Ok so when we originally set out to purchase DVC we were thinking we would close right before our 7 month window- (waiting on closing docs still- should get this week- want to book for second week May) Since our ROFR was delayed and we have no clue (but hope) if the sellers will sign and return their docs ASAP we realized that out shot at booking right at 7 months is fading quickly away. Any clue if it would be unrealistic to hope for a chance at booking BCV studio for three or four nights during second week of May at 6 months out? What about BWV Studio any view? (Second part of stay will be at AKV so no worries there)

I don't know why Im asking- reassurance I guess. I know there isn't truly a way to predict whats going to be open at a certain time frame.

This fades doesn't it? The worry about getting desired resort/room type/view for each trip? Don't get me wrong- we are SUPER excited about owning at AKV and we can't wait to try out all the different room types there- but we also would love to eventually experience the other DVC resorts too!

I hope twenty years from now I am much more laid back about booking my DVC trips and less frazzled about making it the "perfect" trip.

And THANK YOU :flower3: to all of you veteran Dvc Members- your patience answering the same type of questions from us newbies for months and months on end is MUCH appreciated.

You may have to waitlist. Last May my daughter tried to get a studio exactly 7 months out for bcv, but had to waitlist and did finally get it. You should be able to get in somewhere and waitlist elsewhere. Good luck.

Yes it fades, that's why it's important to know what resort is your favorite and that you buy there.

Problem is that with many, they only think that they know which is their favorite. Taking a chance hoping to make a reservation at your favorite resort doesn't make sense to me and that is a lot of money and an expensive vacation.

I am new to DVC (well owned for about 3 months now). I've been developing data on booking patterns for all the DVC resorts in studio rooms, and some 1-bedrooms. Since I haven't been doing this long enough to be able to have data on 6-months out in early May, I can only speak to patterns. The patterns I'm seeing say that early May seems to be slightly more popular than the time immediately around it (April: post-easter, or late May/early June).

Based on this, I would say I think the likelyhood of a studio at BCV is pretty low, but at BWV is not too bad as long as you take a garden/pool view. That probably won't be filled up at six+ months, but it will depend on your exact dates. As PP, you could also wait list the resort and see what happens.

See - I guess I feel sort of the opposite. I am very eager to try out the different resorts as well, but I feel like I do want to try them ALL, so I actually don't care that much in this case if we can't get into a certain resort. We had to book our first trip next month and the only thing available was SSR. While I don't think I would pick that resort, I'm sort of happy I was "forced" into it, because that will give me a chance to try it.

Try thinking of it this way - you've bought yourself into a whole bunch of Disney vacations...enjoy whichever hotel you end up at.

As Bill pointed out - if you get to a point you feel you absolutely HAVE to stay somewhere - then it's time to buy there.

I agree, it's nice to try out all of the resorts. We booked last minute once and stayed at okw, which turned out to be one of our favorites. Each resort is special in its own way. After buying into SSR we quickly bought into bwv right after because I wanted to get in there in the fall, and having the 11 month windows guarantees that. When BLT opened I had to add there because their points are high and the only way I can afford to stay there is by booking standard rooms, so again needed that 11 month window. If you can't get into bcv or bwv it may be a silver lining and get you into a different place that you'll enjoy too. I've yet to ever stay at gfv because it's never available at the 7 month window during my dates. One day.

As the popularity of Flower & Garden grows, the ability to book a BCV or BWV studio during that time lessens. It runs through May 18, so that may be a deciding factor.

Nope! I always stress if I am booking at the 7 month window about getting what we want, especially if others are traveling with us. Or I am budgeting our points for another trip.

Like another poster said, you have a long time to try other resorts! You will get to them all. While we have favorites and less preferred resorts, if we have to stay at a less preferred resort, we would make the most of it. It's still Disney! :tink:

Good luck!

I wouldn't recommend buying in if I couldn't plan at least 7 months out.

Oh- normally we will plan 11 months out (actually have our dates picked through 2016) this is our first time buying DVC points- so we have to wait for the contract to close/points to load to use them- why we won't be at seven months for this trip :(

I see frequent complaints about how some owners can't get any reservations at 3-6 months out, "not even at their home resort." They clearly don't understand the system. Just remember that your home resort is pointless when booking less than 7 months out. Everyone is equal, and you get no higher priority no matter where you own or how much you paid.

Good, you should be OK on a one time event. It is my opinion that the risks escalate past the 7 month window and that it's not a reasonable idea to buy in to routinely plan under the 7 months window in any circumstance, I really can't think of a reasonable exception. Just too much risk.
