I hope I tipped enough, was I cheap?

I got a pedicure today for $23. I tipped $3.50, 15%. What that too little or a sufficient amount?

I would not have tipped less than $5, most likely would have tipped more. If the pedicure was a groupon, or other discounted price - I would definitely have tipped more.

My current pedicure is $50 - and I tip $10.

I always tip five or more depending on the quality. I take that back.....one time I tipped 3 because she zipped through it in 20 minutes. Other than that I tip 5 or more. :)

I am just jealous with all of you and your pedi's that only cost $25 or less!

The basic pedis here are $23. No type of coupon of sort. $5 or more would equal a 22% plus tip. Thats too much in my opinion. I guess I am wanting to make sure that 15% is enough. I know 18% for waiters, so I was wanting to make sure I was'nt tipping too low.

.

I tip 5.00 for a pedicure that is 20.00- I would not tip less than 5.00.

I tipped 2$ for dd8 and 5$ for mine today. I only did 5 cause dd1 was not interested in sitting still n wanted to splash in the "bath".

Most salons split 50% with employees. So 15$ a piece already for 20 min seems like a lot. I tip 2-3$ usually. But I also do not tip 15$ on a 100$ bill at CP .. So I may be a bad peep to ask.

When you say 'Most salons split 50% with employees' do you mean they split the price of the pedicure? I am a hairstylist in NYC and that is far from the truth here. Most often if the employee gets paid based on % it's much less then 50. There are also times employees have to purchase their own materials/supplies and that adds up as well.

I also tip no less then $5 and a basic pedicure where I go is $17.

I tip a minimum of 20% for pedicures. If that works out to be less than $5 then so be it. But a pedicure here is $25 so $5 is usually what they get.

I can't see doing less than 20%. But for myself I can't see paying more than that. I NEVER (and can honestly say never) go in without washing my feet and shaving my legs. However I can absolutely say that is not the same for everyone and these poor people have worked on some disgusting people while I was in the chair. My hope is that those people are giving them more than 20%.

I looked at a tipping guide on CNN Money and it had 15 percent for a nail tech. So I suppose I did ok.

Everyone on here has said they would have done at least $5. If you're not going to consider people's responses, why open a thread? It's also about the amount of time and type of work, not just the percentage. The woman is sitting there working on people's feet all day. Not exactly a pleasant job. Sometimes it's just nice to be a little more generous.

So I have to ask... what would you tip on a $100 bill?

My salon specifically tells us not to shave beforehand because it makes your skin too sensitive for the sugar scrub he does on the shins/calves.

People have choices for their careers, so the "poor person who has to scrub feet" thing just doesn't hold up for me. Just because it isn't my career of choice doesn't make it something that I am sitting around pittying people for having to do. They get paid an hourly wage on top of that tip so it isn't like the tip is their only income.

Another who wouldn't tip less than $5 for a pedi., but in general I never tip less than 20%. I tip more if they do a design(which often my daughter has done). I also never tip change only whole dollar amounts. I just round up. So in your instance 20% would have been $4.60 so I would have tipped $5

Ok, I can see your point in that way.:thumbsup2 I was just trying to determine it on the actual "number" percentage. I will give them a $5 bill from now own, and I think a $5 bill will be sufficient as well even if I get a extra $5 design on my big toe too.

But this has my interest up. Our basic pedis are around $23, with a design on the big toe around $28. I think if you have it on all toes it may be around an extra $8. What is everyone else paying around the country. I'm in the Chattanooga area. They also showed me a menu with a deluxe pedi on it for $35, but I did'nt have time for it, but I do want to try it next. It had extra time and scrubs and such with it.

When I read 50/50 i thought no way. My friend is an experienced nail tech and she doesn't get near 50/50 and also buys supplies. $5 and even $10 is the most common tip.
