So, about 3 days into our trip, I got off the bus at our resort. I sent DH ahead because I wanted to snap some pics of our resort. I reached into my bag and my camera was GONE!!!!:sad1:

I totally started freaking out and yelling for DH who came running. He didnt have my camera either. At that point I was totally crying and a mess because I had ALL my pics to date on that memory card. 2 Character meals, the castle, plane ride, etc. It was all gone.

I immediately went to our room and called the front desk. She asked where I think I lost it and I said that we had just gotten back from MK and I dont know if it were on the bus or at MK. She transfered me to MK lost and found.

I talked to them (actually cried to them) while DH and DS went to the bus stop and talked to a bus driver who radioed to someone to keep a look out. The lady at MK was SOOOO nice and said it happens all the time. She took a description of my camera and case and told me to call back in 2-3 hours to check again.

I was sick. I couldnt do or think of anything. DH told me to go swim and take my mind off of it, so DS1 and I went and did that.

When I got back to my room about 1 hour later, DH had said that someone called and they think they found it!!!!

we went back to MK and sure enough, some wonderfully nice person must have turned it in! I was overjoyed!!!!

My lesson here....
*if you have a lap top with, down load your pics every time you go to your room.
*use a separate memory card for each day if you can and keep the full one in your room
*lable your camera and case with resort and contact info

I was never so upset in my life and I am so thankful that there are wonderful people out there in this world. The rest of the trip, I never took my eyes off my camera!!

Just thought I would share!!!

i'm so glad your camera turned up, thanks for the tips expecially getting a memory card for each day there, hope you had a good trip xx

I am glad there was an honest person that found your camera! Memory card for each day is a great idea!! Glad you had that extra little bit of pixie dust that day!!:goodvibes

Here's a funny story to add to this! I found a really nice camera at MK. I picked up and looked thru the pics to see if the family was nearby. Luckily about 10 minutes later, I saw a man with the jersey on that fit the pic!! WOOHOO!! A winner! I approached the man and said, You lost a camera? He looked at me like I had four heads! I took the camera out, showed him the pic and he said yea, that's me. Took the camera and left!?! Okay, I understand he probably didn't know it was missing and was probably clueless whe he left, but come on! A thank you would have been nice!! AHH...go figure. At least I felt good about finding the match, I can only hope later that day he appreciated it!!

Glad you got your camera back

Another tip is to write on a piece of paper your name address and possibly phone number If found please return to etc.

Then take a pic of it on your hard drive and on each memory card

Someone may find your camera and not be so honest but they may send you the card in the mail. At least you would have the not replaceable pics.:wizard:

You are so lucky! I was at Disneyland and I left my camera in the Rainforest Cafe. We were literally the last ones there because they had to unlock the front door to let us out. I called that night and got no answer. I called the next morning and was told they would look for it. I told them exactly where I was sitting and that the table had not been bussed when we were still there so it had to have been cleaned after. I explained to them that the pics were of my best friend and her families first Disney trip! I was the only one with the camera and we had taken a whole bunch of pics of my friend and her kids, especially of her 5 year old and my niece (who was also on her first Disney trip) dressed up like princesses. I told them I would be happy with just the memory card. I gave them my cell phone, my home address, everything. I called back several times in the next two days and went to the Rainforest every night on my way back or from my hotel (I was at the Disneyland hotel). I called several times when I got home! I never did get it or the memory card back! So you are lucky....

One other story, my son left his FIRST EVER Disney autograph book in an aiport in his fanny pack. He was 8 and everything had an address and phone number on it. We never got that or his fanny pack back. He was heartbroken. Two years later we were leaving downtown disney in a cab because we were late for our flight and the buses were taking too long. We found a Disney autograph book in the cab. Sure enough, it had an address in it. We sent it off in the mail when we got home and the family sent us a pic of them in Disney and a bottle of Vermont maple syrup (they were from Vermont). We all (including my son) felt very good about this! Too bad everyone can't realize that many things are irreplaceable! :)

How wonderful that some honest person turned it in! Great idea for the tip!

That was a great tip.Wish I had done that when I was at Disney once.I had a camcorder that got last.I left it in front of hotel when we were leaving to go home.Didnt realize it until I got home so called the hotel and no one turned it in so someone get a free camcorder.

My dh would DIE he just payer $700.00 for his new camera(his newest obsession) so thaks for the tips. We will do all of them!!

I am glad you got your camera back. The tip about address of hotel is great. I saw another tip where taking a picture of your home address is also a good tip. I still think if you take a computer with you down load pictures everday is one of the better ones. I also like the tip about using a different card every day. Two draws back on this is if you are taking a 12 day trip you would need 10-12 cards and this could get expensive.

Here is a tip that my father use to do to our bikes/toys when we were younger. Etch you name and address on the side of you camera.

Thanks for the tips.. glad you got your camera back.. I always put my business card with name addy etc in the camera so I can identify it,, also take a daily pictures of the kids so I can indentify them LOL:lmao:

lots of good hints everyone.

I have mentioned before on the boards that I found a camera/case on a bench in MGM and no ID was on it. After sitting there about 5 minutes hoping the owner would return, I walked to the Crocs kiosk and turned it over to a CM who left immediately to take it to lost & found at front of park.

So my advice is to put your name and cell phone # on one of those little keychain IDs that can attach to your camera strap. Both of my cameras have these. We use the cell # rather than home address because if we lose the camera we want to be called soon as it is found, while we are still on vac.

Most cameras have someplace to attach an ID. If yours does not, old fashioned white adhesive tape applied to your camera with the info in permanent ink might suffice.

I always say I'm going to mark my camera with my information but never do. I always think of it once I'm on vacation. After reading this, I'm going right now to do it!

It's also not a bad idea to write down some contact info and snap a picture of it, that way, it's right there on your memory card. We also take a picture of the back of our photopass card in case we lose that too. (It's come in handy at least once already).

I'm always scared about losing my camera. I'm glad you found it. :)

Transferring the pictures daily is a good idea. I always try to do that, but don't always have time.

I always stick an address label on my cameras, laptop, cell phone, etc. I figure I have more of a chance of having it returned that way.

I like the idea of the keychain id on the camera. Although my camera is either around my neck or in my bag (which I wear cross-body style) all of the time when I'm out. I take my laptop and download all my pics every evening. Partially to protect them and also so I can label the folders so I know what I took when.

where can you get a ketchain ID that can attach to a camera strap? I don't intend to lose my camera on my upcoming trip, but my niece could inadvertedly lose hers........she's new to owning a digital camera, only having one since Christmas.
