I have tiny, sore bumps

around my mouth and right above my chin. You can't really see them well, but I can feel them. They hurt - almost like a sunburn.

Does anyone know what it could be? I had a hot dog and mustard for lunch - could it have anything to do with that?

Have you ever had a cold sore before, or a fever blister? You feel them first, before you see them. Sometimes, it's a group of little blisters in one area. I wouldn't think it would have anything to do with the lunch you had....my guess is, fever blister.

I've never had a fever blister.

These are so widespread - all over the sides of my mouth and top of my chin that I really don't think it's a fever blister.

Did you eat anything acidic? I know someone who ate a tomato and broke out in cold sores all over her mouth. She had eaten them plenty of times before and never had that happen.

Just the mustard. But now that you say that, I remember my mom telling me that when she ate oranges or pineapples hers did something like this. Hmmm.

I was going to say it sounded like a possible food allergy. Are you having other symptoms (shortness of breath, swelling)?

Nope. Nothing else. I think they possibly itched at first, because when I scratched my chin is when I noticed the bumps.

It's not where they usually start out, but it sounds like shingles to me.

I used to have similar symptoms and found out I was allergic to tartar control toothpaste. Apparently it's very abrasive and sloughs off the lining of the mouth and lips, and then small bumps start appearing. The dermatologist told me years ago that 5% of the population is allergic to it.

Hey izzy :wave2:! I am allergic to toothpaste too. It started happening about 3 years ago. Up until then I was a tartar control Arm and Hammer user. I had to go with an organic Pelu toothpaste at $6 per tube.

My rash was along one side of my mouth and bottom of my lower lip.

That sounds like mine, except it goes a little bit lower onto my chin. I haven't brushed my teeth since this morning, though.

It sounds like hives due to a food allergy. If that's what it is, expect it to possibly get worse, and even itchy before it goes away. Take a benadryl, if you can, then another before bed, and see if it helps.
I went my whole life eating mangoes, then boom, I'm 23, eat a mango and I got what you are describing. My tongue was itchy too, though.

My rash became a full time thing and I'm a once a day brusher. The rash was a little scaly and and yup, it would go down about 1/2 inch from my lip. Sorry if that was TMI. It did clear up within about a week of changing toothpastes. FWIW, I am still allergic to some of the standard organic Tom's toothpastes ... I use a black licorice flavored one now.

Have you had that hot dog before? Sometimes different hotdogs can cause a reaction. Foot long from the guy on the corner, or some home cooking? Different mustard? Could be more acidic. What about sauerkraut??

No, I didn't have any sauerkraut, unfortunately. Love the stuff. Everything was the same brand I always use. I fixed it myself. I did have wheat cereal for breakfast and I am allergic to yeast, but I've never noticed a reaction like that before.

Had you eaten a mango in the previous 12-24 hours, and touched the mango skin to your face? A few weeks ago I ate a mango, and instead of peeling it, I sliced it with the skin on and then ate it off the skin. That night I had what you are describing. It started out feeling like really chapped lips, but then the bumps appeared and it looked really weird! It took at least 4 days to fully go away, too. I'll never do that again!!! The dermatologist said that I can still eat mango, but stay away from the skin--it is related to poison ivy (or oak?)

Nope. I haven't had a mango in years.

Whatever it was it sounds like it was some kind of allergic reaction. I'm just wondering why now when I've had these things before? Of course I guess it could be a delayed reaction from the wheat cereal - I hadn't had that in a long time.

If it hurts when you touch them...
I advise you not to touch them.
