Great recap! Isn't it amazing how many times you can go to Disney yet have tons of "new adventures"? I'm really looking forward to making some of these same things my new adventures very soon!!

Great recap! Isn't it amazing how many times you can go to Disney yet have tons of "new adventures"? I'm really looking forward to making some of these same things my new adventures very soon!!

That's what I tell people when they say, "You're going to Disney again?" Plus around here, lots of people have cabins on the lake and go every weekend in the summer, so I tell them WDW is my cabin!

Ok first of all, great updates, I think I'm all caught up on your tour with the fabulous Ranger Joe (yes we met but you will have to wait for details!), the rest of your stay and the TN trip. Amazing amazing pictures. Glad I wasn't drinking anything when I saw the "what not to wear" bonus combo shot. YIKES!

I didn't see those topiaries at WL, were they just there for F&G? Bummed that I missed them.

But for right now I want to talk about my upcoming trip. As you know, I don't do PTR's, but I want to ask for some help in planning my upcoming trip. I am on a mission to do things I have never done before - not necessarily rides, shows, or attractions, but more like "smell the roses" type things. Some of those things will naturally include exploring new tastes in the form of food and drink.

So I want to ask for your help. Please post some of your off the beaten track things to do and experience. Also - your favorite eats and drinks! As you may recall, I was unable to drink for the majority of my May vacation and I keep hearing wonderful things about Margaritas, the saki bar, the Backscratcher, lost on Safari.

What's your favorite Drink in the World and where is it located?GGS DO NOT COUNT! Not that I don't love them, cause I do, but I really want to try some new things. I would appreciate any and all suggestions!

Along with that What's Your Favorite Snack and Where Can it Be Found? Some of the things I want to try are the creamcheese pretzel, the jalapeno pretzel, the frozen chai tea, tonga toast, and corn dog nuggets. Anything else????? Oh - and I am not even sure where the jalapeno pretzel and the frozen chai tea are in AK, so exact locations would be really appreciated.

And finally What's Your Favorite Off the Beaten Track, Little Known "Smell the Roses" thing to do? I plan to hit the Basin (which I have never done) and I might even try a Kim Possible mission with a food/drink reward (if Jen's up for it). I am considering pool hopping (since that is permitted on DVC stays), so I might go explore the Poly pool and the GF pool since we will be on the monorail loop. I may go see the show at POR on our Saturday night arrival (Bob?) since we will be staying at POFQ our first night before we move to BLT. I have never been to Goofy's candy shop at DTD (I know, I know - embarrasing to admit but I am not a huge candy person). I KNOW I will be watching a Wishes from the Top of the World Lounge. I absolutely can't wait for that. I will also be taking my morning runs from the Contemporary to the MK and back.

Question - How early does the monorail start? Because I would really like to run one morning from the Poly to the GF and back.

Please, please, please add something to my list. I know you guys are all really creative so you should be able to help me out. :thumbsup2

Our trip dates are Sept 11th - 16th with the first night at POFQ and then BLT. We have dinner ADR's at The Wave, The Garden Grill, and Yak & Yeti. We have a lunch ADR at Le Cellier. We are planning to attend MNSSHP on the 14th. We plan to swing over to the Kona Cafe one morning for Tonga Toast and we are not sure where we will eat on arrival night but its likely to be CS or TS at DTD. We will also be hitting late EMH at AK. Will it finally be dark enough for me to ride EE at night. Oh please, please, PLEASE! :worship::rotfl2:

So much to catch up on!

First, drinks.

I HIGHLY reccomend you check out the new La Cava del Tequila. Check it out, they even have their own website

We had the
Clásica
This traditional margarita has been served in Mexico City since 1963. El Mayor Blanco Tequila, with Cointreau Liquor and fresh lime juice, served chilled with a cactus-lemongrass salt rim

Now of course the BEST part of this drink was our fabulous bartender who said "You said strong, right" And then topped them off AGAIN after the drinks had settled a little!

The cactus lemongrass salt was "different" but the drink was darn tasty!

The lapu lapu is quite good though you wouldn't want to haul it around, they serve it in a little bowl as apparently the pineapple can "leak"

I liked the Lost on Safari but didn't love it, a little sweet for me. Tasty though.

:rotfl:

The Grand Margarita from Hurricane Hannah's wasn't bad either. Quite good as a matter of fact!

I know Teppan isn't on your list this time but would recommend the Mt. Fuji if you somehow end up there.

I also fell in love with the Tusker Lager (Sanaa and Tusker House both had it) and enjoyed another good tap (Spinnaker, Spindrift...something like that) from the take out counter at Kouzzina.

And for a non alcoholic treat, try the lemon verbena tea at the grand Floridian garden view tea. My MIL had the Princess Breakfast Blend and loved it as well. I drank the whole darn pot!

I have to say, not to veer too far into non-A drinks but it seemed like I could find actual, real, espresso all over the place this trip. For once we actually packed too much coffee!

Snacks

Apple Tart from the Boulangerie in France. It is better than the turnover, we tried both. That whole case is amazing!

Frozen Cappuccino from the smoothie stand at Typhoon Lagoon (of the 3 I had on the trip, by far the best and was blended to order).

Counter Service
we had amazing lunches at WPE, Boardwalk Bakery and CS from France and of course, CHH! I'm not sure which of these you have been to already though. I know Happydog gives the Contempo Cafe pretty rave reviews for CS meals.

Things to do
OK I realize both of these are out of pocket (and one of them steep) and not really off the beaten path but the Illuminations Cruise was just magical. Beyond magical.

Garden View Tea. Would depend on who you are with but oh did we have FUN! And the food was to die for. SO good.

Last but not least, take the train to Toontown, get off and walk the path on the far left to take you back to tomorrowland. I had never been on this back path. It wasn't crowded, it was shaded and we all just really really loved this little walk on a brutally hot day. We were trying to take the train to tomorrowland to use up our SM FP's and was given this short cut tip by a CM as we wanted to ride the train as well. It was just lovely!

I'm sure I can think of others that are actually free and more truly off the beaten path but am brain dead at the moment. Which is a bit sad considering we got back last night!

Really? Amazing places to eat at Dollywood???? Maybe I will have to go back. I am all about the food and that place called Jim and Nick's in Murfreesboro was really, really good.

I just remember thinking that if I had to sit in all the traffic to go the 15 miles to Dollywood I would NOT be happy.

So now the smokies are on my ever growing September vacation list. Let's see - I have.....

1. OBX
2. Hilton Head
3. Charleston
4. Vero Beach
5. Pigeon Forge and the Smokies
6. Disneyworld (of course)
7. Tampa/west coast Florida
8. I also want to go to that island off the coast of Georgia...forget what its called.

hmmmmm....I think I am going to need a month's vacation. No - make that 6 weeks!

Hey, what about Seattle? :rotfl:

My dear friend who came up to meet me for dinner while we were in DTD lives on Tybee Island!

Great recap of the new things you experienced at Disney! That's one of the reasons I love going there -- there is always something we haven't done before to try!

Hi Mary Ellen!!

Sorry, I've been away from The DIS for awhile and am struggling to catch up with all "my reports!" I've only just read about you playing Lost and Found with your room keys, but wanted to pop in and say "Hi!"

Back to reading....

Kathy

That's what I tell people when they say, "You're going to Disney again?" Plus around here, lots of people have cabins on the lake and go every weekend in the summer, so I tell them WDW is my cabin!

We used to live in MN so I know EXACTLY what you are talking about! :rotfl2:

Tybee Island?

That's probably it! It looks like it would be a really cool place to visit.

Mary Ellen, I love your wrap up and await reading your final thoughts. Be forewarned...just because they leave their "teenage" years it does not mean they become less surly. ;)

I'm so glad you liked my wrap up and my final thoughts are coming.

You last comment is not giving me much hope! :rotfl:

Love your 'new adventures' post! I may just have to borrow that idea :thumbsup2

Please do. I try to do that every trip. It makes me realize how many new things there are to do and how many twists there are on old adventures.

So sorry that you missed so much of the F&GF, it was all so beautiful! Of course, that just gives you an excuse to plan another trip for next year during that time - this time it can just be you and Denny and you can do things the way you want to :goodvibes

I am really hoping to return in May again. This May was supposed to be the soccer moms' trip. I sent them all an email today letting them know when my 7 month booking window opens up,

Great wrap up! You must go back during the Flower Fest and take time to see everything. That is my favorite time to visit Epcot! :goodvibes

I will definitely go back during F&GF. I want to see all those topiaries up close. I do really regret missing so many of them.

We have it here in Louisiana too. For as far back as I can remember it's been here.

I actually noticed more of it today when I was driving home on some back roads. That stuff is wild.

Loved your recap. And I think it's great that after many visits you can still find things you've never done. That's on of the many reasons we keep going back. There is always something we haven't done before.

It's true. There is always someplace new to stay or someplace new to eat. Plus there's often a new attraction to try or an attraction that has been refurb'd.

Great recap ME!! I really enjoyed going at this time of the year too...was a fun way to start off the summer and now going again in the fall just makes it even better:hyper:
I was thinking Tybee Island too :confused3 I am sure CP will know for sure ::yes::

Tracy

It was a fun way to start off the summer and an October trip is probably a great way to close it down, but I'll take September. I just hope I'm not depressed when all my traveling is over.

It might be Tybee Island. I think there is also a Jekyll Island if I'm not mistaken. I need to do some research.

Ugggghhhhh.......having touble opening other windows. I shall return!

I like your list of places to to in Sept. We've been to Gatlinburg about 5 times in Sept, OBX once & Disney 3 times in Sept. Once the kids were out of here most of our travel is done in Sept, a great time to go.

I would love to go to Savanna & Charleston. Our next trip is to the Grand Canyon & Las Vegas at the end of Sept.

I really like the wrap up.

I love your recap of new things! I love that there's always something new to try at WDW!

I had the same Flower and Garden experience as you! I didn't get to see enough of it :sad2: But, you're right, it's a good reason to go back! :cool1:

I found something for you, a link to the "Titanic Experience" in Orlando! I believe it works something like the one in TN, where you get a boarding pass. I also think there is a room that is really, really cold and is supposed to simulate how cold the water was! :scared1:

That's what I tell people when they say, "You're going to Disney again?" Plus around here, lots of people have cabins on the lake and go every weekend in the summer, so I tell them WDW is my cabin!

Same thing here. People go to the same beach house year after year. What's the difference. Wait - the difference is that Disney is always changing and evolving. The beach resorts pretty much stay the same.

YIKES!
Thanks Cynthia.

Wasn't he just fabulous??????? :worship: I can't wait to hear all the details and I hope you get to the part of your TR before, let's say, December!

The TN trip did afford me with some interesting sights! What Not to Wear!!!!! - good one - I love that show!

I didn't see those topiaries at WL, were they just there for F&G? Bummed that I missed them.

They are actually located on the sidewalk leading to the parking lot. If you didn't have a car at that part of your trip you would probably not have seen them. I remember them from last September, so they must be there all year round.

So much to catch up on!

First, drinks.

I HIGHLY reccomend you check out the new La Cava del Tequila. Check it out, they even have their own website

The cactus lemongrass salt was "different" but the drink was darn tasty!

I heard the traditional margarita is very good so I definitely want to try that one. And I hope I get your fabulous bartender because they sound like a hoot! I will remember to say "STRONG!"

The lapu lapu is quite good though you wouldn't want to haul it around, they serve it in a little bowl as apparently the pineapple can "leak"

These are all really good suggestions and I will have to add them to my list. So Lost on Safari is sweet? Hmmmmm.....wonder what makes it sweet. I wonder if its the juice?

I don't think I would be too fond of a leaky lapu lapu! :rotfl:

The Mount Fuji sounds interesting. I do love Teppan Edo, but sadly we won't have time to get there this trip. But, you never know!

I am glad you were able to find good coffee. That's awesome.

GF tea - probably won't do it this trip, but I have heard so many wonderful things about it that I am thinking it would be good for the soccer mom trip, if that trip comes to fruition. We'll see.

:Snacks

I would love to take an Illuminations cruise one of these trips. I think I will definitely save that for a Denny/Mary Ellen trip! ;)

I love that path from toontown to tomorrowland. It's one of my favorites. Really fits the definition of off the beaten track!

Hey, what about Seattle? :rotfl:

I have always wanted to go to Seattle and I would love to go to Vancouver and see Vancouver Island,. So many places, so little time!!!!!

Great recap of the new things you experienced at Disney! That's one of the reasons I love going there -- there is always something we haven't done before to try!

Definitely agreed. Just reading through all of Cynthia's suggestions makes me realize that I could easily fill a day or more with off the beaten track things to do at the different resorts. It really makes me long for some solo time to do some crazy things - almost like a treasure hunt of sorts.

Hi Mary Ellen!!

Sorry, I've been away from The DIS for awhile and am struggling to catch up with all "my reports!" I've only just read about you playing Lost and Found with your room keys, but wanted to pop in and say "Hi!"

Back to reading....

Kathy

Hi Kathy - I know you are struggling to catch up with everything. Take your time! So nice of you to stop by. I really appreciate it because I know you are super busy!

We used to live in MN so I know EXACTLY what you are talking about! :rotfl2:

I would think that many people in MN would LOVE Disney because its such a great way to escape what I perceive as a long, cold winter.

I like that saying, "Disney is My Cabin". I will change it to "Disney is My Beach House"!

I like your list of places to to in Sept. We've been to Gatlinburg about 5 times in Sept, OBX once & Disney 3 times in Sept. Once the kids were out of here most of our travel is done in Sept, a great time to go.

That is what I am waiting for. Not that I want my kids to leave, because I know it will be very sad when they are gone, but I can't wait to travel in September again. We did that before they were born and when they were little. I used to rejoice when Labor Day came. I look forward to that again!

I would love to go to Savanna & Charleston. Our next trip is to the Grand Canyon & Las Vegas at the end of Sept.

.

I would love to see Savannah, too. And its 20 minutes from Tybee Island.

Grand Canyon & LV - NICE!!!!!! I hope you have a great time. Now that's a TR I would really enjoy reading!

I really like the wrap up.

Thanks!

I love your recap of new things! I love that there's always something new to try at WDW!

I had the same Flower and Garden experience as you! I didn't get to see enough of it :sad2: But, you're right, it's a good reason to go back! :cool1:

Always something new!!!! Love it!

Missing much of the F&G experience is definitely a good reason to go back. And I will!!!!!!!!!

I found something for you, a link to the "Titanic Experience" in Orlando! I believe it works something like the one in TN, where you get a boarding pass. I also think there is a room that is really, really cold and is supposed to simulate how cold the water was! :scared1:

Thank you SOOOOOO MUCH! :worship: Proof that it exists! I spent some time of the website last night. The whole dinner thing looks good, but a little pricey. Still, very unique.

The next time Denny and I visit Orlando I am definitely adding this to my itinerary. I really want to see this!

Wow - I found a kick @SS computer to work on this morning. I love it!!!! Had to share.

So, up next, my final thoughts and a few more vacation pictures. Then I think I'll do a mini PTR and close this puppy down.

Actually, maybe I can keep it up to post my link to my next TR. How's that sound?

I have the Cannon Rebel Xsi. The bottom of the rebel series. I really love it cause its easy to use and reasonably light weight. The bag is only a little bigger than my old camera so its pretty portable.

So enjoying your tr. I have the Cannon Rebel Xs so I think I am even more on the bottom then you. :rotfl: What telephoto lens do you use, looking at buying one.

Ah...kudzu, being from Virginia I know it well. When we were kids we were told not to stand beside it too long because it would take us over. :rotfl2: Goundhogs living on the hills on the side of the road love it though because it's a great place to hide.

Thanks again for the great tr.

Wasn't he just fabulous??????? :worship: I can't wait to hear all the details and I hope you get to the part of your TR before, let's say, December!

December. LOL! Probably before then since it was earlier in the trip.

The TN trip did afford me with some interesting sights! What Not to Wear!!!!! - good one - I love that show!
:rotfl:

They are actually located on the sidewalk leading to the parking lot. If you didn't have a car at that part of your trip you would probably not have seen them. I remember them from last September, so they must be there all year round.
Oh good, I feel better, I know that sounds odd but I'd have been annoyed if it was right in front of my face and I missed it!

I heard the traditional margarita is very good so I definitely want to try that one. And I hope I get your fabulous bartender because they sound like a hoot! I will remember to say "STRONG!"

well the funny part is we didn't say "strong" :rotfl: but of course we went yes, of course we said "strong". LOL! We got the Clasica, not the La Cava.

So Lost on Safari is sweet? Hmmmmm.....wonder what makes it sweet. I wonder if its the juice?

I'm not sure and it's not terribly sweet, just more than I think I was expecting. I did like it, just not love it.

I am glad you were able to find good coffee. That's awesome.

Well, bear in mind we just order Americano's so they are making us coffee out of espresso and we avoid the whole Disney coffee issue entirely. But espresso seemed more available this trip for some reason. The only times I had "coffee" coffee was at breakfast and it was just ok.

GF tea - probably won't do it this trip, but I have heard so many wonderful things about it that I am thinking it would be good for the soccer mom trip, if that trip comes to fruition. We'll see.

it would be a great soccer mom option!

I will definitely be stopping at the bakery in France. What did you have for CS there? What did you have for CS at the Boardwalk Bakery?

In France I had the ham and cheese sandwich, which is french ham, swiss cheese, on an amazing french baguette. They will toast it for you and it was SOOOOO good! With the apple tart as my dessert of course! I could have eaten it every day. Evan had the same thing and Paul went for the croissant sandwich and loved that.

At the Boardwalk we had almost everything they have over 2 different meals. First time for me was a tomato, mozzarella sandwhich on a focaccia bun that was to die for. Second time was the chicken salad wrap. The kids who got the chicken salad wrap didn't love it but I'm not sure they'd ever had chicken salad before (they said it tasted like tuna, which it did not, but it was "salad"). They had a turkey BLT on a multi grain that was HUGE that the kids loved and Jeff liked the Panini so much, he had it twice.

YUM!

The frozen cappuccino sounds amazing. Yum!

We had them in a few places, Auntie Gravity's, TL, Writers Stop. TL was the best, followed by Auntie Gravity's. The one at Writers Stop got a thumbs down from Taylor, I didn't try it.

I would love to take an Illuminations cruise one of these trips. I think I will definitely save that for a Denny/Mary Ellen trip! ;)

It's amazing.

I have always wanted to go to Seattle and I would love to go to Vancouver and see Vancouver Island,. So many places, so little time!!!!!

I'm not going anywhere, hopefully it makes it into your rotation someday! :thumbsup2

Glad you found a good computer!!!

Your plans for the report sound GREAT to me, looking forward to it all!

Hi!

I'm a DISboard newbie, and stumbled upon your postings. What a gift you have of sharing your life! I'm just on your first installment, and I'm excited to read about WL and the rest of your trip. I'm also interested to hear how your son Brian is doing... my daughter has really suffered with depression this year. It is so trying, so hard to not be able to "fix" our children, like we could when they were young. But I have hope that through their trials, they will be stronger and will be other to help others because they can truly relate. ;) I'll be praying for you guys! :)

:cool1: Woo hoo! I can't wait!

Today's computer is not so kick @ss, so I am going with individual replies! If I don't get to everyone today, I will be back tonight and I am planning on an update. I think I have a few more Virginia pics that I want to show (of the Natural Bridge which was pretty cool) and I have some more OBX pictures of the horses and of our jet skiing adventures. Of course, you will NOT be seeing me at a jet ski because my hair was sooooooooo frizzy I looked like a cone head!

So enjoying your tr. I have the Cannon Rebel Xs so I think I am even more on the bottom then you. :rotfl: What telephoto lens do you use, looking at buying one.

Thanks again for the great tr.

Welcome Aunt4Disney!

Thanks for stopping by. Glad you are enjoying the TR. I have a 50/250mm lens from Cannon. It came as a bundle. One of the photopass photogs recommended a 18/400mm lens which would be my dream but I don't have the extra cash for that.

:rotfl2: to the kudzu wife's tail! That's so funny. I bet that kept all the kids running straight away from it. I bet the groundhogs do love it! Perfect shelter.

Oh good, I feel better, I know that sounds odd but I'd have been annoyed if it was right in front of my face and I missed it!

That would have been a bummer if it was right there and you missed it! I loved that the topiaries were right next to the hoof prints in the cement! Too cute!

well the funny part is we didn't say "strong" :rotfl: but of course we went yes, of course we said "strong". LOL! We got the Clasica, not the La Cava.

OMG! :rotfl2: That's too funny! I love a bartender with ESP. I hope I get the same one!

YUM!

They all sound sooooooooo good! I have to go in and add these to my list. the mozzarella sandwich sounds so yummy and something I have never seen in Disney. One of these days I am going to do the quick service dining so I can try all these little off-beat places to eat. I want to go on a quest for the best counter service food. France is definitely an option for this trip!!!!! YUM!

it would be a great soccer mom option!

Agreed. I think my friends would love it!

We had them in a few places, Auntie Gravity's, TL, Writers Stop. TL was the best, followed by Auntie Gravity's. The one at Writers Stop got a thumbs down from Taylor, I didn't try it.

I have never stopped at the Writers stop so I am adding that to the list!

Funny, but I was just thinking about this driving home. I was thinking how I wanted to suggest to Denny that once both kids are out of the house that we travel to Seattle and then Vancouver. Many years ago I had registered to do a bike ride around Vancouver Island and then I canceled at the last minute. I still regret that. But I learned a lesson and that is that every vacation I go own gives its share of memorable experiences and you never look back and say, "gee I wish I hadn't spent the money on that vacation". At least, that as never happened to me. The only regrets I have ever had when it comes to vacations are the one I DIDN'T go on. I think, how foolish!
