I have an eTicket question!

I had actually posted this in another thread, but I think it got lost!

Here's what I'm trying to figure out...

I have an iPod Touch, and I'm trying to figure out exactly what I can do while not connected to WiFi. We have WiFi at our house, but I want to know if I can use this app at all in the parks.

So, I can still see all the POI, and click on them to read menus, see the pictures, read reviews, and such even if not connected to WiFi, it just may not be the most up to date info? Is that right? I'm not really worried about using the GPS locating stuff inside WDW, since I'm pretty familiar with the parks now, and I think I can figure out where I am once there.

I also realize that I will not be able to use the DISboards if not connected.

I did read the one Disneyland eTicket review that said it was basically Google Earth attached to the DISboards, and I want to make sure I can do more than that if not connected to WiFi!

Yeah, I read that a few days ago.

I'm trying to find out specifically what is available offline.

The FAQ says "some limited use offline, such as the ability to edit and sort your Itinerary."

Is that the only thing you can do offline is work with your itinerary?

What I want to know is what will happen if I click on a POI while I'm offline. Will it still show me a menu for a restaurant? Show times? The picture for an attraction? Will I still be able to read the reviews, even though they may not be the most up-to-date reviews? I realize that the show times and such wouldn't be as up to date as possible, but would it still show them to me at all?

The reason I'm being cryptic about what may or may not be available offline is because it's a complex issue revolving around some technical issues and caching. We cache some things in the app to improve performance. Results will differ from user to user depending on what happens to be cached at that specific moment. So rather than say what will be available offline, let's go with what I know will not work offline.

Descriptions, reviews, the map, disboards, and DVC calc will not be available offline because we update those constantly and they are always live and up to date.

I'm surprised to hear that descriptions, reviews, and the map wouldn't be available offline. I understand they wouldn't be up-to-the-minute and you wouldn't be able to see your location on the map, but you're saying these features aren't available offline at all? If that's correct, I would implore you to add that functionality. It wouldn't be difficult, and I just don't see a good reason for that functionality to not be there.

I don't know about how hard it would be to add that functionality but I was also very much hoping to be able to see that sort of info on my Ipod Touch while in the park.

Someday perhaps they will open up wifi in the parks but until then. Any chance those functions might be added in the future?

Actually, it is VERY difficult and complex issue given the massive amount of data we're talking about and how often it's updated.
