THE game with Allegiant. I have been following our days for months waiting on lower fares. They do them as low as $9.99 each way and we have taken advantage of that before and that is what has ruined us for future trips. My threshold for this trip was $39.99 anything below that and I was buying. The first day I looked and talked DH into it they were $39.99 the next day they went up, but no worries I told myself they will go down again. I have watched them yo yo over the past few weeks with our arrival leg sitting around 69.99-79.99 and return 44.99-69.99 well today they both went up to 79.99 and we are 25 days out. :sad2:

I tried to get DHto buy friday, but no he wanted to wait. :headache:

Oh well thats what happens when you play the game its a risk you take. Now we will just wait and wait and if they go down again I'll take them, if not looks like we might be driving. :scared:

Anyone know how long you have to cancel DME or is there any penalty to cancel it at any point? We are now willing to wait till the day before the flights to make the final decision on drive vs fly so that is when I would know for sure, will that be a problem?

There is no penalty for cancelling ME. You make reservations so they have a rough estimate of who will be using it but you won't have to worry about cancelling - no penalties!

My feeling is that if you can fly anywhere in the US for less than $100.00 each way, you are doing pretty good.

wow, those are all pretty good rates, Here at our airport, those rates will never happen. OP, I hope that you get what you are looking for.

LOL I play the "game" with Airtran & Allegiant too. My last Allegiant flight had been as low as $19.99, but I ended up paying $39.99 FIFTEEN days out - so have faith. It was sitting at $79.99 from the time it went down to $19.99 (about 4 weeks out) til the 15 day mark. I booked at $39.99, then it went up to $167.99 for the remaining 2 weeks. So there's still hope!

Thanks for the hope. I have noticed alot of changes around 15 day mark too. I'm going to updated my calendar to make sure I check exactly that day early in the morning. I am watching them like a hawk, have their website saved as my #1 favorite on my cell phone and I have caught myself checking it when in line at the grocery store, on breaks at work, etc. I am getting a little obsessed, but the more $$ I save the better chance I have of talking DH into a return trip sooner. :goodvibes

Did I miss something? Does DME go to the Sanford airport now?

No, DME does not go to Sanford.

It's hard to take advantage of fares that go low withing 15 days of travel date because other airlines tend to have fares that go up within 15 days of travel date and you had to have made up your mind by then.

Did I miss something? Does Allegiant go to Orlando (MCO)?

Yes Allegiant now flies into MCO from most airports (not all). This just began in February 2010. :cool1:

Something I have found (which is probably just a fluke!!) is that Allegiant tracks the days that get the most 'hits', and their fares go up accordingly. It sure did seem that way when I was watching flights with them. One thing I found is that I would put a week before in and a week after the actual flight that I want, and then use the calendar part on the right side to check the price of the actual flight that I want. I hope the flights come down and you are able to book! Good luck!

Good tip, I've been doing the same thing with that. It seems they deploy every sneaky tactic in the book including booking up and reserving seats on the flights to make them look full. Today both flights in 2 different cities 2 hours apart dropped the 'reserved' number of seats. There is no way that is coincidence.

Ok so update on the game, ball is back in my court!: last night our return leg dropped to its lowest price yet $29.99. Sweet! On memorial day weekend sunday I think that is excellent.

Today I receive farecompare alert for airtran which is our other nonstop option. They have been running $421+ a ticket RT, well now RT is still high but we can get one way for our arrival leg at under $100 so I have that as a backup. Also in same fare compare alert delta has a sale going on which makes one way (but not nonstop) for $82 so if I see "game over" on allegiant I can book that as a last resort for our arrival and still come out cheaper than I would booking with allegiant both ways now.

Moral of the story: if you play the game, have the patience and willpower to stick it out to the end, other options may open up that were previously not available. and also I learned I'd never make it in Vegas I couldn't hand the stress of high stake gambling!

FINALLY................. I did it. I stuck in there and finally got a killer deal. $29.99 each way and traveling back on Memorial Day weekend on Sunday!!! I was in a huge hurry leaving work and didn't get time to check so when I got home from church I was fixing dinner so I checked on my phone and our departure leg finally dropped to $29.99, I did manage to finish fixing dinne and not burn anything and then rushed to the laptop and booked. I sucked it up and payed the fees even though I didn't want to, but I was to afraid to wait till friday and risk them going up while I was driving to the airport. So we are all booked and ready to go!

Sending lots and lots of Pixie dust everyone's way so you can score great deals too! :wizard:

oh cool! I did not know this, thank you!!

You have to be careful as they don't always specify if you are going into MCO or Sanford. Check the route maps first to make sure you know where you are going....

**Update** I just did a mock booking at at first it just says Orlando, FL as the destination. After choosing dates, the proposed itinerary pops up. Mine said Orlando Sanford (SFB). If someone is in a hurry, they could miss that... so be careful!

:woohoo: WTG! Have a blast!

Sounds like you got an awesome deal! I hope I can get flights that cheap! Have fun!

Allegiant is still $238 rt from Bangor to Sanford. We never get good fares up here- small airport means we are captive! I can get this fare by driving to Portland (~2hrs) and taking AirTran. Then I'll be at MCO and can use DME!!

The last time I tried it a popup comes up at the bottom that says MCO or Sanford and you have to actually click to acknowledge.

When using Allegiant, do you select your seats? Or do you let them sit you where ever they want to put you? I noticed there are fees to select your seats, and fees for luggage. I also noticed that Flights out of Plattsburgh NY to Sanford seem to only take place on Fridays and Mondays, is that correct? That will add to my hotel cost by two extra nights if I do that. I'm trying to figure out if flying at their low rates with all fees and extra hotel stays, would still amount to less than if I pay more to fly another airline that doesn't have baggage fees, and fly on days that prevent the need for extra hotel nights. Whats it like flying with them? Do they have tv's for entertainment, do they offer snacks ect... I haven't flown much in my life, but when I have, it's always been on lines like Air Canada, United and American Airlines. So in comparison, how is Allegiant?
