The news just reported that clothing manufacturers are going to change the sizes AGAIN. I thought 170 pounds was a little high for a size 8, but I was happy anyway.
I went to the attic and found a blue jean skirt, size 9, that I had saved from my pre-kid days. Sure enough, I couldn't get it over my thighs.
So what size do really skinny people wear? -6

I always knew that trying for a specific goal weight was not really what I cared about. I thought that setting a goal of clothing size (I want to wear 10s with the occasional 8) would be more realistic. Of course, clothing sizes are so changeable these days that I've realized that isn't a good goal either!

What kind of goal am I supposed to set??

I feel your frustration! I guess what we CAN strive for is to be healthier in our food choices and in getting our bodies moving with some exercise on a daily basis. Don't know what else to set as a goal anymore.

I am the same way. I want to be a size 10 with an occasional 8 or even an occasional 12. It really all depends on the designer and manufacturer. I guess my goal is the that I feel good being. :)

Changing sizes again? How can they do this since there actually is NO set guidelines for women's sizing. I can be anywere from a size 22 to a size 28 depending on who makes the clothes. I want my clothes to have a strict set of guidelines for all manufacturers. i don't care if they use my measurements like they do for men. Suits me fine if they do.

That is soo depressing - I'm sitting at a loose 16 right now and I don't want to buy clothes until I get to a size 12. I agree that the manufacturers should have to be uniform in their sizes. My mom gave me a 14 that fits fine but another pair of 14 jeans won't fit unless I agree not to breathe.

Take Care! Chin up, there are a lot of others in the same boat!

Just cut out the size tags...

If it fits right, you'll look good. That number sure doesn't mean anything real. I can wear anything from an 8 to a 14, depending on who made it. (I leave the "8" tags in, and the "14" tags get shredded or BURNED!!!)

Kathy, you are JUST like my MIL!!! LOL She'll leave in the 8 tags, but will cut out anything above that. Maybe I should start doing that with my clothes. :D

Kathy, what a great idea!! Can I go one step further and sew in size 8 tags?? :teeth:

Honestly, I never thought about taking the tag off! After all, it's just a number. Why am I letting myself get depressed about someone else's arbitrary number?

Thanks, KathyTX!! :sunny:

I guess the clothing number is just like the number on the scales. They don't really mean anything -- either we're healthy and happy or we're aren't. :sunny:
I love the idea of cutting the tags.

CUT THE TAGS AND EAT HEALTHY !!!

;)

Awww, I'm sorry that happen to you. :( Instead of choosing a size to fit into - set your skirt or another article of clothing aside that will be your goal size and work towards fitting into it. Once you can fit into it, go to the store and try on clothes to see what that translates to. :-)

I notcied the same thing last week! I was wearing a *ahem* tight pair of size 16 Levi jeans that I bought a few years ago while shopping for new clothes for my Hawaii trip. I grabbed a couple pairs of Levi's capris and the 16 fell off me and the 14 fit fine! I was excited but I knew I had not yet lost weight as I started by diet that very day.

I would recommend that you not cut the tags out of clothes! Why? What do you do with all your clothes that don't fit anymore? Give them away, of course! Your friend or the shopper at your local resale store won't appreciate not knowing the size of a certain item.

Just a plug for tall women... wearing a clothing size that would be large to an average-sized woman doesn't mean you're overweight!

I'm 5'9" and a 12. I'm only 5 pounds away from my goal weight, and even then I'll probably only occasionally be a 10, and if I lose any more weight than that my mom will kill me! I was on the larger side of a 14 last summer, and I absolutely REFUSED to go into plus sizes, so I started counting calories like crazy, and it has worked well for me.

I wonder why we get so obsessed about <i>numbers</i>?

My goal is to get smaller and I'm using my measurements as my guide. Those are still numbers, though. I'm still obsessed with numbers ;)

I guess we are so goal oriented that we must have numbers (of some sort) to let us know how we're progressing. Can you imagine pioneer women jumping on the scale at 4 in the morning before heading out to milk Bessie?

I hear you all! I am obsessed with numbers too, although I do know because I am feeling better physically and sticking to my exercise and and better choices eating plan, that I am also feeling better about myself in general. Than said, I think they shouldn't mess with the sizes-it will feel like an empty victory to get into a smaller size that isn't really that small.
