I lost my engagement ring

I have to say that DH is being so nice about it. He's being very careful not to make me feel any worse than I already do. Every time I put on my wedding ring, though, I just feel sad not to see the engagement ring there. I'll probably miss it for a long time.

It wasn't my original engagement ring either. The first one was an inexpensive ring with an amethyst in it. Very sweet -- DH had a friend who made rings by hand, and the setting was two hands clasped around an amethyst. I lost the stone out of it. I still have the setting, and always think about getting that stone replaced. That ring meant a lot to me -- probably as much or more as the diamond ring meant.

I think Homeowner's will only cover a certain amount, unless you have a rider on it, then it will be the appraised value.

yep, most policies only cover jewerly loss up to 2500 (minus deductible), without a schedule listing on items to be covered. They are then covered at appraised value, both my engagement ring and wedding band are covered this way, it's an addditional premium on top of our regular homeowners, but worth it for the piece of mind. Also, your homewoners MIGHT require you ro file a police report before covering the loss, I think mine does.
