I just found out that I have a herniated disc in my neck!!!!

I thought about cancelling the trip, but if I don't get a WDW fix I think I am going to go crazy, especially if I am facing having surgery to repair it. So, I guess this will be the trip to SLOW down, take in all the calm rides, see all the shows and EAT!

I am going to miss......BTMRR, RNRC, Kiliminjaro Safaris, etc.

Oh well, at least I will still be in Disney World.

Good Luck....I hope you can make your trip without too much pain..:D

Aww, what a bummer! :( But ya know I think you'll still have a nice trip. I know I would enjoy going to WDW just to soak up the atmosphere!!!! Good luck!!

Bummer. Been there myself.
Luckily mine was not painful and I did not have neck surgery. Also luckily my neck gives me very little problems now.
That being said, I went on the rides anyway! :earseek:
When in doubt I had DH ride them first for a report, and I was protective of my neck.
Had I been able to wear a neck brace I would not have had any problem. But wearing a neck brace also means you can't board the rides.
I didn't go too wild, and still managed to do a few things -- that I should not have. I did take quite a risk at that time.
I don't see that ToT would be bad. I rode the back and in the corner to be able to rest my neck somewhat. But ToT moves straight up and down, so I don't think there was a problem.
Depending on HOW bad and daring you are, IF you decide to ride RnRC, sit in the front. The ride is much smoother up front.
But it is a real test of what you want to do and what you should do. :hyper:

I would say the worse ones where you really are taking a chance is the small Dinoland rollercoaster, Dinosaur and the AK safari ride.

What an awful thing!

I can only imagine how you must feel: maybe really cheated by the fates, eh?

But as you said, there's lots of stuff you can do at WDW, because it's the sort of place that has something for everyone.

Just to get you started, here are some of my favorites:

Animal Kingdom:

Flights of Wonder (love the birds)
Train Ride to Conservation Station (very relaxing)
Conservation Station (there's usually something interesting going on, and if you spend time talking to the CMs you can learn some pretty amazing things about the animals.)
It's Tough To Be A Bug

MGM:

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire
The Great Movie Ride (Corny, but fun)
A Milkshake at Sci-Fi Diner (tasty and you can watch the trailers)

Magic Kingdom:

Haunted Mansion (a personal Fave!)
Hall of Presidents
The Train Ride around the MK
Jungle Cruise

Epcot

Living with the Land (I love this!)
Spaceship Earth
Cranium Command
Universe of Energy
The American Adventure

Pleasure Island: I highly recommend The Adventurers' Club

There are also the two "creeks" you can float in at TL and BB! This is probably my favorite thing to do there. I don't know how easy it will be to get into and out of an inner tube, but it might be worth a try.

Anyhow, I don't know how many of my suggestions are doable for you with a herniated disk in your neck, but at least some of them should be, and I'll bet the other DISers on this forum can come up with plenty more.

By the time you're ready to go, you'll probably have a list of things to do that's as long as your arm! :hyper:

I'm sure you can have a good time!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am sort of looking forward to doing some of the things I tend to skip in favor of the bigger attractions. Another thing....when the pain gets too bad a frozen strawberry daquiri is just the thing!

Linda,

Definately take the time to do all the little things you normally rush by. And don't forget the layered margaritas in Mexico!

Have a great trip!

You will still have a great trip = just a different trip than usual!!!Just think of it in more relaxing terms and I think you'll be surprised how enjoyable that can be. Our trip a couple of weeks ago was a slower paced trip, after a commando type trip in February, and even the kids (DS17 and DS14) said how much they enjoyed this trip. It allows you to stop a smell the roses a little more!!!

Have a great trip!!! And hope you feel better!!!

P.S. I think the "Genuine" Magic Kingdom Pixie Dust is much more potent than the kind that we can all send you from here, so the trip will actually be for "Medicinal Purposes"!!!!

Sending a starting dose of Pixie Dust!

I am sorry to hear this. I hope you get plenty of pixie dust even without some of your favorite rides. Look at it this way, many of us would love just to go soak up the pixie dust, but can't for whatever reason. At least you get to go.

Have a great trip! Maggie

OUCH! At least you are well enough to take in the magic. I'm glad that you aren't going to postpone your trip.

I'm going to move this to our community board for you.

I would love to hear how you do vacationing this way! I have a similar problem in my lumbar spine and I know that I have to avoid all those rides on our trip in November. I am a rollercoaster junkie and I can't do them any more.

I hope you have a great trip and most of all, I wish you the best with your healing!!!!!
