Yeah, I know about two YEARS late...

UnBELIEVABLE!

Went to Blockbusters in a vain attempt to get The Bourne Identity...... and left with the movie I've been dying to see for years. BLEW my mind. Of course it went over Michael's head like a 747 so I had to explain it to him and rewind the end but again, M. Night BLOWS my mind.

Michael's line "okay, a movie that'll keep me awake for a week...."

I still haven't seen it! Sixth Sense scared the bejeebees out of me so I'm wary now of M. Night.... I did see another of his, "Unbreakable" and actually thought it was a dud. There is ZERO chance of my seeing The Village in theatres - just the commercial makes the hair on my neck stand up. I'm a chicken!

I would like to rent Signs but must get my teenager and dh to watch with me, lol.

Bourne Identity is a good idea. I have that one on dvd so I should watch that one to refresh before next weekend when we see the Bourne Supremacy.

Signs a a GREAT movie.

The more I watch it, the more I like it.

It's not so much about ALiens & Invasions as about regaining one's lost faith.

But if you are the nervous type, don't watch it alone at night.

Truer words were never spoken...

I just hope most people understand that was the premise. It's easy to deal with the alien aspect and relate to it as a "scary" movie but I spent most of the movie wondering when he was going to "go back".... As a grief counselor I've seen a lot of what he's going through. Sometimes it takes just that ONE miracle to bring you back.

been there...doing that...

ITA, it all is about where you are in your faith (or lack of). Deep movie for those willing to open their mind...

We love this movie and watch it every time it's on and have seen it at least 5 or 6 times now...I've lost count...but there was one thing in particular we didn't really like and that would be at the end when they boarded up the house and then just stood there in the foyer listening to the aliens surrounding their home and then slowly made their way to the basement with no weapon, food or any supplies whatsoever. We just didn't like that part otherwise it's an awsome movie!

We loved this movie, too. But, we had to watch it several times to get everything he has put into it. On the dvd, they show some scenes they took out and I think they should have found a way to leave them in. They would have given more 'clues' along the way.

I saw it w/ my friends the day it came out like 2 yrs ago, heh

Anyway, I really feel it was good, but M. Night makes so many dumb mistakes that if you can pick up on em, makes you feel smart.

For Instance..

If these Aliens are so super smart and advanced that they can make crop circles, If Water is Poisionous... Why are they going to Invade a planet thats 75% Water?

And If they are so Advanced again, They make crop circles, they can jump onto the top of houses.. etc, how can they not open a door?

Just little things I pick up.

BTW, I predicted the whole "Swing Away" from the Beginning.

It made me wonder what was scarier; unfriendly aliens rustling around in the cornfield at night or an unhappy man losing his identity. I LOVE this movie!

Haha, I remember we thought that, too. I liked this movie, and my children LOVED it, but Sixth Sense was my favorite. I know a lot of people thought Unbreakable was a dud, too, but I liked that a lot, also!

I loved Signs. My DF didn't like it at all. Thought it was silly. And although he said it was "predictable" he still jumped out of his skin at all the right places.

I don't do well with scary, gory movies. They give me nightmares. I have far too vivid an imagation to watch things like that. But M. Night's stuff, now that's another animal altogether.

He plays with your mind.

As for the smart aliens in Signs doing some pretty dumb things, well we're supposedly pretty smart and we do some pretty dumb things. You'll notice that none of the places they aliens landed was near water, so they were trying to stay away from it while finding places that would provide what they needed. And after having looked at their hands, I don't know if they would have been able to turn a doorknob easily. I don't think it was that they were too stupid to be able to figure it out, I think it was a physical limitation. OTOH maybe they don't have doorknobs where they're from, and they had to figure out how they worked first before they could use them.

Frankly before I saw Signs I was convinced the alien thing was going to turn out to be a hoax and there wouldn't be any aliens in the film.

Unbreakable I've only seen on TV, and I want to get the DVD now. The first time I saw it I only saw bits and pieces of it, the second time I saw it all the way through. There definitely wasn't as much depth to the characters as in the other films, which I think led to a lot of the subtle cues and hints being missed. I think they're there, but they're way too easy to overlook.

Looking forward to seeing the Village sometime.

Since I'm basically apolitical and cannot handle convention junk on every channel, I rented Signs tonite! Wow! I really liked it. Of course I screamed right out loud when the alien hand came under the pantry door and missed most of the connections til the end, but that's typical for me. I was SHOCKED when I watched the Sixth Sense the first time!

Not just you! I think that's one of the glories of having stuff on tape/DVD. I can go back and watchin Sixth Sense or Signs over and over again, and pick up on subtle things that I missed the first 5 or 6 times.

And I was shocked at the end of Sixth Sense too.

I love having a DVD player and using the zoom function to close in and see things that one would ordinarily be able to read on the big screen, but can't on the TV :)

I cannot watch the Sixth Sense. That movie scared the you know what out of me!

Can't wait to see the Village, though!

I just LOVE M Night's movies! I have seen Signs several times over now thanks to cable and I still get chills everytime they get to the point in the movie of the first sighting at the party in Mexico. Don't worry - my DH doesn't get it either. Too bad for them!

Can't wait to see The Village.

ps - Bourne Identity is awesome too!::yes::

My dh loves M. Night's movies so our dd bought him the boxed set for christmas last year (signs, sixth sense and unbreakable). I think signs is David's favorite movie out of the set, he's watched it several times and loves the losing/regaining faith part.

Don't feel bad, Robin. I saw this movie a long time AFTER it came out, too. It was pretty good.:D

Michael and I watched it twice since I posted this. It's so much easier to watch AFTER you don't have to HIDE!! :earseek:

Discussing the true point of the film to my 11yo gave us a chance to discuss so many different topics. It's so easy to get caught up in the scary alien stuff, the fact that this man is dealing with his grief, something Michael and I know OH too well, gave us lots to think about.

Michael and I found God as our only source of peace after all of the deaths in our family. Seeing how this man lost his faith, using science as the reason for his wife's last words, upset him. The "miracles" he experienced were no surprise to us, we've been through enough to make a 3 set DVD of our own. Watching the way Mel played this man, (he was consistent through the entire film!) showed me a side of him I had never seen.

M.Night is my favorite director since Alfred Hitchcock. His ability to put the viewer IN the scene is amazing. I also can't wait to see the Village!
