Yeah we just got off the Magic and it does look shopworn in places.
Regarding the retrofit of LNG: nothing is truly impossible if you throw enough money at it, but...yeah... it's impossible. The retrofit required would need new generators, new fuel distribution and control systems, new fuel storage tanks and even more. Fire suppression is done completely differently for LNG vs. diesel. I served on a Cruiser that we took into the yard, put her on blocks and literally took the hull off. That yard period took 13 months. We didn't even change out interior systems. Never say never, but I'm saying never.
Thanks for this info. I'm a bit puzzled though by the need for new generators as a result of a retrofit. I wouldn't think the generators would care about what fuel drives the motor that spins them to create electricity. Or is this a case of, while we have the ship open anyway we may as well replace the generators?
It's not the fuel, per se, but rather the speed at which the prime mover is rotating. I suppose, in an academic way, that it's possible that the prime mover switch out from diesel to LNG would still spin at the same rate, but probably not. The flash controller for the generator is a regulator and in turn connected to the governor for the prime mover. I've been to sea with both steam turbines and gas turbines as the prime mover and they had radically different generator boxes
OK, so now I'd have to climb up and down 2 flights of stairs at the front of the ship, what about the back of the ship? On the deck plans it looks like the promenade deck ends at Worlds of Marvel. Do I just turn around and go all the way back around (just the sides and front of ship)?
You basically can only walk along the side on deck 4. Nothing is connected. Outside part of 4 doesn’t connect to front of ship or back or opposite side. The front isn’t open on deck 6 in the evening. It’s basically the same design as the Wish other than the piano bar has a pass through bar that opens to grand hall and the server stations are further back from the stage in Coco versus Arendelle.
You can cut through the inside if you really want to walk a loop. But yeah, it is not designed to be a continuous jogging loop. Then again, as someone who very much enjoyed this view from the Treasure pulling into St. Thomas front he front of the ship this morning compared to the early morning “view” on the Fantasy of sweaty joggers running in circles while I am trying to relax and watch the ocean, I’d say it’s a good thing they have different ships with different features to fit different preferences.
That would be quite different from the Wish. I was just on the Wish two weeks ago and I walked from one side of deck 4, up to 5, then 6, stood at the front for a while, then walked down the other side. It was all connected.
It’s the same on the Treasure as the wish. It sounds like maybe they went when the front part was closed due to high winds. We went in the evening and watched the sunset so it is definitely more a weather thing than a time of day thing whether it is open or not.
