I don't get this at all. It's so passive aggressive and it's clearly condoned by the management of the DIS, everyone knows Dan doesn't want a tag from the tag fairy. So why do they keep putting them on him?
I see threads galore filled with folks begging for tags and they are mostly overlooked but here is Dan, clearly stating over and over that he does't want a tag and they keep tagging him.
Sure it's an accident. I'm not that stupid.
I've never met Dan and I rarely, if ever, talk to him via pm. Doesn't matter, he's always been kind and helpful to people on the threads I've read. I don't know, or want to know, how he's incurred the ire of the DIS management. But the fact that he has cannot be in doubt and the posters that feel this could have been an accident just haven't watched this saga long enough.

I really think that the lack of respect is what gets me more than anything; not to mention, if someone is a tag fairy, I would have to assume it was someone with a lot of time and access on the DIS boards, who really *SHOULD* know that Dan would prefer not to be tagged. I mean really, I've known since my posts were in the early hundreds, and I'm not usually someone who remembers stuff like that It's not like 9874242 people have asked different things regarding tags; I would think someone who is allowed access of THAT type to these forums would be able to remember something as simple as "Dan Murphy doesn't want a tag". Unless they're just doing it to be rotten. Which seems to be the case.

Whether or not it's easy to change the tag is NOT the issue. It's lack of respect, plain and simple. I'm sorry, Dan.

I don't get why whoever is higher up than the Tag Fairy doesn't tell the TF to quit doing it. I haven't seen any of the offensive tags, so I have no idea how bad they are. If it's bullying, I don't get why it continues to go on. After all, this is a disney message board and you would think bullying wouldn't be tolerated by anyone.

I guess if someone kept doing that to me, I would just delete the tag and change it back. If the tags are done as a form of bullying, then it seems like the purpose would be to get a reaction. So, I wouldn't keep showing a reaction. JMO.

But this is the DIS...a select few are allowed to bully and berate people while others get banned for no reason.

Knowing him only from the podcast, I can't imagine he would ever spend one minute giving out tags. It would not be his thing.

It's two issues; sarcasm and harassment. They change it to something they know will upset him AND they change it to upset him because they know how he feels about it.

They do the tag knowing how he feels about it, then they sit back and laugh. It is certainly intentional. It's happened several times before and everyone who works for the DIS knows Dan and knows how he feels about this and so do many oldtimers.

I remember the day I met...oh never mind It was an eye opener though.

Read my tag. For this same reason. Perhaps Dan should put that in his tag, so that the "new" tag fairies get it.

If I recall in the past, Dan kept deleting the tag and they kept putting it back.

But, if you try to appeal to the Moderators to explain you find that they do not accept PMs so you can't.

See, now I have been around a while, but I would never had remembered that. Dan is not on my radar at all as a poster other than when I saw this thread I remembered his other one (but would have never made the connection based on his name alone). He and I must normally just be interesetd in different things so I do not have any association in my mind to go with him. I guess Ican imagine it is possible a tag fairy may be in the same boat. I do admit, not knowing the history, that it sounds like someone may be yanking his chain. If so the way to get that to stop is not to make a big fuss about it and post a rant with lots of on the edge of acceptable language about it.

Two years isn't necessarily a long time, relative to a lot of other people here. I've been here 10+. And trust me...the mods all know who he is.

True about the 2 years--but the poster I quoted, who said even she knew about this issue, joined in October 2008--well over a year after I did. I was just pointing out you could be here a while, and post a fair amount, and stil be clueless about this whole issue. Is every tag fairy and moderator someone who has been a member the entire time? I honestly do not know; it just seems to me that sometimes there must be newer people who take on that job (though this is the only online forum I go to, so I really do not know how these things work). Again, it looks like there could be more to the story, but it still seems possible, to me, that confusion would be invovled. More importantly, regardless of why it happened, this rant is not likely to help.

A thread like this will accomplish nothing except for possibly making people look at the original poster in a different way than they used to.

I've always heard that in order to make something change you have to complain to someone who can actually do something about it.

Grumbling to the DISboards at large will not get you the results that you want.

If he wanted to share that info with us, he probably would have left the tag on. It was evidently offensive enough for him to want it gone. why on Earth would he tell anyone what was said?
