I know my friends here will understand this.

Congrats, that is great news. Make sure to have a mortgage burning party!
I won't ever see my mortgage paid off so I can't imagine how fantastic that would be.
I paid $75,000 for my house in 1980, and refinanced to pay off my ex when he left me. House was assessed then for $385,000. I owe $150,000 for my house now and we have had 3 houses on my street go for under $70,000 due to defaults. So I am stuck here since I would never get what I owe on it right now.
I have 20 years left and am 56, maybe when if I life to be 76 I will be able to burn the mortgage.

Depending upon your income, I bet you could pay that off in less than ten years. Have you ever read the Total Money Makeover? I'm sure your library has it. I'm 39 and a single parent and will be paying off my $274,400 mortgage within ten years. If I can do it, anyone can.

Good luck.

And to the OP... :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Thanks for mentioning that book. I've been meaning to get it from my library and keep forgetting but I just went on right now and put a hold on it. I told DH I want our mortgage paid of in 10 years so this is just what I needed to read. Thanks!

Did both of them. Made about 1 and a half months payment every month and then used our savings we had at the end here. Good luck everyone you all can do it but I also know it seems never ending but trust me there is an end and it a great feeling.:thumbsup2

Congrats on paying off your mortgage.

My plan too is to pay off my mortgage before my oldest goes to collage. If everything goes as planned we will have it paid off in April 2018. The idea is that I can then pay what I was paying on the mortgage towards collage. It won't be enough to pay a full years tuition, maybe 1/2 to 1/4 of yearly tuition if I'm lucky. I have another small collage savings account that I pay towards as well.

Recently, I've been thinking that maybe this isn't the best way to go. Without any debt, my kids will not qualify for any financial aid. That leaves us with loans and scholarships to pay the difference.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this.

Sitting here - at the ripe old age of 28 - 4 years in to a 30 year mortgage - I am envious - and curious as to your mailing address so we can forward out mortgage payment book to you! :lmao:

 Congratulations! :woohoo:

In all reality - I wonder how many mortgages are paid off each year?
It doesn't seem that anyone lives anywhere for 30 years these days!

Congratulations!! We had our first house paid for. Wrote a check for it the first day. But it was a cheap house in an inexpensive area of the country. Since then we've added $400,000 to the house and well... we don't plan on being here more than 5 year so we're not sinking any extra in to this house.

Burn that mortgage paper :)

Hang in there I was 28 when we built this house. and 47 now. Was by no means as quick as I wanted. But that is water unnder the bridge now.:cool1:

Congratulations!!!

We still have one credit card (not a big balance) and one car payment (less than $6000) before we can start paying extra on the mortgage. But our goal is 20 yrs for a 30 yr mortgage as well. You give me hope!
