is it worth upgrading? Has DreamWeaver changed much in the last couple versions?

I don't do much (yet) in web design.

What do you think?

Unless you qualify for a student/teacher version, I would say not to bother. I teach Dreamweaver and web design at the university level and I just had this chat with my students last week. While some of the functionality in the newer versions allows you do to advanced coding (javascripting) your average person has no need (or desire) for that.

The interface in the older versions is also pretty close to the newer version (I actually prefer the older versions).

If you are new to web design, I suggest taking advantage of the in-built tutorials in Dreamweaver -- that was how I taught myself the basics 15 years ago.

Thanks for your response. I was hoping not much had changed.

I had bought a Dummies book for DreamWeaver and the concept of CSS threw me.

Can I PM you with some other questions? I'd like to know more about web optimization for mobile devices, if you have any suggestions. Thanks.

I actually prefer CS3 (and earlier) to the later versions. CS4 and CS5 are not friendly to sites that are primarily HTML based... they default everything to CSS.

I'm assuming you have the 1976 version by Gary Wright and are looking to upgrade to the longer, 1992 version he re-did for the movie Wayne's World???

Sorry, saw the title of the thread and couldn't resist!

I've worked with DW since it was first introduced. I prefer the older versions (back when it was a Macromedia product) because it was faster loading and seemed simpler to use. I still use the UltraDev version and I have been designing now for over fifteen years (and I do it for a living).

Hope this helps!:surfweb:

Yeah, I think the version I have is from Macromedia. Guess I better keep it.

Thanks.

Next question, can DreamWeaver be used to optimize sites for mobile hand held devices?
