higher or lower AFs.]

I'm not suggesting you sign up for new credit cards to cover all of your $250k in business expenses annually, because you do need to consider your comfort level with signing up for how many cards and how the velocity of new card signups may be viewed by credit card issuers in approving you for more cards or lenders for credit and loans. But you do have $250k in expenses that you can redirect to meeting MSRs if you really need it at a comparatively low cost of 2.5%.

If you're planning to use Plastiq, please show some support by signing up through a DISchurners link. You'll get $500 fee free dollars ("FFDs") after you've made $500 or more in payments. That means the next time you use Plastiq, they'll waive their fees for $500 worth of payments (saving you $12.50).

or @miztressuz -

I'm not one to pay more than I have to for anything, if there's a discount to be had I'm usually all for it, but seeing that number paid out through checks is making me sad. If I had that I'd certainly run the numbers to see if some of it should go on a CC. While you might not get completely free points or miles, it'd be heavily discounted. Or just think of it as a smaller sign up bonus if you can reimburse your fees from it.

My recent penny wise pound foolish story that hubby likes to trot out is when I bought the cheapest hot dog buns I could find because there wasn't really a sale that week. There were two choices, that package or potato buns that
we enjoy for 49 cents more. I was being cheap that day and saved the 49 cents. Realized after checkout that I missed the spending threshold for fuel points by 42 cents :headache: The program ignores cents on an order so I had to go back and ended up spending a 1.49 in order to get our discounted fuel. So by getting the cheap buns I cost myself a $1 more than I needed to.

Have you looked into Plastiq at all? It's a service that let's you put bills that don't normally accept a credit on a credit card and then sends a check on your behalf to the recipient. It has a fee but you can get some promotional discounts for signing up from a friend and supporting other friends (called fee free dollars FFD). I am by no means an expert but many here use it and there's a write up on it on DISchurners subreddit to get you started.

To put it in perspective, say you pay a 2.5% fee for the whole MSR on the CIP. That's spending $125 + $95 (AF) to earn $800 cash (worth more if you spend through the Chase portal). Minus those expenses and it's still a $580 bonus that you wouldn't have if you paid $5000 cash instead. So in your situation it's something I would consider.

But other suggestions in general are looking into prepaying expenses if you can. Like Verizon will let you have a $500 credit on your accounts. We prepaid a few months of phone and internet service and then just reimbursed the savings account each month instead. Some do utilities like water and electric similarly. Double check everything that comes out of you checking and see if they have updated billing options. Our water just changed to Speedpay and we can use a CC now for a flat fee of $2.25, so that's an option for us now. Can also give up category spend to put everything towards MSR, your return will be higher.

I might have missed a couple folks too...

Got a phone call from Schwab today (applied for a checking account a few days ago). Said they saw I'd applied for an account, he noted that I had investment accounts with them and asked what I planned to do with it and then asked if I needed assistance transferring funds from another bank. At first I was a bit weary (my Chex should just read LOL at this point) but when he asked if I needed assistance with my new account I realized they'd opened it and I was dealing with a standard welcome call. I only wanted it for it's international travel benefits but the call of an Amex MR run is getting louder and louder...

airliners.net y'all. I have seen a bit of a schedule. It's happening! They say the pilot schedule gets posted on Monday. Initial flights appear to be OAK-HNL, then OAK-OGG, then OGG-HNL.

Here, i'll just share. It's on a different computer so I'm typing this and hoping for no typo lol This is flight attendant sched showing interisland, not beginning date.

As long as the flights from SAN are in operation in August I'm good because I sort of already booked us there LOL It was cheapest and non-stop from here. But, I love that SW is flexible.

Nice to see some inter-island competition coming!

For me, 20+ auto payments from one checking account would be more havoc. I don’t keep all my money in our checking account. Sometimes I make a payment from another account especially if it’s for something I spent for our rental, like the new roof I paid for last year. I have a separate savings account for rental property expenses.
I actually have a paper calendar where I list each card/mortgage/car payment. Each payday I go in and pay everything due the next 2 weeks from the appropriate accounts. Works great for me, not for everyone.
I also hand write each bill in my calendar and pay each one individually . I think the only automatic one is my student loan because you get a small discount.

We leave tommorow for Universal- cranky toddler woke up from nap with a fever. Pediatrician fit us in and she’s got an ear infection. Hooray. On antibiotics now because of the flight.

I was so distracted with the last minute pediatrician appointment and stop at cvs I forgot to check in for our southwest flight. Boo.

Seems like the flight must not be very full because 45 minutes late we got B 26-30.

Hoping they have family boarding and we can board them. But either way we’ll get seats together even if it’s pretty far back.
