but honestly they seem kinda um.................. ugly. I'm seriously not trying to offend anyone, but I was just wondering if there are any other comfortable sandal kind of shoes that I could wear while at WDW. I am NOT a tennis shoe kind of person and I'm not looking forward to having to wear mine (reserved for winter time only) for 6 FULL days!!!! But I also know that there is no way that I could get away with wearing the sandals I have for all that walking in the parks. TIA!!!!

Birkenstocks are the best shoe for support IMO. They can be a bit more pricey, but they are worth the support needed for a lot of walking. I love mine, have tons of them and they are great!!! They come in lots of cute colors and styles.

Crocs Niles aren't bad...haven't walked around in them all day, but they seem comfy enough and they aren't as ugly as the originals. Crocs also makes a flip flop, the Athens. I personally think they are the most uncomfortable things I've ever put on my feet. They need to be broken in and they are just really stiff...at least mine were. Hated them. They are also pretty expensive for shoes that wear out fairly fast. If the tread gets worn those shoes become very slippery! Thhis seems to be the case for all crocs. Their website even warns about worn out tread.

Birks rarely need to be broken in...(I don't wear the thong styles though as those toe posts can cause blisters!) They are comfy out of the box and my back and hips aren't screaming at the end of the day as they do in other sandals. (I'm only 26 and I am fairly petite and I still have a hard time after bad shoes and a lot of walking)

Tevas can be good, but I've found that after a long day in the Teva mush flip flops I am in a lot of pain.

birks birks BIRKS!!! :cheer2:

I agree with you that crocs are ugly! I would maybe wear them out in the garden, but not out in public.

Anyways - might I suggest two types of sandals, however both of them are quite expensive, but they are well worth it. The first being Chacos. I've had mine for over 2 years and haven't regretted getting them once. They are stappy, sort of like Teva's but are a little bit better in terms of support. The other is Keen Newports - I recently purchased these and they are extremely comfortable. (You can get the at Nordstrom right now for $65 as opposed to $95). I work at a hospital and they are becoming very popular among the doctors and nursing staff, because of their comfort when standing all day.

I agree with you on the crocs. They are cute on my 3 year old, but on me they look like clown shoes! (To be fair I haven't tried the flip flops). I do love my Born sandles. They are so comfy and cushy inside I can wear them for hours. You can find them online or in lots of stores. I also have a pair of Privo shoes. They are kindof a cross between Tennis shoes and sandles. Also very comfy. I did a quick google search and couldn't find a website, but there are lots of stores out there that sell them. Happy Walking! :)

I agree. They are the ugliest shoes I've ever seen. But it's smart to choose comfort over fashion when you're walking 10 miles per day, so I completely understand why people wear them. I find that socks and my already broken in running sneakers work best for me.

They can be as ugly as they want to be, but if my feet dont hurt after a day walking 10 miles around Disney then they are so worth it. I am actually at the age that I choose comfort over fashion..(I do agree, they are ugly)

I actually have tried on every knockoff pair around and I ended up with a pair from Kohls. They feel marvelous. They felt better on my feet than the original crocs. DD and I wore them on our trip to Mexico 3 weeks ago and it was so nice to not have blisters. We will be wearing them on our trip to Disney in September..

Sorry I am a Croc hater--Kudos to those that like them. I have tried on every style, different sizes and I do not get it.

I can wear an ugly shoe to an amusement park--I just don't find the Crocs as comfortable as others do. They feel too thin with no arch to me. Plus I cannot find the right size. Either too big or too small.

I love my ugly Mion Current--expensive, but I had super comfy tootsies this past June after 5 long days in a row of amusement parks.

I paid $80 dollars for them. So doing a CBA, my feet were worth the $16 a day that I used the shoes hard. I will use them my next trip, and I will run to the grocery store in them--but not anywhere else :)

I practically live in these. http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7156782.html
They have the great support of the teva with the good sole (not the flip flop sole!) but the styling of the upper body of the sandal isn't sporty.

I purchased a pair of light pink crocs for our May trip to WDW and I was very happy with them. I have worn them all summer! I agree they do look al little like clown shoes, especially if you have big feet like I do.

However, I made the mistake of wearing regular sandles earlier this week when I took my dd to the zoo. We walked so much and my feet and back were hurting like crazy at the end of the day! We go to the zoo every week and I always wear my crocs... and my feet never hurt! So I learned my lesson. I would rather be comfortable than look cute. Who cares what other people think about what you wear on your feet? Even my dh wears his proudly when he is not at work and loves them.

I have read so much about crocs too. I thought I was the only one who thought they were to ugly to wear. I admit out of courosity I tried on a pair of off brand crocs @ famous footwear or something. They were comfier that I thought, but cant get past the looks. I have never had foot problems, I wear regualar 2.00 flip flops from wally world to the parks all day, and my feet never hurt. But maybe I'll get some crocs for camping after the last campout we all had blisters on our feet for being wet all weekend. the group we are (boyscout/girlscout)in wont let us wear open toed shoes. We'll see if I can get past the looks

Yup - they're ugly alright! And, while I've never been a real fashion maven, I wholeheartedly resisted them for a long time.

Now, I'll never give them up!!! CROCS rock! They're worth the ugly!

I have plantar fasciatis (sp?) and I survived a 10 day WDW trip wearing them. Never had any p.f. problems with all the walking we did there. Compared to how my feet hurt (not ached - actually HURT) before (wearing Birks, High $ walking shoes etc) my feet hardly hurt at all. It was more of a tired ache at the end of the day. It wasn't in the same ballpark...no, not even in the same country LOL... No comparison. Crocs made the trip SO much more pleasant for me.

Added bonus - after getting off Kali River Rapids, I didn't have to walk around the rest of the day in soggy shoes (or worry about keeping my feet dry on the ride). And the day it rained, we just kept going. My sister in laws shoes were ruined. DH and I, wearing our Crocs, had no problems. They also have good traction - as long as you still have good tread on them.

ETA -

I'd be far more likely to gawk and laugh at people wearing shoes like these (from badshoe.com)

Than to snicker at anyone wearing ugly Crocs!
It's a theme park people. You don't have to be fashionable! Comfort reigns supreme! :rotfl:

Let me tell you about my experience with crocs. I love them! I have constant feet pain and if I am required to walk a lot than by the end of the day I can hardly walk. Well this last 11 day trip to WDW I took my crocs not really expecting to wear them since, like you say, they aren't that attractive. Well the first day I wore my tennis shoes and by the end of the day I could hardly walk. I cou;dn't even walk to the jacuzzi with my husband. So the second day I decided I would try the crocs even if they are ugly. I loved it. My feet didn't hurt at all. I wore them the rest of the week. I was totally able to have a great trip since my feet didn't hurt. Wear them and have a great time.

I ordered Crocs for me and dh. His sat here for over a month. I finally told him to try them out or I was selling them on Ebay. He hated them because they're ugly...however 2 days later he wouldn't wear anything else because they made his feet feel so good. I've always been a birkenstock freak...I'd wear them almost year-round, except when it snowed. However after wearing my Crocs I can't go back to my Birks...when I do my feet ache the next day! I'll have to wean my feet off of them this winter I guess-LOL! My kids have the Payless version and will only wear them and nothing else...we've had them since April and i can hardly believe that they are still the only shoes they want to wear!

OK, I think I am going to go at least try them on and see what I think. I work at an indoor waterpark/hotel and I have seen these shoes before (although I didn't know that they were Crocs until I saw the crocs site). My feet are the kind to start hurting after a while, and I really do dread wearing tennis shoes day after day. I just have another question. They look like they are "plastic" and I was wondering if they make your feet sweat.

We are leaving on the 6th of August for our WDW trip. Is it too late for a new pair of Crocs? Is there a breaking in period?

TIA, again :)

I love my crocs. Like I have said before they are comfortable as they are ugly! My first pair was in pink, they really stand out (not really a good thing :rotfl: ). I just got my second pair in dark brown (chocolate) either I'm just getting used to them or they really do look ok. They dont stand out, they kind of just look like leather clogs.

They must be some type of molded plastic materiel, but really soft to the touch. Kinda hard to describe. The copies I have seen around are not as "nice" feeling...I don't think they make your feet sweat, in fact they are really ventolated(??) on the top and sides. I wore them for 10 days at WDW in May and never had sore feet! I'm totally hooked! They were comfortable from day 1, so go for it, and give 'em a try! I don't think you'll regret it.

I've heard people say good things about the Payless Airwalks, so I broke down and tried a pair on. I did not think they were comfortable at all. Maybe it's just me, I don't know. I will probably end up taking the 2 pairs of sandals I've been wearing all summer. They've been super comfy so far, and the one pair is very similar to a pair I wore to WDW last year.
