Have you ever cruised on Holland America?

Since we are unable to get the category we want (on the Magic) during the week we would prefer to cruise, we (me, DW and DS8) are considering a cruise on the new (as of Dec. 2002) m/s Zuiderdam. DS liked the Oceaneer's Lab on the Wonder, but actually enjoyed spending more time with us than in the Lab (guess I better encourage that while it lasts!).

Any comments on Holland America?

Try www.cruisecritic.com . Their Holland America board has many dedicated HAL cruisers who can answer any questions you may have. However, if you mention that you're taking your son, you may get some negative responses from cruisers who believe children (even older, well-behaved ones) don't belong on cruise ships. I've seen some threads get really nasty. HAL is known to attract an older, more traditional crowd (especially at times when school is in session). Take it with a grain of salt, :D and have a great time!

Do not go on Holland America with Children!!!!!

My husband & I went on Holland American (Vendamn) about 2 years ago. It was a company trip with about 65 other couples. So we knew some people & had a good time, BUT

the majority of the people on the ship were over 60 & the most exciting thing to do on the ship was BINGO. I would never go on a Holland American ship again. At least not for 30 years or so.
