I agree with what Glam Mistress posted above. Alaska was the hardest ever, until we went to Norway/Iceland/Scotland. Take layers, so you can add or remove as needed. (for ex. instead of a winter coat we all took one of those super packable down puffers and also a packable rain shell - used both some days). Take one pair of dinner shoes (I take ballet flats) and make sure your clothes match those shoes (if you care). Pack all toiletries in the smallest size you can find. I use a packing envelope and some cubes. If he needs a dinner jacket, DH wears it onto the plane and then hangs it up. It's amazing how freeing it is when you aren't ruled by all those things people say you need.

For Alaska we wore boots/coats onto the plane. I can get more detailed if you want. We did do laundry on the ship (once in Alaska, twice in Europe but it was a long cruise). I would much rather do a load of laundry than worry if our luggage will get there, deal with heavy bags when going from place to place, and wait forever at the airport for it to go around on that circle thing. We get off the plane and go. People take way too much stuff - some of the packing lists for DCL are pretty ridiculous. Even with 3 carry ons we were able to fit in on laptop, one iPad, a GoPro, a big Nikon and a lens, and lots of magnets for our door. So it's not like are missing anything. In fact, we have never taken a trip where any of the 3 of us wore everything we packed.
I pack one large checked piece for the three of us for most vacations. Each of us has one carryon. Mine is a messenger bag, DHs is a backpack. We have a change of clothes in carryon but the rest is snacks, electronics, camera, etc. Our carryons aren’t big enough for a weeks clothes. I will admit to multiple pairs of shoes but I do wear them all. If my knees or feet are bothering me I change which shoes I wear the next day or later in the day. Clothes tend to be mix and match, pants are all gray or black. Toiletries are in refillable little bottles, so they are small.

What type of carryons do you have?

@mmmears @Alexle2007
The hp concert was pretty cool! Dh and I agreed we probably wouldn’t do it again (it wasn’t cheap). It was a really cool one time experience though! Part of the fun was everyone getting so into the movie. The conductor at the beginning told everyone to cheer for their favorite parts or clap and everyone really did oa

Hey everyone! I've been reading the thread and TPG and my head is spinning. I'm just getting the hang of this stuff, so I'm going to pick your brains if you don't mind.

We are looking at going to Disney World in about 2 years, shooting for Jan 2021. I'm dipping my toes in the water of using credit card rewards. We have a stack of points already on our two cards.
We would like go take a trip to Wyoming and Montana a couple years after the Disney trip, as well. And I will say it is likely we will end up going to Disney again!

We also like to camp, so paying for campgrounds and such is a bonus. I'm really not sure if our best bet is a travel card or a cashback style card.

The current cards and current points:
06/15 - DISCOVER it (96,234 miles)
??/16 - Chase Freedom (90,676 points)

Our spending estimates:
Utilities - $225
Gas - $275
Groceries - $350
Baby supplies - $100
Restaraunts -$180
Miscellaneous - $300

What do you suggest? I've been picking through the thread and reading a bunch on TPG. I am wondering if the Disney preferred card is the easiest thing to do, but am also now wondering about the Barclaycard Arrival Plus or the Chade Sapphire Preferred. I'm a little hesitant of a yearly fee, but I know sometimes that pays off. I'm a little lost trying to sort through everything!
I’m at Disney right now so I’ll leave advice to the other great folks on the thread. With the right cards, you absolutely can make that Disney trip happen 100% FREE!! I’m currently enjoying my $8,500 8day trip that is costing me $0 :D

Anyways, I Just wanted to pop in and say WELCOME! Also - when you figure out which cards are best, please consider joining our Private reddit group DISchurners and supporting another DISer when you apply :)

I’d send you a PM about it but you have to first have 10 comments (I think you’re at 7, lol).

CSR & CSP now available contactless! Someone on Reddit highlighted they’d been added to the contactless list on Chase’s webpage. Further comments say it’s still metal.

Anyone looking to replace might want to consider calling the number on the back of your card. Horrid talking to a human I know but the crap Chase SM put me through when I replaced my CFU, culminating in “we’ve filed your dispute for this charge”, convinced my they have a team of complete idiots running their SM now. (And no, they never filed or noted anything on my card- apparently sending that message simply terminates the conversation for them and any further messages from the client receive an automated “we’re investigating” message.)

That's a nice stash of Chase UR points! When you're ready to redeem it, consider getting the Chase Sapphire Reserve. It has a $450 annual fee, but comes with a $300 travel credit that's very broad and easy to use. You can transfer those Freedom points and redeem them for 1.5x value through the Chase portal. No Disney hotels are available through the portal though, but who know if that'll change 2 years down the line. Certain types of park tickets are available. If you want to get the Chase Sapphire Preferred now, that comes with a 50,000 UR bonus and the annual fee is waived the first year. It gets 1.25x redemption, and earns at 2x travel and dining. When you're ready to redeem a year or more later, you can upgrade to the Reserve.

Ah ok. Those are "personal items." You can have one carry on and one personal item (backpack, purse, messenger bag, etc.) on most airlines. We have rolling Briggs & Reilly international sized carryons - they don't even make what we have anymore - and we've been flying with them for 8-10 years (got them one at a time). There are tons of wheeled carry ons on the market, with lots of different price ranges of course. DD uses hers more than I do since she comes home on breaks 4-5 times a year. They have held up really well, so well that I can't justify replacing mine for a newer model LOL. They are expandable, so pop out and give us an extra 3-4 inches if we want (then it's not carryon sized, so we only do that when moving from place to place, like during a split stay at WDW).

We also each have a personal item. And we pack as many things in these bags as we can. I can usually get flip flops, a pair of ballet flats, and something sneaker like (Keds, Vans, or even sometimes my Asics) packed, and I wear Asics on the plane.

This last trip I was convinced we needed maybe one check in piece of luggage for the 3 of us, but DH was determined to fit in all in and we did. The luggage would have been free, but then we would have had to deal with it, wait for it, etc. When we landed in Copenhagen around 11pm after an 11 hour flight, a 5 hour layover, and a 2 hour flight the last thing we wanted to do was wait for luggage. We walked off the plane and were in a taxi to our hotel in probably 5 mins.

Did they mention where on the website? I didn't see it, but I may have missed it. No shame. I would call Chase to have a replacement sent... right now. It would help prevent that nice metal card from getting scratched :rotfl:

https://www.chase.com/personal/credit-cards/contactless#faq List of cards is under the first Q in the FAQ. Looks like they plan to bring the feature to all cards, even the Ink family, later this year

Sounds like you’re in s great position to get started with some new cards.

For your Disney trip, do you plan on flying or driving/camping? If flying, what airline would you prefer?

We are currently thinking of driving and staying at Art of Animation.

Thanks! I am a little uncomfortable with the Sapphire Reserve at the moment because I don't think I will use the travel credit this year. I do wish the Chase UR points were worth something at Disney! Such a bummer. I'll think about the Sapphire Preferred.

Wow that is fantastic!! How long did that take to build up?

I'll look into the reddit group. I joined the boards here before my last trip to Disney, but mostly read other posts and didn't reply much. I'm very into the idea of using points to travel, though, so I think I will enjoy this thread! I'm hoping to learn a lot.

I’ll comment on the CSR card. We got ours last year and using the $300 travel credit isn’t hard at all. It goes towards a lot of things you wouldn’t expect it to work on.

The "cost" of a Reserve over the Preferred is very minimal. As @Haley R mentioned, the "travel credit" is very easy to use compared to other cards like Amex where its for flight incidentals of a selected airline. Train, bus, airplane, taxis, rideshare, tolls, parking, hotel, etc all count! With that factored in, the card costs $55 more annually. The CSR will also provide a higher UR earning rate (3x travel/dining vs 2x) and higher UR redemption rate (1.5 vs 1.25) when using the Chase travel portal. There are other benefits it also carries like a pre-check/global entry credit and priority pass lounge access.

HOWEVER, the Preferred has one thing the Reserve does not... a pretty blue card. HAHA I really like the way it looks more than the black Reserve.

Are those dairy free as well?! Because that would be AWESOME!
I’m not sure if the swirled dole whips are dairy free, but it seems like they should be. They even have fancy ones now with tropical fruit and candies.
http://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2018/...-disneylands-newest-hangout-in-adventureland/

We were at DLR for 5 days in 2017. Everyday the line for Dole whips was huge. Eventually my DS would point to the line as we passed and say “there’s the line Mom, are you going to wait?” Every time I thought maybe next time the line would magically be shorter. Nope. Left without even one Dole whip. It’s like a family joke now. Last year, WDW. Checked into to Poly DS and DH went to the pool. I went to the Dole whip line.

YES!!! So I guess it was not just for the anniversary then. Oh yeah, we still laugh in disbelief about how we went to DLR and didn’t get a dole whip too!

For next time...Tiki Juice Bar now has mobile ordering!

With the right strategy and a spouse involved you can achieve that result in 12-18 months with 9-10 new cards.

Nothing to look into on the reddit group. If you want in just tell me your Reddit name (or register) and I take care of it. :)
