In the spirit of the other thread, I have also lost it.

I was watching television with my daughter when my sister's name appeared on the tv screen. Our phone service is through Bright House. Thus, when we get a call, the name of the caller appears on the tv. The funny thing is that the phone didn't ring. I went over to the phone, but no one was there. So, I called my sister. I told her that I was sorry I didn't get to the phone in time, but it hadn't rung. She thought I was crazy, because she hadn't called me.

DD started laughing hysterically. What I failed to remember was that we were watching a tape. My sister had called during the time I was recording the show.

I've lost what little I have left of my mind!

LOL! You're not the only one!

When we first signed up with that service, I was watching Anne of Green Gables during a PBS telethon. During the telethon part, I noticed our friend Jim's name pop up at the top of the screen. I called to DH, "Hey, look! Jim must have just donated money to PBS and his name is on the TV screen!"

Meanwhile, I'm ignoring the ringing phone because -- well, heck! -- my friend Jim's name is on the tv screen for donating to PBS, and that's important - LOL!

When my DD finally answered the phone and handed it to me, I was so shocked that it was Jim! I yelled, "I just saw your name on tv!!!"

He replied, "Yeah, we have caller ID on TV now, too...." :rotfl:

This happens to me with the dvr a lot! I'll tape something then watch it a couple of days later and see a weather report...ANOTHER snow storm?? We just had one two days ago!

My husband doesn't even bother to point it out anymore. He figures I'll catch on eventually.

Awhile back, I was watching a show I'd taped and it come on with a tornado warning. It was a beautiful sunny day, yet I ran to the window. I guess I'm just not ready for technology! :goodvibes

Not quite the same, but I am sure I can make you feel less like a fool...

The other day I woke up and headed into my den. Turned the light on, sat down at the computer, and tried to get online. But I couldn't connect. So, I went over to check my router and the power light was red.

My first though... "Shoot! We must not have power!"

Note... the light was on, just red... my computer was on, the lights were on, my tv was on...

Yea...

LOL! I'm so glad I'm not the only one. :)

The worst for me was when I was watching TV and I told my kids that we would be having a snow day the next day. After we all jumped up and down and screamed and danced my husband reminded me that I was watching last week's Grey's Anatomy on DVR.
Major Bummer.

I got a call from a girlfriend. Her mom married my uncle (which was strange in itself, since we had no part of introducing them). Her mom and my mom tshared the same first name, and now shared the same last name. but her mom went by her middle name, so I forgot all about it.

She called me from her mom's one day and the phone was in her mom's legal name, and there it was, almost 20 years since my mom passed..her name was on my TV. No one in the room moved for the first 6 rings..then we all stared at each other. I nervously picked up the phone, and once my friend started talking, I 'got' it. It was very weird.

:hug: I can't even imagine how strange that would have been. My mom shared a name with a now-famous TV news type person, a person I had NEVER heard of until after 9/11 (my mom died 18 months prior to that). When I hear her mentioned on TV, it always makes a twinge in my heart.

OP, thanks for sharing! I am now convinced that I'm NOT ready for caller ID through the TV. :)

I do love having caller id on the tv though.

:lmao:

Peg, maybe we can both check into the looney bin together.

Okay, I can add a story. I was on my cell phone with my Mom while in the car. I got out of the car, locked the door and started walking, when I realized that I left the cell phone in the car. I walked back to the car to get the phone, all the while, talking to my Mom. I got back to the car, was starting to unlock it and then got hysterical. I was still on the phone.:rotfl::rotfl:

Ya'll are so funny! I literally laughed out loud when I read the "brain farts".
Last week, I was looking everywhere for my eyeglasses. I searched all the usual places, no luck. My DD sees me searching and asks what I'm looking for. I tell her my glasses. You should have seen her face when she pulled my glasses off the top of my head and handed them to me. She gave me that, "OMG, mom. You embarrass me" look. :rotfl:

Nice to know I'm not alone!!

Thanks, everyone, for sharing your stories. It is comforting to know that I am not alone. I'd blame it on old age, but I've done things like this for years.

Many years ago, before the age of the key fobs for cars, I went to our local mall. I was shopping for about 45 minutes before returning to my car. I sat my packages on the hood of my car to look for my keys, when I realized that the car was running. My keys were in the ignition. The car was locked and it was running! I was so embarrassed. I ran back into the mall to call for help. The fates were smiling on me because I ran into a very good friend. She had to drive me to another friend's house who had a spare key to my house, since my house key was on my key chain in the car. Once I had the spare house key, she took me to my home to get my spare car key and then back to the mall. The car was still running! Good thing I tend to keep my gas tank pretty full!

These are the things that happen when one's brain is full. The brain is only so big, and we're all very busy with very important things, constantly absorbing new information. When the brain gets full, it shuffles through things and chooses something it considers low on the priority list and pushes it out.

It's a similar theory to that of lost objects. There is a room in a parallel universe where all lost objects go. When that room is full, something you lost in 1972 will be returned to you.

I think we all do these crazy, unbelievable things. My two were equally dumb and embarassing.

1st - prepaid $20 for gas and drove off without pumping

2nd - shopped, paid for groceries, wheeled the cart to the curb, drove all the way home, and popped the trunk only to discover I didn't actually load the groceries into my car.

For the gas, I was too embarassed to return so I just filled elsewhere the next day, lol. The groceries I had to go back for since it was $150 worth and I nearly died of embarassment.

I'm sure it's not recommended, but I found that it's possible to fill your tank with the engine running the whole time.

It wasn't until I went to restart the car that I realized the engine was still on.....:rolleyes1
