We had a big weekend. The girls had their sleepover party to celebrate their 10th birthday!
First, we went to Longhorn Steakhouse for dinner. (This sounds extravagant, yes? Kids meals are 3.99. This was similar in price to ordering a couple of pizzas!
My mom, dh and I sat at the table across from them.
They shine a light on the birthday girl (my two are on the right; the cutie on the left is their friend who shares the same birthday) and everyone yells Yee-haw...Well, their friends did this quite well. (I am sure the rest of the restaurant loved it...)
Then, we headed to an indoor play center. (Where I got a discount for having a party after 8 pm. perfect for my tweens.)
See the play thing behind them? They played tag in it...I didn't get pictures inside of it...
When we safely made it home (it was of course snowing and roads were getting dicey...), we had a craft to do! 11pm- let's decorate our pillow cases...I wrote their initials on them ahead of time.
Hannah's friend helped her and unknowingly created something quite special. Hannah pointed it out to me, "Look Mom, a hidden Mickey."
We also decorated a bag to put in our goodies...
Then the girls went to the basement and did a gymnastics contest for about 30 minutes...
Next, we played the nail-polish game!
I made one similar, but we used dice.
At 1:30, (three girls went home at 11:30; 11:45 and 1:00), I set up sleepingbags and Soul Surfer. I set the timer on the TV for 30 minutes, since lights out was at 2. (My girls and their one friend had a soccer game at noon.)
At 7, they were up again. Dh started breakfast. I woke when the phone rang at 7:45. One friend returned for breakfast. =)
See my wonderful dh in the kitchen? Good daddy!
At ten, the party was supposed to end...but it didn't. They arranged for us to take all to soccer, one friend plays on another team at the same place later...and her mom to bring two back. (We had a lunch date with FIL).
We lost one to exhaustion...and all piled in for soccer.
Apple commercial...iphones and ipods. (They didn't use these all night. If I saw one, I was very casual about getting a kid to put it away. However, it was infrequent that I saw it- maybe twice once while waiting at restaurant...
They were not connected at all. (until the car...even then, they were playing and talking.)
The party ended with a win by the Pride team!
Only two or three meltdowns or sassiness (from mine of course.) Otherwise, a wonderful time! They have AWESOME friends.
