when it comes to Global Warming. Someone fill me in please?

From what I understand, global warming started a while ago.
So why is everyone making such a fuss about it NOW?
And even if we did change our lifestyles now, would it make that much of a difference?

I told you I know nothing.
If someone could correct me/inform me,I'd appreciate it.

I'm sick of all the fuss of Global Warming.
I'm sick of doing projects on Global Warming.
I'm not worried about it.
Shelby had a pretty good explanation as to why it's not really not THAT big of a deal, but I can't explain it properly.. I might be able to search for it, but it's not likely there.

Global warming has been going on for a long time. However, since the industrial revolution the amount of co2 in the atmosphere has increased rapidly. We cannot undue what we have done BUT we can maintain what we have. So yes you CAN help global warming. PLEASE recycle. If you recycle a 12 oz can of soda....imagine filling up half that can with oil, that is how much oil you are saving when you recycle. Every little thing helps! If you have any more specific questions let me know....this is my thing.

ETA: I don't know if you have seen the series Planet Earth but they had a polar bear on there who had to swim for a long time because there was no ice inbetween where it was going to try and find food. It eventually found some seals but was too weak to fight them to get one of them to eat. It just laid down and died. So, global warming does not just affect humans, it is affecting animals and their ecosystems.

Yeah, I'm not THAT worried.
If everyone in the entire world changed their lifestyles to be more eco-friendly and reduce carbon emissions, yes, it would make a huge difference.
It wouldn't reverse damage, but it would halt any further damage.

However, realistically, everyone is not going to willingly change their lives for something thats total reprucussions will come far in the future, beyond their lifetime.

global warming is pretty much due to the increasing levels of co2 were releasing into the atmosphere....heres how much those levels are rising

this is because of the way that we burn off natural resorces...

everyone who doesnt believe global warming is real use one basic argument--that there cant be global warming because of the fact that throughout history, temperature fluctuations are natural. were just coming out of an ice age, of course the temperature is rising--thats correct, but very very wrong. its rising so high, its pretty much off the charts.

here are some FACTS that may help you a little:
-The number of Category 4 and 5 hurricanes has almost doubled in the last 30 years.
- Malaria has spread to higher altitudes in places like the Colombian Andes, 7,000 feet above sea level
-The flow of ice from glaciers in Greenland has more than doubled over the past decade
- At least 279 species of plants and animals are already responding to global warming, moving closer to the poles

consequences expected if we dont stop global warming:
-Deaths from global warming will double in just 25 years -- to 300,000 people a year
-Global sea levels could rise by more than 20 feet with the loss of shelf ice in Greenland and Antarctica, devastating coastal areas worldwide
-Heat waves will be more frequent and more intense
-Droughts and wildfires will occur more often
-The Arctic Ocean could be ice free in summer by 2050
-More than a million species worldwide could be driven to extinction by 2050

if you want to ignore that, then go right on ahead. i, however, will be trying to fix this...

Al Gore annoys the hell out of me. That movie was just propaganda.

Global warming is not a problem. It happened before humans were here, and it will continue long after we're dead. Its a simple concept, that we've just not really thought about until now.

The earth has seasons, like hemispheres have seasons. Ice ages=winter. Heat=summer. We've been slowly warming up since the last ice age. we're heading into summer now.

The industrial revolution sped up the process by 2-4 hundred years. yes, that is 2-4 hundred years off our adaptation time. Oh well. we'll survive. Its what we do. We adapt, we change, we survive. Its what makes us human.

We can not change what we did. We can not reverse it. We can stop everything heat and gas producing, at this point, but global warming will continue, though at a slightly slower rate.

Global warming will happen, and it will continue to get warmer until we hit global cooling, and I bet everyone will freak out at that one too.

For me, the most important thing is preserving our resources. We need to invest in alternative energy starting now. Recycling is very important. I guess people just have different views on this but it really makes me upset when I hear about all these animals whose homes are being affected because of melting sea ice, etc. 90% of the world's leading scientists believe that global warming is man made. That is enough for me to believe it is happening. Even if you don't, I think it is irresponsible as a human to think that we are the only beings on this earth that matter when it is simply not the case.

Eh. I don't really care. I think I'll keep on using my plastic shopping bags and not buy those re-usable ones. I think I'll keep having my lights turned on at all times of the day. I think I'll run the water while I brush my teeth. I do recycle though.

I honestly just don't care at this point in my life. I have a lovely scientific reason for this all, really I do, I've written it all out before on these boards. I just don't feel like thinking right now.

global warming recently became popular because this is about when well start to notice the physical changes of everything........ its been happening of A LOOOONG time now... but ever since everything became industrialized, it sped up.. and now the toll is coming in.. i mean, we can already feel it (on the east coast at least)... thered be a week of coldness, and a random day of warm for no reason.. than itll snow the next day or something... the summers are getting hotter and the winters are getting colder... the seasons are all shifting.. so i think thats why its coming to everyones attention now.. the physical effects are popping in.. and yea.. we cant reverse it.. its going to happen no matter what... the whole global warming movement now is to try to lessen the severity of its effect in the future.. not to prevent it

i'm not ridiculously worried about it, and i'm not going to go out and buy a hybrid car, or new applaiances or anything like that.
But I DO like the idea of reusable shoping bags, which we use in my famil.
And I LOVE that my community has starting using 'green bins'
But for me, that's more of a littler issue than global warming.
And I loved participating in Earth Hour last night and I think it's great that alot of conerts are starting to use less power & electricity, but again, that's not so much a global warming thing as it is just for the sake of conserving resources.

It's very true that in history we've had ice ages, and massive cool downs before.
The Earth is millions of years old, but that's not nearly old enough for us to know what's really going on.

My family has been using green boxes forever now! I don't know when they used to sell them, Loblaws (well the Superstore here) used to sell them and stopped. We used them for a long time because they're so convenient. And then all of a sudden the 'green bags' and 'green boxes' became popular again.
It's always fun to be in on the trend before it starts xD
