You could get the 7 or 11 adventure ticket book. The 7 adventure book was $4.95 for an adult and the 11 adventure book was $5.95. You could also get a General Admission ticket -- no rides -- for $3.75.
My family drove down from PA and stayed in a motel in the middle of orange groves 1/2 hour a way for something like $25.00 a night! I understand inflation and all, but it still sounds like a pretty affordable trip!
