I just got some disappointing news

I know it's silly, considering how many people have real things to worry about this year, but I just found out my book club and writer's group got cancelled.

Apparently they could no longer accomodate us at the library anymore and no one has room in their house to hold it.
I'm going to miss having such wonderful discussions with people about the books we read.

Can you arrange with a local restaurant to meet there every so often?

just be grateful you can read.....millions of Americans lack that very special gift..the gift of literacy.....

However, speaking as a literate American and a proud book club member, I'd be devastated..I think just going to the library would make me cry

Yes Bumbles, I know I am grateful to be able to read. That's why I volunteer tutor at the Literacy Center.

I am generally near tears when I go to the library. But that's because I'm thinking about all of the wonderful books I want that I don't have enough time to read them all.

We're going to try and get another place to meet. It just won't be the same, you know? Although it would be nice if we could meet maybe at B&N

How about contacting one of the schools in the area and asking if you could use their cafeteria or auditorium or something! Or even a local church that has a hall, or a firehouse that has a hall of somesort.

Thats too bad, hopefully you can find a new place, Im sure it would be worth the time to look around and find one, and then maybe you would even find more members that didn't originally know about your group! It could be a good thing afterall!

Several clubs and orgs around here also meet at, of all places, a couple of the local *banks*.

Hmm.. I haven't seen the inside of a bank in a long time

Yes, believe it or not, *banks*. I couldn't believe it either until my mom was a member of one of the clubs that met there.

It was one of the local banks rather than a huge chain, though, so that probably made a difference.

Other meeting places have been churches, community centers, and libraries, as has already been mentioned.

I've got a call into barnes and noble to see if they can accomodate us after the holidays.

If not, one of the book club members is a bank manager. Maybe that's something to look into.
