waitresses/waiters, gas statation attendents, cashiers, etc. calling me hun, sugar, baby, etc. but it's kind of annoying.:o I'm thinking of making a badge or something stating my name isn't hun, sugar, baby, etc.;) Is this just a southern thing? I'd kinda like to be called HEY YOU instead.;)

Obviously a tradition that should be adopted on the North side of the Mason Dixon line.

I get it all the time too, even by those younger than me. It is because I look so sweet and innocent, I know.:p :teeth:

 ( thats for shep)

Shannon, don't complain sweety, just think of all the other names they could be calling you instead.

Snake-eyes said hi, Shannon!

Jason, if you met me, you would say, 'Hi hun'.
:teeth:

ok, maybe 'hi freak hun'.:teeth:

I had a former "boss" than called EVERYONE "Sunshine". We all crings when she said it because as soon as she was around, there was anything but sunshine. Then, she almost wrote up soemone for saying something similar to her. (NOT ME)

Laurie, I have been called ma'am and that's ALMOST as bad.;)

MJ, I know they're not thinking I'm sweet and innocent.;) Usually it's the younger women that do that and it's very annoying.

Yeah, the ma'am gets me too. lol But I have been called worse, so I don't mind the other at all.

I hate being called those names. I'm a waitress and I would never call anyone sugar, sweetie, hon, etc. I waited on a couple recently and the guy was constantly calling me those names and I just wanted to tell him to stop!! We use name tags so he knew my name, and could have just as easily used that, which I would have appreciated more. Oh well, it goes with the territory I guess.

Well hon, I must be a southern thing. Ya know sugar, it's just a habit they have. But I'll tell ya what baby, just say something like "I'm not your hon".:teeth: (Sorry Shannon, couldn't resist)

It used to annoy me , too. Then I moved to Connecticut and you'd get called other things. After that, 'sugar' and 'honey' were fine by me.....:D

Well, kiss my grits Sunshine!! What y'all gettin' so upset about sugar?

The guy who bags groceries at the grocery store calls everyone those names. He's about 17 or 18 at the most. :teeth: He cracks me up. :teeth:

99% of the time I get ma'am. Bah!

I think "sugar" is definitely a southern thing. I never hear anyone around here say that. :)

I'm guilty of calling children "sweetie". :o I mean little children, like K - 2nd grade. Older than that and they'd probably punch me or something.

FLO! WOO HOO! LOL!

Thanks, Willy!

I was born and raised and lived most of my life in New England (MA)..moved to MD in 2000 to be with my now husband..and the first time a cashier in the store called me Honey..I did a double take..most of them here call you darlin'..sweetie..honey..I just tell them that unless I know them intimately..there is no need for name calling..lol!..stops most of them in their tracks..they just see it as a friendly thing!..

I manage a local trucking company. My job includes dispatching the male drivers. This is often a male position and I feel 'degraded' when they call me Honey or Sweetie. I am sure to put them in their place right away -- and let them know that my Husband is the only one to call me that! Maybe if I was brought up with that kind of talk I wouldn't take is so personally.

I called the greeter at Sam's, Chief last week. You hear this around Texas. I used to hear Mac or Pops in MA a lot.

Just be glad no one is calling you "mam"! That one really hurts the first time you hear it. Especially if it comes from a kid!

i was called ma'am when i was 16 once. (i'm tall) :p

i think it definately is a southern thing. i grew up primarily in upstate ny and never was called those things. since living in the dc area, i here it pretty frequently. it doesn't really bother me i guess; i have gotten used to it.
