I've known Dan for a few years now. I've met and spent time with him at WDW. I can tell you that Dan is a really nice person. He is, however, a passionate person. If you wrong him or someone he cares about, he will stand up to them.

I remember one of his visits to WDW. My daughter and I met him at the MK. My daughter was just getting over a bad case of bronchitis. There was a guy walking along smoking. He wasn't even trying to find a smoking section. The smoke from his cigarette sent my daughter into a terrible coughing fit. Dan asked the guy to put out his cigarette. The guy refused and just smirked at Dan. Dan gave him an earful. I didn't blame him at all. He told the guy what I was thinking. When someone is hurting or needs help, Dan will be the first to offer support.

Obviously, I like Dan very much. We have talked about his days as a moderator on the DIS. Let's just say that his decision to step down from being a moderator did not come easily. He had very good reasons. Dan used to post a lot on the DIS. Now days, he posts very little. He is saddened, as are many, with some of the things that have happened over the past couple of years.

I don't blame Dan for reacting to this latest personal attack. I'm sure he was angry. I lay the blame with those that don't have enough respect to leave him alone. They know very well how he feels about the tag. That tag has a very special meaning to him. He doesn't need to explain the back story of his tag or his reasons for wanting it left alone to anyone. He just needs to receive common courtesy from those who control this board.

Well, after reading Dan's explanation, it is obvious that someone is harassing him. I thought if he deleted the tag and moved on, that would have taken care of it. Since he said that someone would keep changing it back after he deleted it, then it's obviously not an accident.

I would have been mad if that happened to me too. I'm just surprised that the owner of the board allows someone to keep doing that.

Which I assume is the reason that he chose to start a thread on this subject - basically to "call them out on it"..

I really don't get it though.. The tags that have been posted under his name in the past have been insulting; embarrassing; humiliating; sarcastic - all of the things that "posters" are not allowed to do without receiving points or being booted off permanently.. Why is it then okay for the "tag fairy"??

I haven't seen the tags, either. If they are, as people have said, not the usual tags, but insulting and rude, Dan should take a screen shot of it before changing it, so he can show the mods exactly what it was. If it's something that would earn a poster points or a banning for saying it in a thread, it ought to cost the tag fairy her job for putting it in someone's tag.

The Tag fairy is a mod. Why show a mod? Probably the only mod I'd ever go to would be MaryJo who is always respectful. In a case like this it reminds me of crooked cops or something--they're sitting there laughing, getting their kicks, not going to be helpful.

Unless I am mistaken (and I don't think I am), the tag fairy is a mod.

I would think so, too, but do all of them approve of harassing Dan? I would hope one of them would have the decency to put a stop to this. Of course, that assumes that whoever appoints the mods would also have the decency to put a stop to it.

Well, there are moderators and webmasters. A mod has very little power on the boards these days. Remember the "moderator team"?

I highly doubt that will happen. If you do a search and find the last thread on this subject (from July), you will see the webmaster's attitude toward Dan and his request. They were not very nice and what they said was worthy of receiving points if anyone else said it.

I also have met and spent some time with Dan and his wife Marie. They are both very nice, down to earth people. From what I have seen on the boards all he does is help others, and minds his own business not bothering anyone else. It is such as simple request, so for the life of me I don't understand why they insist on giving him a tag. Then to top it off a not too nice one. Didn't see the most recent one, but did see the ones in the past. Really sorry Dan that this continues to happen to you. You don't deserve it.

I understand not wanting one, if I got one I would promptly change mine back to my Lance quote, but there are so many people on these boards it is pretty had to remember when one or two specific ones don't want a tag.

I guess I'd just change it back and not worry about it. I've never seen an inappropriate tag and from what I can tell the majority of them are direct quotes or references to quotes.

But have you read through this thread? Dan has been around forever and used to be a moderator. Everyone who works here knows him well and they know how he feels. This is being done on purpose. It's harassment.

I did read the entire thread. I realize the OP had a tag added and removed many a time. However, I wouldn't expect the tag fairy to remember everyone who had a tag and removed it. They probably see something in his post that looks tag worthy then look at his tag area to see if he has one and he doesn't so they add it. Even if they did the same thing 100 times before they probably don't realize it.

Of course they may be doing it on purpose, I have no proof either way. I was just surprised when I opened the thread and saw the heated post about something so innocuous as a tag that can be changed. I have no opinion about the OP and have never in my life seen (or noticed) a post by him. He seems like a decent enough guy and all, but I am in charge of a couple of hundred users in my job (I.S. Coordinator) and I don't remember all of their preferences. I was just reacting as someone who had no idea he didn't want a tag even if he has stated so before. I'm sure if you post a poll on all the threads asking whether any particular poster out of the over quarter million here wants or doesn't want tags very few would remember which do and don't. This wasn't an attack on the OP nor do I have a tag agenda, I was just surprised anyone would think the mods would remember the specific wishes of anyone on these boards. That is all. No more and no less. Why all the hate?

As far as reading the threads I read them all unless I specifically state I didn't. Just because I don't agree with everyone else doesn't mean I didn't read the whole thing.

I work in a school. If a child keeps on doing something annoying to another child (particularly after it has been made plain that the attention is unwelcome), it eventually becomes bullying. When a tag is added, removed, the same tag put back, removed, the same tag put back, removed, and this continues repeatedly (as described in Dan's last post to this thread), it is NOT an accident. A child couldn't give that excuse in those circumstances, and an adult certainly cannot.

While I didn't personally care for the tone of the original post, I can certainly understand where Dan is coming from.

I think it's nice for you to give the TF the benefit of the doubt, but take it from us old-timer cougars: you are wrong.

ETA: Just take a look at the majority of the people posting on this page alone. How many times have you seen so many "join dates" in 1999, 2000 and 2001 on one page? We know of what we speak.
