Hi all! Well we did it! We just bought a 2003 Jayco 10X ~ it's a great starter tent trailer for us! We are so excited and can't wait to use it this weekend! We will stay local (southern Ontario) for a couple of years and go from there! Any advice you have is welcome! Thanks! Sandra

Drop by my web page (links below). It is full of pop up information, including a Fort Wilderness page.

Hope you have a great time with the pop up.

Congrats and welcom to the club. Check out Pop UP Times . It is a great resource and the forums are very helpfull.

Most of all, enjoy camping and the time with your family.

Al

Congrats on the new pop up. We had a Coleman for five years and loved it.

Let us know how your first trip goes.

Tip: Buys some big plastic storage bins to keep food, towels, etc. in. You can throw them in the car at night in case of rain or raccoons!

Congrats on the new camper! I can imagine you must be pretty excited now. Good idea to take a couple of close to home trips to kind of figure things out - there is a learning curve to this. I looked up your camper on the Jayco site - I think you will enjoy it. I like Jayco - we have a Kiwi and I am really impressed with the quality for the price. They are a family owned business and if you have any questions e-mail them - they will respond fairly quickly.

tim5055 does have an excellent site, especially for new pop up campers. Thanks for this service, Tim. I have been camping for most of my life, and in a camper of one sort or another for the last 20 years, and I have gone to tim's site several times for reference.

And finally, you will find no better campground than FW, as you may imagine from reading the many posts here. Our first trip to FW was in a Camplite pop up and we have many happy family memories of our camping trips, not only at FW but other campgrounds as well.

Welcome to the world of RVing!

have a Coleman pop-up and have been camping in it since 1996. You are going to enjoy it. I think it was one of the best things me we did. It sure beats sleeping on the floor. This December will be our first trip to FL. I'm so excited. We stayed in Fort Wilderness at the cabins and loved it. It's so nice to come home from the parks to the peace and quiet. We also use the Rubbermaid draws to keep utensils, plates, towels & spices. It feels so much better when you are a little organized. And it's easier to have two toiletee bags. One for the boys and one for the girls. This was everyone can shower at once. Don't forget those water shoes! Good luck and have fun, you will have so many great memories I'm sure. Gina

Thanks all! We bought the trailer from a dealer 2 hours drive from our home ~ the prices were way better there! My hubby will drive it home on Thursday and we will camp Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We'll be camping at a campground with a water park ~ it's about 45-60 minutes from home. DH is concerned about getting used to pulling the trailer. I love it already! S

You will love the pop up and camping at FW with it will be excellent! You will always know what your room will look like when traveling and you can stay twice as long for 1/2 the price or more. Our daughter says she would rather stay in the camper than in a hotel. Get a big piece of grass carpet to lay outside the door, it keeps most of the sand, dirty & gravel out. Have fun!

Actually, rather than fake grass, I recomend a Polypro woven mat. These are very light, fold up nicely and clean with just a shake.

I had the grass before and found it heavy and held water when camping in rain. Water just runs through the popypro mats.

Good luck

Welcome to the wonderful world of RV'ing!! Just remember that traveling with your own home just behind you ruins you for just about any other kind of vacation!!

It's also addictive in another way: we started with a popup (little tiny Starcraft Meteorite) about 3 years ago, then switched to a Keystone Outback 28' travel trailer (had to do with an autistic son who needs to know what space is going to be his) and on Friday, trade it all in for a 32' Chateau!! Disney here we come!!!

HI! We just had a great weekend in our new tent trailer! Thanks all! DH is having trouble backing it up. Any suggestions? Thanks S

Go to an empty parking lot and practice.

Do everything in slow motion, don't try to go fast.

Get the trailer and tow vehicle in a straight line, put your hand on the bottomof the steering wheel - now move your hand in the direction you want the trailer to go - it works.

These are the best three things anyone told me.

Good luck!

Well, those are the three things I remember.

The first one being: the hand on the bottom of the wheel tells you which direction the back of the trailer will go. Whatever the trailer.

What fun!! We are going to pickup our new RV on Thursday. Unfortunately, we're not going to Disney in it until January.
