Sharon, I'm so sad to hear this. That is just a tortuous decision to have to make and I'm sorry you were faced with this today.

Our dog is about the same age yours was and is still in good health but who knows how long that will last. It is heart breaking to lose a beloved pet...{{{HUGS}}}

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

My heart goes out to you and your family. We just lost two kitties (16yo) in 12 days and it breaks your heart. I think the dog tag idea is great. When my babies died we took a donation to the shelter in their memory. I'm sure your local shelter would appreciate the supplies.

So sorry for your loss Sharon. I've been there too and know how hard it is. There is nothing much sadder than watching a beloved pet suffer. You did the right thing even though it hurts so much. I think the pet tag idea is a good one. I've had to put three pets to sleep, two within a week of each other, and it certainly takes it's toll. I swore no more pets, but a year later went out and got another puppy anyway. The joy they give us helps us to bear the pain when their time on earth comes to an end. I made a photo album of all our pets throughout the years, and my kids enjoy looking through it and reminiscing.

Hugs to you and your family. I know what you are going through. We had to make the decision 6 years ago it was tough, but it was the best for Remington our dog we had for 10 years. I think it's a great idea about the dog tags and build a bear.
