Well, she's not a puppy anymore, except in my heart. She was 13 years old. We've had her about 12 and a half years, ever since we adopted her from the pound. She was a beautiful mixed breed, part lab and all love. She was just the sweetest dog.

I knew she was getting sicker, but last night she just went really downhill, really fast. She was obviously in a lot of pain and I stayed up with her all night so she wouldn't be alone.

This morning we took her to the vet. She helped us realize that it was the right thing to do, but I miss her so much already. Right now, she'd normally be sitting at my feet while I'm at the computer.

Thanks for listening. I'm a wreck and I need to pull myself together before my kids get home from school.

I was also wondering if I e-mailed a picture of my dog to someone, could they help me put the picture in my signature?

Oh, also I wanted to get your opinions on this -- I was thinking of taking Spiffy's dog tags with me to Build A Bear workshop and having them put inside a dog the kids and I will make together. That way they can cuddle it when they miss her. Do you think that's weird or morbid?

And finally is there anywhere that wants donations of pet supplies? We just bought her and expensive new bed because she couldn't get up on the couch anymore, plus I have tons of treats because I was trying to get her to eat.

{{{{HUGS}}}} So sorry for your loss.

It's not an easy decision but it was the right decision.

Maybe your local animal shelter would like the donations?

I'm so sorry Sharon.
:( :( :( :(

I don't think the tag idea is weird at all. I have Toby's collar and tags inside my China Cabinet with his picture.

in knowing that your "baby" isn't suffering anymore..I hope that you have lots of memories to hold onto..and know that your friends are all saying a prayer for your puppy now in heaven..God Bless!!

I'm so sorry Sharon. I think the Build a Bear idea is wonderful and thoughtful.

{{{hugs}}}

Sorry to hear that! It has been a rough winter here too. We had to put our "puppy" to sleep she was a 16 year old golden who was always at my side through thick and thin and I mean thick! She wouldn't leave me while I was on bedrest with my triplet pregnancy and then watched over those kids as though they were her own. God doesn't give us better friends than that!
We also had to have our 16 year old cat put to sleep two weeks later! Tears!

That is why I need spring to come!

Your post brought tears to my eyes. :( As difficult as it is, you did make the right choice. Your puppy's suffering is now over. My mom has her dog's tags and picture on the china cabinet too. I don't think there is anything morbid about wanting to remember your puppy - whatever way you want. Here's a big {{{hug}}} for you.

{{{{Hugs}}}} I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.

I think your idea for the tags would be a real comfort to your children.

I'm so very sorry for your loss, Sharon. I think your teddy bear idea is precious. What a wonderful way to keep her memory alive for your children.

Do you have a local/county Humane Society or dog shelter? They are always looking for donations of supplies. There is also a non-profit rescue group that I donate to quite often, Rainbow Farms. Look them up on Yahoo. They rescue injured/special needs animals and they always need supplies.

I'll light a candle for Spiffy tonight....take care.

I'm so sorry about your baby, you must be hurting so bad right now. {{{HUGS}}} to you.

I am SO sorry to hear about your doggie. I will keep you in my thoughts and I know she's in heaven right now!

As for your donations of pet stuff, I don't know if another dog would want anything that may have the scent of another dog on it, but I could be wrong.

Things will get better...

:( I'm so sorry. It's so painful to say goodbye to our beloved pets. I think the Build a Bear idea is precious, too. It's not morbid at all. I keep my dog's ashes in a little brocade box on my dresser. Some may think that's weird, but I don't care - it gives me comfort. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss. :(

So sorry for your loss. :(

I'm sure almost any rescue group will take your supplies and be very happy for them

I'm sorry for your pain. I think the build a bear idea is a good one.
Hugs.

{{{{{hugs}}}}} to you. This ia a very real loss. Just know your fur baby isn't hurting now and had your loving touch until the very end.

Thanks for being a strong shoulder to cry on everyone. I feel a little better already and just in time for me to go pick up the kids.

TripleT, I'm so sorry for your losses. It just doesn't seem fair to lose both at once.

Thanks again for all your support.

Sharon, the build a bear idea is wonderful. My youngest gave me one for Christmas and she put "her" heart in it. :) I think it'll be perfect.

Any shelter or humane society would gladly take your donations. :)

{{{{hugs}}}}} I'm sorry for your loss.

((HUGS)) I am so sorry.:( It will take some time to get over. Pets are members of the family.
