I haven't read all the posts on this thread ;) but I don't get what the big deal is. You get a tag you don't want? Go in the User CP and delete it. Big deal? :confused3

Obviously you did not read any other posts because if you did, you would see your comment has already been posted numerous times and has been explained ad nauseum.

People, if you feel you need to comment, READ THE POSTS BEFOREHAND!!

Oh dear. :sad2: My bad.

Dan, so sorry the playground bully is continuing to act like a 5 year old.

Back in the good ole days, this would have never happened. After 8 years of being a member here, I have cut down considerably on my posts because of child-like behavior (like this) of others.

Ok ;). But it appears that the unwanted tags do not stay deleted, but in some of the incidents keep re-appearing over and over and over again....the OP deletes it, the tag comes back. The OP deletes it *again*, the tag comes back. And so on. Maybe the DIS'er or DIS'ers who gave and have given the various tags to Mr. Murphy innocently thought they were bestowing a tiny bit of happiness upon a fellow DIS'er....

agnes!

Exactly. Because it's their board. They can do what they want.

Whether it's ethical or "nice" is really beside the point. They have every right to do as they please, and if he (or you or I) want to be here, you put up with it. If you don't want to put up with it, you leave. End of story.

But since about a year and a half ago, and with the prohibition of religion and politics more recently, this is supposed to be the "gentler, kinder" Dis. I don't see that happening in this instance.:confused3

I see an almost universal trend. If you have been around long enough (several years) to remember when the members were lower, you tended to get to know someone better. Therefore, you got to know Dan better and KNOW how nice and caring he is.
If you are newer, you do have the same experience we do. I agree with the statement that I have not seen so many of us old timers come out in support of someone.
My firsy DIS Meet was very overwhelming. I had just found the DIS and I came with my family. As I stared at this crowd feeling very awkward, it was Dan that came to my rescue and made us all feel so welcome. I was incredibly grateful. I have kept the baseball player and pin he gave us that day on ym desk for almost 10 years now. I could go on and on with specific examples of other kindness and caring he has showed me and my family over the years.

OK, sorry folks, carry on. And I do mean , carry on!

I do not think anyone is debating whether or not Dan is nice. I have been here a number of years. I do not know Dan. I have never met him in person nor spent any time on the DIS on any of his threads but all that being said....his first post on this thread came across very strong and he choose to use words that DIS BOARD members do not use in their threads/posts without being subjected to points.

I just feel with the number of posts Dan has and the number of years on the Dis Boards that Dan has....he could have handled this differently....w/o using the language he choose to use in his OP. JMHO.

I also have not had time to read all the posts, but I agree, simply have an undesirable tag deleted. No biggie.

I guess that's where "guidelines" can get confusing...when they appear to be applied indiscriminately. For example:

Deb in IA received a warning about using a word (ABCDE"___ explosion") that shows up in 20 pages (the maximum result, I think, from a search) of posts untouched by the mods:

http://www.disboards.com/search.php?searchid=7368446&pp=25&page=20

She used it on Dan's thread. Maybe it depends on where you use it? Maybe they just missed (at least) 481 uses of it before? :confused3 Isn't that where the filter comes into use? Doesn't the filter allow them to input that word so it doesn't show up? I would think that filters don't come with predetermined naughty words that can't be changed. I don't see how the use of that word is bypassing the word filter...it's not like it's a made up word (ie, putting an * somewhere within a word to bypass the filter)...it's commonly used, and if a mod/webmaster sees it being used and it's wrong to use it, just put it in the word filter, no? :confused3

Getting a warning for that, but not for damn or hell in the same sentence?

I haven't heard (or payed attention, I guess) to any of these issues before, so this has all kind of been an eye opener. :guilty:

Just responding to the bolded....It seems to me he HAS TRIED to handle this differently, but it continues to happen. How else CAN he handle it??? Unfortunately, there is no way for him to know WHO keeps giving him unwanted tags, so there is no way he can PM them to ask them to stop. (And it's pretty obvious to me that they KNOW he wants it stopped, but keep harassing him anyway.)

I'm not arguing with you or what you said there. But, do you really think if this is some kind of passive aggressive game that is being played, the person(s) responsible are going to stop now? They haven't stopped before. Seeing him get so out of sorts only fuels their fire, right? If it were me, I would just delete the tag and continue to delete the tag every single time, no matter how many times it took, without saying a word about it publically.

And, for the record, I don't have a dog in this fight. I don't know Dan murphy or anything about him. Just seems like common sense when it comes to dealing with a bullying situation.

There's nothing there when I click on the link

Or put something in his signature to ask the tag fairy to not spread her pixie dust amongst him.

I can't believe there is a thread about this. Are we two? You gotta be freaking kidding me that this has him this upset.

But of course, this is the DIS, let's overreact over simple stupid matters! :thumbsup2
