I just saved 30 a month on my Cell phone Bill!!

My contract is up next month. I would gladly stay with Verizon if they would lower their cost, if not I'm switching to Straight Talk for a HUGE savings.

I'm in month 15 with straight talk with no complaints. I pay for a year at a time and it works out to $42/month for an iPhone. My kids are too young for phones so a family plan isn't an option. And when I need to upgrade I'll buy a new phone and use it for three years. I'll still come out way ahead.

Keep in mind that if you are lucky enough to have a grandfathered unlimited data account, you are likely to lose it if you make any changes to your plan.

Which is why my sister plans on never updating her phone. ;)

There are still ways to upgrade. I will never give up my unlimited data though. The day Verizon makes me give up my unlimited data is the day I become a Sprint customer.

The thing about Straight Talk though is if you don't already have a phone, you'll be paying full price for it.

Very true. I had my account all set up with Straight Talk and just had to call Verizon to cancel before I clicked on the final button. My phone with ST was going to be $350 but $45 a month. When I called Verizon to cancel they gave me a deal of $1 for the same phone and the plan was only $60 a month (2 GB, unlimited talk and text). Over the 2 years of the contract, the price came out the same and yet I know and like Verizon's services. Call them before switching and they might work out a deal for others as well.

Do the math. The subsidized plans stick you with a two year contract. Even paying the full price the of the phone you can pay it off in 6 months or less. My daughter has unlimited texting and data from Virgin Mobile for $32.85 a month. So what if she had to pay the full $400 for the IPhone. She was money ahead after only a few months. I hope T-Mobile aggressive tactics kill off the predatory two year contract plans from AT&T and Verizon for good.

I know, but keeping my current phone isn't really an option (It's barely functioning now) and I will lose my unlimited data if I upgrade through Verizon. I could buy a phone at full price through Verizon and not lose my unlimited data but I can do that with straight talk too for $45/month instead of the exorbitant price I am paying now.

We have been with T-Mobile 10 years and have always had great prices and customer service! Right now we have 5 phones with unlimited talk, text and data. (Data slows down after 500mb but still works just fine) My husband pays $20 extra to get unlimited (no slow down) on his. We pay $145 a month with all taxes and fees. We did buy our own phones but bought T-Mobile prepaid ones for good prices. 3g phones, Alcatel, for kids that are really nice for just $50 at Best Buy!

That's great if you have Virgin Mobile available in your area. We don't.

Verizon has done nothing on my bill..We pay 290 a month for four smart phones..My contract is up on two of the phones in May if they dont reduce we are switching, then when the other two are up switch them as well..

Kind of ticked at Verizon. I don't use much data, so I had the 300mb per month plan. Those with that plan were NOT automatically upgraded to a higher data amount for the same price ($40). For that price, you are now able to get 1gb!

Thanks to this thread, I found all this out, and have now actually dropped my data level to 250mb for $15. I've never used more than 200mb in a month anyway. So thanks to all that posted, I'm saving $25 a month. :)

Both of my kids have 2 GB each of data on our Verizon plan. I have not seen them double the data for the same price or reduce the price.

Am I missing something?

Are you on the Share Everything plan? If so, that would be 4GB, and there is no savings for 4gb. And if you are not (we are not, we have 2 separate lines with 2GB each) there will be no savings because it only affects family share plans (or single phone plans) up to 3gb.

Thanks for the info. They have 2 separate lines with 2GB each. Now I understand. Thanks!

We are paying $340 for 5 and my husband is saying we will be making a change when our contract is up too.
