I just suffered through a book....

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - I'm not sure I made it through the second chapter.

Another I couldn't make myself finish was My Lovely Bones.

The Lord of the Rings books. *Everyone* I know loved them and the movies, but I find both to be boring, convoluted and boring. Did I already say boring?

Inferno by Dan Brown. I've been reading it off and on for the past 3 weeks. I've loved his other books, but this one just isn't catching my interest.

Wuthering Heights. My mom said it was the same for her.

I've been trying to get through David Copperfield for quite a while now, but just can't get myself to read more than a few pages at a time. I've read a lot of other Dickens and not had this problem, don't know what it is about this one.

I've taken a break from that and am steamrolling through the A Song of Ice and Fire set.

OMG how can anyone hate that book it is up there with my all time favorites one of them being Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice. I read them when I was in grade 8, again when I was in grade 12 and then more recently as an adult.

I have only quit one book and that was Eat, Pray, Love

I am suffering through the new Janet Evanovich because I have read all the other books. I cannot get into this book for anything. I keep tapping the screen to see how much is left and then groan. I keep hoping it gets better.

The title alone would be enough to make me sick not to mention that trailer for the movie! LOL

Na, I majored in English and a perk of graduation was that I would never have to force myself through another novel against my will. QUOTE]

Isn't that the truth! I promised myself that after I graduated college I would never again pick up anything by Dickens, Chaucer, Vonnegut, or Faulkner, the South's much-vaunted but totally boring native writer. :rotfl: I'm not a fan of fiction to begin with, so Lit was just torture for me.

This is the only book I can recall putting down half way through. I am a huge Wizard of Oz fan and was really looking forward to reading this but YUCK. I refuse to watch the 'new' Wizard of Oz movie that came out a while ago. Some things you just don't mess with.

did you know that Baum wrote a bunch of books following the Oz characters? they are marvelous books, you should try reading some of them.

I look at the recent Oz movie as a prequel, it didn't change my view of "wizard of oz"

have not read wicked yet.........

I adore the play Wicked, but the book is dark and ...well... creepy.

suzi

I LOVE the play Wicked & saw it twice on Broadway. We go to the theater often & it's one of my absolute favorites! But the book was terrible. I suffered through it too. It makes you appreciate how creative the show is!!

For those that hated Wicked, did you see the play? It's fabulous and I don't like The Wizard of Oz.
.

Yes, we were in London and my mom really wanted to see it so we did. It was better then the book but I still didn't care for it. My mom really liked it, though. She hasn't read the book.

I just finished one of DS's summer reading books. (All Over but the Shoutin') That book did not do anything for me. I can only imagine how rough it was for DS to read.

Wow, so many books that I agree and disagree with here! I absolutely hate to not finish a book, so it's only happened about 2 or 3 times. The one was The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. Just never pulled me in and definitely confused me, so I just set it down one day and have never picked it back up. Still moldering on my bookshelf though!

I remember in high school for English we had to read Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton. OMG, such a boring and depressing book! I don't remember hating a book quite so much as this one. It made me want to open the oven door and stick my head in.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Trilogy. Took me an entire school year to read all 3 books. I was determined to read them all, but UGH....I struggled!

I thought I was the only one who felt that way over those books. I did enjoy the story but it was a struggle to read the first book.

I hated the Wicked books! I read the first one and the second one hoping they would get better but they didn't. I like the Wizard of Oz. I even liked the prequel movie. But I hate the Wicked books!!! As I was reading the books all I could think was they made a Broadway hit out of this mess??!! I would one day like to see the play because it has got to be a 1000 times better than the books.

Do you ever finish a book out of obligation rather than enjoyment?

The book started out okay, didn't love it but didn't hate it, but around midway through I realized it wasn't my cup of tea. I pushed through it out of obligation because I wanted to see it through.

The author, from 1/2 way through the book to another hundred and fifty pages, continues the plot. Then, she says the last 150 pages have been a lie and they're what she WISHES had happened, but here's what REALLY happened.

I am unamused. Really, the level of my rage was ridiculous. ;)

As Meat loves salt, the main character commits murder on his wedding day and spends the rest of the book whinging about how mean everyone is to chase him because of it. Didn't manage to finish that book went back to Shogun instead. As for Shogun I brought a copy of the audio book and the man reading it does such a bad job of it that I cant listen to it.

The play is so much better! I love the musical. I enjoyed the book, but I understand the hatred for the sequel.

On a side note has anyone read the rest of the books in this series? I couldn't after the sequel. I have always been curious thought.
