I am so sad and disappointed! I was planning a trip from June 9th - 13th with just my 10 yr old son. It has been a tough year for him - we moved, a new baby etc etc. I always wanted to take each of my kids to WDW for a "Mom and Me" trip - and I was starting this yr, with my second son in two years.

Now, we just found out that his orientaion to Middle School (5th grade next year) is on Monday 6/13. They are each matched up with a "buddy" to show them the ropes etc. My son has a hard time dealing with change, so this day is VERY important to him. I know deep down inside, it is so much more important than our little trip, but at the same time I am being selfish saying "but I have planned this so perfectly!"

I got the time off of work, I got a phenomenal rate for the flights and POR - knowing that I will never be able to duplicate that. All my PS have been made, as well as my itinerary.....I even bought our starter pins to trade!

My husband, who was against this trip from the beginning, is just gloating... "see I told you it wouldnt work".....
I knew you guys would understand my pain

Is it possible to cut your trip short? Return home late on the 12th? It may cost a bit more if you are flying, but you could still have a special trip with your son.

That's awful! We moved over the summer and my high school sons attended the orientation for the school. It was the first time a school had bothered to organize this, and it made such a difference in their adjustment! They love their new school! Even if you're going to have to reschedule the trip, you'll be glad you did. We're also cancelling our December trip, since my DH was laid off, so I know how you feel. Can you pick a time to reschedule? It'll cheer you up if you can start planning that trip soon! :grouphug:

I am so sorry for you. I had to cancel my trip recently b/c my DH broke his ankle. Very disappointing, but we are going to reschedule for October. Did you get trip insurance? If so, I say reschedule if at all possible. Good luck! :flower3:

I second this idea! Sounds like a great plan to me! :flower:

I was thinking the same thing.

Just change the departure date to the 12th! Maybe it would cost you an extra $100 to change the flight--but you would be saving $$$ on the hotel room that you won't be using the night of the 12th!

Try to change your flight!!!!!! If you can't change it, or the change fee is astronomical, then look at it as you aren't meant to go. I am a firm believer in things happen for a reason.

Heck, if you aren't able to go now, maybe you will get a $50 rate at the GF for the new reservation! :goodvibes (I wish too!)

Hope things work out, but I would try to fly home late on the 12th!

I can understand your pain very well. My DD is in dire need to go to summer school which starts the week after she gets out of school. It is so bad that her teacher is calling my DW and practically begging us to put her in there. The problem with that is we have a trip planned (since February) to WDW for the week of June 18-25. My DD is very non-chalant about the whole thing saying that she has already been to WDW and she really needs to go to the summer school. I am a very upset by all of this as well because this was supposed to be her birthday present (June 2nd). The school system is saying that if she agrees to go she has to commit to all 6 weeks which means that she can't go to Disney with us. Also, did I mention that June 19th is Father's Day? I would be miserable without one of my kids on that day. So yes, I understand your pain. My suggestion is the same as the others either try to cut the trip a day or two short or even go a couple of days earlier if possible.

What about seeing if your son could do his buddy day on a different day. Nice comment from your husband. :confused3

Sorry, I also don't understand why your husband would be against the trip and would "gloat" when you and your son are facing a potentially big disappointment. :sad2:
I would definately just shift the trip by a day...esp. after your son has had a rough year. :goodvibes

Good for her! Seems like she has her priorities in order! I wish more kiddos held her same line of interest in education. I would be very proud if I were you! :flower:

Sorry that your husband brole his ankle but I don't understand why you had to cancelle the trip. I went 4 days after I was released from the hospital after having my shattered leg and ankle put together with pins and screws. Sure I was in a wheelchair but I had a blast. Took my mind off the dumb leg.

I would try to schedule the departure a day early so you get to go.
I hope that works for you... :goodvibes

Would it be possible for you to talk to the middle school to see if they have any alternate dates for the orientation? My son had to miss his orientation to middle school and the school was great about arranging a different one for him. We had the whole school to ourselves, so it was pretty great!

Because we were going in June, DH is not used to the humidity, it will be around the time that DH will get his cast off, and the doc advised us not to go. I was not willing for DH to be miserable no matter how badly the rest of us wanted to go. By postponing the trip, everyone can enjoy themselves. Glad it worked out for you though..........that is definitely commitment to WDW.
