I come into work today with a message on my WORK phone...
Disney has upgraded us from a cat 6 room 6060 to a cat 4 room 8024. We booked 6060 because it is midship and my son gets SEVERE motion sickness...(we didn't even rebook with DU because I wanted to keep that cabin when we were originally checking prices and DU was $100 cheaper) but I wanted that midship room! Whenever we have called DCL they always go on and on about how wonderful that room is!

I just called and talked with a Disney Cruise rep who was NOT the nicest person in the world and she told me that to go back to a cat 6 room -the only ones left are even more forward than our new room 8024! I asked her did someone else want our 6060 room and she didn't know.

I know I'm being anal and I'm upset that Disney didn't call me at home and discuss this change with us b4 they just "left a message"...the other thing the message forgot to mention is that we need to change our baggage tags or our bags will end up outside the wrong room.

I know I should be happy with the upgrade...I'm just worried that being higher up on the ship and more forward will cause more motion sickness for my son. I'm also angry that Disney just left me a message at work and not at home (yes, they have home# work# and my fax#)

Does anyone understand why I'm upset or am I truely being anal and just need to "suck it up"?
Thanks!

Not to defend DCL - but I think they assume that most people would be happy up grading to a CAT4. I understand how you feel, and if someone wanted or was upgraded to your CAT6 ask Disney to give them the CAT4 and leave you where you are. One thing, to be sure this would not happen just put on you rservations under coments that you do not want to be moved from your booked cabin and explain why. Hope everything works out for you, I myself would be thrilled with the up-grade and I think that would probably be the general feeling.

Looking at the diagram, it seems to only be the equivilent of about 10 category 6 rooms more forward than you were. Would that really make that much of a difference on such a large ship? When I cruised before(different ship) I couldn't tell much difference from any particular part of the ship. Sorry you are unhappy....if you really want the other room back, keep calling. I would bet whoever they upgraded into that room for a category 6 would be thrilled, if asked, to take a category 4 instead.

Thanks for listening! I've had time to think it thru and how stupid can I be?!?! It has been a really bad morning (both home and work) and I walked into that phone call after being in a really bad frame of mind! I appologize for my comments...you both are right, I should feel very greatful for the upgrade and not "look a gifthorse in the mouth" so to speak! Anyway, sorry for the ranting and I will be very grateful for the upgrade. I'm sure we'll only enjoy the trip more with more space! Thanks for listening!

We have only sailed in a cat9, because I like to cruise every year, #4 booked 2003, #5 will be just about free from what has been saved by booking the lower cat. Anyway I always felt move movement the higher up I got vs. more movement from front to back of the ship.

I wouldn't worry too much about the location of the cabin. I get seasick and wear the patch We always book all the way forward. The place I feel the difference the most is high up, all the way in the back of the ship. Plus, how much time do you really spend in your cabin? I have not had any problems sleeping.

Im sorry about your situation but I had to laugh at your post subject, isn't that a contradition of terms?;) :p ;)

I am hoping to ease your fears. I a VERY prone to seasickness. I take meclizine before each cruise and then faithfully every 24 hours thereafter. I have stayed in the forward section of Deck 5, the Aft section of Deck 8 (As far aft as you can go) and in midship section of Deck 6. I honestly could not tell much of a difference. Especially since I was really only in the room itself to sleep. Your DS may be more sensitive to the differences than myself and I could be wrong, but I think the change in location will not affect him much. Enjoy your extra room.

Thanks so much for all the positive replies! We are very excited and I am very thankful for the support here!

DCL has a very sophisticated stabilization system. We have never been bothered, although not especially prone to motion sickness. I would guess you will be OK but everyone is different. I hope it all works out for you!

I definitely understand your concern, not just about seasickness but the lack of control after control seems to have been offered. If we truly have no choice in our stateroom assignment, let us know. Don't let us agonize over the right room, the best location, the perfect setting for our perfect trip, only to take it away at the last minute.

I have read posts from people who have scheduled their cruise dates around finding the room of their choice open in February but not in July, or in 2004 not 2002. These are big decisions made on the assumption that one really can make a choice in staterooms and have that choice honored.

Personally, I would have no interest in an extra bed in my room, which is all I would get if I were upgraded from 6 to 4. Now, maybe an upgrade to cat3 would be a little different. We thought long and hard before booking. I am more and more concerned that my effort could be for nothing.

Good points aseafish....I think DCL should always ASK if you want the upgrade and not reassign the origional room before you had a say in the matter. I have a secret porthole room and if I got 'upgraded' to a category 9, I'd be very sad because we booked to be off the lower decks. Now if it was an 8 or up, I'd be happy! I guess I never thought it would happen without being asked my preference. I also never gave it much thought that it would happen at all because we are in connecting staterooms, although today someone posted that both connecting cabins in their group got upgraded. And yes, we were one of the ones that booked because we could get those specific rooms. I'm not holding my breath that they'll be calling me

What a stroke of luck. That upgrade is great. on out last cruise we
were in 8030 and our married children and their families were in 8028 and 8026. These 2 family suites are terrific. The location , deck and room layout are wonderful In my opinion, your room (8024) is among the best on the entire ship. Enjoy your cruise and the family suite.

I don't think your original post sounded ungrateful, at all. You are just a concerned parent who made a decision based upon the needs of your child and then had that decision taken from you!! I think your initial feelings would be understandable on a really good day!!

But, I'm so glad that you are feeling better about the upgrade, now. It sounds like a great stateroom and the location is terrific. I really hope that DS feels great throughout the cruise. Have a super time!!
