At first, I thought that one should carefully read an entire posting, weigh the pros and cons of all sides, and write a thoughtful reply to the topic as a whole.

I was WRONG!

What you do is scan a post, pick out a single sentence (or even a phrase), carry it to an illogical extreme, and ridicule the idea. You SHOULD stop just short of ridiculing the actual DIS member but this doesn't always happen either.

Rule #1, don't take anything personally. Rule #2, if your posts start to receive the above treatment, the worst thing you can do is try to defend them.

I know many on the CB avoid the DB at all costs. You might find it fun once you understand how it works. ;)

Recently I've been trying to participate in the debate board because I enjoy reading different opinions on various topics. I don't usually debate with people in real life and I thought it was kind of fun. But, I've decided that it's not my cup of tea. Some people pick fights just to pick fights and it doesn't really help the debate. The opinions of the regular posters are pretty well known, so where's the debate?

How many times can you say the same thing and find that you're still in the same spot 6 pages later?

Heres how the CB works. You have to agree with the OP and show sympathy no matter what. Every opinion must be cookie cutter perfect. If you don't play by the script you are an out cast!

No, I'm just kidding! Don't banish me!

Seriously, on the DB I try to always quote the whole post, so I don't miss the main idea. I don't want to edit anyones thoughts!:D

Peggy,

I hope I'm not one of "those" individuals you're talking about:confused: I enjoy the debate board because I don't get pixie dust thrown into my eyes all the time.:jester: Plus I get to flash my HEH membership card without ridicule. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

That's pretty much how it's worked for quite a while now, Peg. Especially rule #2.

Good, because I was about to pick one of your sentences, carry it to an illogical extreme, and ridicule your post/sentence. However, I don't think anyone could have stopped me ridiculing you. Well, maybe all the moderators.
:jester: ;)

I'm happy that you are a "member" of the DB. Now the important question ---- Are you a card carrying member of the HEH Club?

yep, you got it. i get sucked in and try to resist, but sometimes can't. :scared:

Uh-oh. I tried to dodge this in your earlier post so as not to appear ignorant. :o I can't avoid it now. What's the "HEH Club"?

I love the DB. But in order to like it, you do need to put on a pretty heavy suit of armor. Things can get pretty messy over there.;)

And after awhile, you get to know who the bullies are, and you just tune them out.;)

I think these two posts do an excellent job of summing up the Debate Board. ::yes::

Occasionally I venture into that territory but I usually don't stay too long. It's just too repetitious and mean-spirited for me.

I don't frequent the debate board, but EROS told me that the HEH club stood for the "Hang 'Em High" Club. As in supporting capital punishment.
