I know I will have a prohibited item on the cruise

We're taking a long, 3 part vacation - one if which is a Disney cruise! I was looking at the prohibited items and I'm worried because I know I will have some of them in our luggage even if I don't plan on using them on the cruise.

Can I pull out those items into a separate bag for them to confiscate during the cruise? (not firearms but pool floats, hair drier, etc)

Should I put our sound machine somewhere easily accessible for them to inspect?

Thanks for the help!

Putting the prohibited items aside in one bag is probably a good idea as it will make things easier for confiscation. You could bring it with your carryon and they can confiscate at the port.

Another option, if you will be at WDW resorts before and after your stay, is to have Bell Services transfer a bag of items from your first resort to your second, that way they will be waiting for you at your second resort when you get off the cruise.

For the sound machine, it should be accessible as security may want to look at it. However, once you get one board you need to take it and leave it with Guest Services, who will have the Chief Electrician approve it for use, at which point they will then return it to your stateroom -- expect that it will be away from you for several hours.

Hair dryers are not prohibited.

We've never had our sound machine taken out of our luggage for inspection, have taken it on 5 cruises. Last cruise was Jan 2019

Same with our sound machine. Not trying to get away with anything, just had no idea anyone would want to look at it.

I guess I’m confused by prohibited items and restricted items.

“Additionally, the following items are restricted for safety reasons and should not be brought on board.“

Is this what you were looking at, from the Disney site? These items ARE allowed, the items listed above these are the ones that are prohibited. I didn't know that white noise machines are suppose to be looked at, haven't ever had it done on 5 cruises, 3 different ships. They have really good hair dryers in the desk drawers, so if you need the luggage space, no need to bring your own. If on the Magic/Wonder, don't use the ones that are on the bathroom wall, they are horrible, use the ones in the desk drawer.

Exceptions for Electrical Appliances
  • Curling irons
  • Flat irons
  • Hair dryers (all ships offer a hand-held hair dryer in each stateroom)
  • Shavers
  • The following electrical appliances will be collected for inspection by the Chief Electrician and if approved, will be returned for use onboard the ship.
    • Baby Monitors
    • Humidifiers
    • Portable fans
    • White Noise/Sleep Machine

I would pull out all prohibited items and put them in one place (or bag, if possible) so you can show security when you first walk in. They will take the items and give you a claim ticket to retrieve the items at the end of the cruise. It's very simple and doesn't take long at all. We did a land/sea vacation last year (WDW and DCL) and my son won a basketball on the Boardwalk which we couldn't take on the cruise. We simply gave them the ball, got the ticket and then retrieved the ball at the end of the cruise. Easy peasy.

The white noise/sleep machine is a fairly recent addition to the list that will be inspected. I've taken mine on all my Disney cruises listed, and the recent Feb cruise was the first time it was taken at the port, along with my portable fan, to be inspected and both were delivered to my cabin by the evening.

Good to know. We just cruised in Jan and they didn't look at it. I'll make sure I have it available for our next cruise. My dd can only sleep with the noise machine, meanwhile it keeps me awake all night (I wouldn't mind if they kept it for a night or 2!).

There are white noise phone apps. Could you use that rather than lugging a whole machine with you?

Was it a misting fan? We’re going in the summer and I’m planning to bring one or two along for the land part of our trip too

It's really not the white noise machine, it's the electric cord. We left our cord at home and used batteries (ours is very old and we knew the cord would never be approved). We had it in our carry on for easy inspection but no one said anything. We weren't sure what to do so we just left it out on the desk and figured our stateroom host would notify anyone if necessary.

You can definitely set things aside for them to put in storage if they aren't allowed on the cruise. Someone on our last cruise did this with a drone, and was able to take it off the ship when we were in port. Just couldn't use it on the ship.

Going to bump this thread to not open a new one.

Does anyone here know if 'curling irons' just means curling tongs or also rollers?
I do not like using tongs and found myself a travel sized roller set.

My noise machine is battery powered, so guess that's why it has never looked at

If you think an item might be confiscated, but it in a ziploc and put your name/addr/rm # it with it. If it's too big for a ziploc, attach a tag, either tape something on or make a luggage style tag for it.
