I am in total shock right now. We are DVC members and get to the world about 2 times a year for shorter trips now as our kids are 16, 12 and 9 and have a harder time missing school and are very involved in sports and activities so it is hard to get away. My husband and I have done a few trips with just the two of us but realize that it will be a while before we can do that again as my parents are older now and it is hard for them to change their schedules to watch the children. Well... we are going to Disney the first week of November to celebrate our DD12's 13th birthday and she is bringing her best friend and we are meeting friends there so it is going to be a very busy week.
Well...a few weeks ago I was saying to my husband as we went for a walk that I wish we lived closer to Disney. I would love to be able to just take my AP and go for my walk there, or just casually walk around and take pictures, or just sit on a park bench and watch people for a while. Or schedule is always busy and full when we go and it would really be nice to live close enough to be able to do that.
Well....last night he gave me a card that says next week he has me booked on a flight and has three nights book at the Beach Club (my favorite) so I can just get away for a few days and walk and take pictures and people watch. And he will work from home so he can take care of the kids.
I am still in shock and very excited and a little nervous about a solo trip. Can anyone that has taken a solo trip give any advice? Thank you and I am going to go jump up and down some more!!!!!

AWWW, how thoughtful and sweet of your husband to do this for you? Enjoy your solo trip!

Thats great! This is from the husband's view, since I am one, but I've done solo trips the last 3 out of 4 years. Every trip you take to Disney is different because of the people you're with and the progression of the ages of your kids.

My solo stays have been offsite, since when I'm by myself I really only need a decent bed to sleep on. You get up when you want, go where you want, see what you want, ride what you want and quit when you want. No other input. I've found touring WDW by myself a very enjoyable experience, although different. I've been known to hit the solo line at Test Track five times in a row, or just park myself on a bench in the World Showcase and relax for a half hour, something I'd never be able to do with the family in tow. I've tied my trips to baseball spring training, so I go and watch at least a couple of spring training games, with at least one at Disney WWS.

Some go ahead and have table service ADR's when solo. I prefer not to do that, but generally just do counter service. But thats just my preference; feel free to make reservations if you like.

It is a different experience and there's times when you'll wish your family could be there, but its still a blast!

That is so sweet!!

I have gone to WDW by myself a number of times, but I'm always meeting friends down there. I have taken time alone during family trips to just wander solo tho. Sometimes my guys want to just sleep in & hang out and I want to go.

My favorite Parks for solo time are Epcot & AK. But those are my two favorites anyways.

Enjoy your solo time. I hope you have a very relaxing & rejuvenating trip!

That is sooo sweet! It would be a cold day in heck my husband would do anything like that for me (or anything at all period even on holidays :sad1: )

How Sweet! Hope you have a good time! I would definitely eat at some good restaurants and I would take time to talk to CMs and pick their brains for best spots to take pics and any other info that might be helpful. I would get lots of pics with character too! Have fun!

I know exactly what you mean because I feel that I have the best husband in the world. Last year we got told I had breast cancer. Well my world felt like it fell apart. On my first day of chemo which was at the end of July my husband told me that the whenever I want he is sending me and my daughter to disney that fall ( I have always want to go to disney for the Halloween party and New Year's Eve) Well in the middle of chemo treatments we booked my trip and my best friend and her daughter (my daughters best friend)were coming with us. I had an amazing time. Well last week I had surgery to remove my port because I no longer need it. I'm cancer free!!!!! yeah!!!! well my husband booked me and my daughter a trip (surpriseing me again) with a trip to disney for this New Year's Eve. My friend and her family will also be there. My husband is not coming and I sooooo want him to be there but my oldest daughter had a baby and he is staying home to babysit him so I can go....We have to cherish these wonderful husbands!!!!!!

What a nice guy! :thumbsup2 You're a lucky woman.

Of course, if he really loved you, he would have booked you into the Contemporary tower... ;)

Just kidding, of course!

My favorite solo experience was at the Wilderness Lodge having a drink at the bar when I happened to overhear the bartender talking about some of his commissions. I asked him, "Since when do bartenders work on commission?" He replied that he was really a graphic artist trying to get on the art staff, and was working the bar only to get a foot in the door. Then he pulled out an index card case full of photos of the many murals and portraits he had painted, and been paid for, in the Orlando area...

So I'd agree with previous posters that talking to the CMs will get you unique insights you might otherwise never have.

awww how sweet of him:) Have a awesome first solo trip, u'll have to tell us ur experience when u come back:)

Congratulations! You do have a very thoughtful husband:).

II have the best husband in the world!!!

Wait just a minute.
I thought that I was the best husband in the world!

TheRustyScupperRomanceAgenda:

1) A leisurely afternoon at the GF High Tea.
2) People-watching at Fort Wilderness from the porch, while her moving rocking chair with your foot.
3) Enjoying a drink while sitting in the garden behind the England exhibit in EPCOT.
4) Any of the boat rides after dark.
5) Relaxing in the hot tub. (Libations optional)
6) Jazz at Scat Cat lounge at PO French Quarter.
7) Evening drinks in Grand Floridian lobby with the string quartet.
8) Disney Florist deliver flowers to your restaurant.
9) Hire pixies to come with a gift.
10) Dinner at "Victoria & Alberts".
11) Matre'd bring a pre-arranged birthday cake.
12) Tip servers to sing Happy Birthday or Happy Wedding.
13) Have Mickey/Minnie deliver flowers/glass-slipper.
14) Rent a pontoon lake cruise with food.
15) Have airport limo put bouquet of her favorite flowers in the car.
16) Pull a glass slipper from your suitcase while in car.
17) Reserve a 1-hr private (joint) spa treatment and massage at the Grand Floridian.
18) While she watches TV after a busy day, draw her a warm bubble bath, and put her favorite perfume into the water. After she goes in, put rose petals on the bed for after her bath. As an option, bring champagne and fluted glasses into bathroom.
19) For only a SLIGHT fee, walk around the grounds of a deluxe resort, and arrange to have dinner waiting at a table on the path.
20) Send your wife flowers on no special day with a note "Happy Unbirthday to You". Send it to her work and her co-workers get jealous.
21) Write a note saying something like "Love You and Love You Near". Fold it roughly and put in her underwear drawer for when she gets dressed.
22) When you get back after walking the parks sit her on the bed, slowly take off her shoes, and rub her feet. (A definite killer!)
23) When tasting the wine, place her finger in the glass and taste the wine from her finger. This also blows the Wine Steward's mind.
24) As she is getting dressed (not undressing), sit on the bed and ask her if it is OK for you to watch, because she still turns you on, even GETTING dressed.
25) If she wears glasses, take them and PUT THEM ON her. This also gives you a chance to caress her cheeks as you look into her eyes.
26) Instead of sitting across from her at the restaurant, surprise her and suddenly sit next to her, and then play "kneezies".
27) Dinner at Bistro and Shula's.
28) Lastly, write her a poem. Style doesn't count. In this case, the THOUGHT is really the important thing.

I'm going to move this over to our happy dance board. Enjoy your solo trip!
