It was the coolest Chanukah gift ever!
Long story short, Jetta has been in pretty bad shape over the last year, but still runs, DH had a motorcycle accident and cycle was totalled. DH took that check and the PAL we got approved for today and purchased me a new vehicle that I've been waiting patiently on since last May. That's when the transmission started to go in the Jetta. 2nd and 4th gears work when they want to. So much wrong with the Jetta, we just figured not to repair most of it. I think we will work on the water pump problem since DH is driving that car now that he has no motorcycle.
I'm sad for him because he rode for 11 years, but this was his second accident in 1 1/2...and that was enough for me...neither were his fault. He worked over the whole week trying to find me the car I deserve. I just stayed quiet and let him do the work...DH has always been good at getting the dealers to drop the price down and getting me a good vehicle. The VW was a great car, but because of our lack to save for repairs knowing how expensive they get on foreign cars, it's about done. We've had it for 8 years and learned some valuable lessons.
I now own a Chevy and am quite happy. My parents owned a Chevy Impala for 20 years and the ONLY problem they had with that car was a leak in the trunk. My father was much better at having maintenance done on his cars though, a lesson once again I have learned on the Jetta. Our Jetta has the following problems: TRANSMISSION..GEARS ALL FUNKY, BLINKERS ONLY WORK WHEN OPERATED BY HAZARD CONTROL, GAS GAUGE DOESN'T MEASURE GAS CORRECTLY SO I HAVE TO GO BY MILEAGE, WATER PUMP EATING THROUGH ANTIFREEZE HAVE TO FILL IT UP EVERY 4-5 DAYS, 2 WINDOWS THAT DON'T ROLL DOWN..BOTH FRONT ONES, OIL LIGHT BLINKS ALL THE TIME, and I think that is it. Don't even ask about the cosmetics of the car...paneling coming off, light paneling gone on one side, duct tape on window to keep rain out of car since front window has play in it now..etc, etc. Pretty bad huh? DH has that car now and we still need to keep an eye on it.
Hard to believe I'm in a new car. I'm driving it like it isn't even mine. I'm having trouble with the gears, but thats because I've noticed foreign cars have longer shifts. I don't have electric windows anymore...didn't want them and I don't have a sunroof..didn't want that either, because for the longest time, mine in the Jetta leaked into the car...BADLY!
Wow...so when I said all I wanted for Chanukah was tickets to see Ben Vereen in February when he comes to our local college, I had no idea I would get 100 times better!!
DH worked hard to make this happen and I need to let him know how appreciative I am. Just wanted to share with my friends...I must go put antifreeze into the Jetta before DH heads out in the AM, don't want to ruin the block.
Later my friends!
