It's addonitis. I just can't help myself.

I already have 260 points at AKV (in 3 separate contracts) :lovestruc and now I am scouring the resale sites for a small BCV contract (or two) so that I can bank and borrow to have a 2nd annual trip every 3rd year. :scared1:

Can anyone tell me the cure????

The cure for addonitis is maintenance fees and the dreaded "special assessment"! Personally, I think the cure is worse than the disease. And if you really want to cure addonitis, you've come to the wrong place! I think most everyone here on the disboards is what the doctors would call an "enabler" for someone with your disease.

I feel your pain.

I can totally sympathize with you. I convinced my husband to buy into DVC but he wanted VWL and I wanted BCV so I gave in and went with VWL. That was wonderful and the resale process was so easy that I kept the websites in my favorites just to look every now and again. Well then I saw a contract with our use year for BCV and it was too good a deal to pass up. So I knew my husband's reaction would be that I was crazy so I kind of did not mention it until I needed his signature and then I confessed that I had made an offer and it was accepted. He gave in but I think that only fed into my addiction becuse within 2 months, I bought another resale for HHI. All of this occurred within 6 months. That was 2 years ago and we could not be happier. But my husband made me promise I would not buy any more for a while. Well there was never any discussion about what qualified as a "while" so there is hope

No cure to be found here. DH and I have a 225 point contact at SSR and are in the process of getting together the necessary means for a 100 point contract (at least) somewhere.

Sorry from me too, I will enable. We went in to intially buy 160 points, and decided on 200 instead that first day. A year and a half later we added 100 more. 9 months later we went on the 4 night cruise and i went to the DVC presentation "to try and win cool gifts" and bought another 100 points. So we now have 400. As a previous poster said, the cure can be found in your mailbox, come January, when your annual dues statement arrives. It sure shut me down for a while. I think we're good with our 400 points. :goodvibes

Addonitis indeed is real, but also gets balanced out eventually when you feel the heat of the maintenance fees that can only go up.

Don't worry, the balance will happen. Have fun until you feel the heat.

If you find a cure please let me know. We started out at BWV. We thought 210 points would be a good amount. After staying in a DVC we decided we needed to add on. Did another 210. Then BCV we stayed at decided to buy there. We were happy with what we had until BLT came out. We did the first 160 for the tile. We saw the point chart and decided to add 125 and got the cruise. Then they better incentives came out so we added 150. Thought we were done until DVC came to Boston and with the incentives added 200.

Well, thanks to all of you "enablers", I have just added on a 60 point contract at BCV. :rotfl:

Now that is definitely IT for me. :rolleyes1 At least until I see my maintenance fee bills in January. I'm hoping the shock will stop me. :scared1:

In the meantime, I am going to live in my own blissful little world of DVC points and imagine my vacations for the next five years. I am happy.

Awwwww, no advice here other than to enjoy your new points!!

More cowbell?

Doink-doink-doink-doink-doink

That was, without a doubt, the most hysterical skit I've ever seen!! :rotfl2:

Wow you didn't even resist 24 hours! I don't think you needed any enabling from us!:rotfl:

Nah....I've been thinking about it for months now -- ever since my last add-on! ;)

Now I really AM done.....until I find a deal I can't refuse.....no, reallly, no more......really.....until some incredible incentive comes in.....no, no, i'm reaaaaaaly done.....somebody help me.....

On a serious note, I could afford it -- who needs an emergency fund anyway? :confused3 I figure a BCV contract has a good resale record, so if I ever really need to dump it (God forbid), I will be able to do so quickly.

So, when I'm ready to book my first BCV trip, I'm going to need lots of advice and will definitely be posting to the DIS about it!

Let's take this one step further :scared1:
I have the answer to the cure:scared1::scared1:
We started with 185 BWV back in 2000. Added on 4 times:scared1::scared1::scared1:
(small contracts 25 a piece - 2 at BW - 2 at AKV)

Maintenance fees started getting alittle (just alittle) swollen:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:
I started using my Disney Visa card for EVERYTHING:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:
I pay it in full each month and take those wonderful
little disney reward dollars and apply them to my maintenance fees each month, supplemented a little bit each month by a few more $$ charged on the Disney Visa:cutie: (thereby adding a couple of rewards dollars for the next month:cool1:) so that I pay XXX amt each month and by the end of the year (I'm on annual statements), I don't owe anything:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

I'm going to the Garden City, LI event this Saturday, and I've got that darn addonitis REALLY BAD! Justifying it this way, UH OH I think we're in trouble!!:woohoo:

I have been using my Disney Visa for everything as well! I'm going to rack up those reward points!!!

By the way, my guide recently told me that Chase now has a Disney DEBIT card. Of course, you have to have a Chase account, but it puts a lot more control on your spending habits -- no credit card bill at the end of the month!

We started with 150 about 12 years ago, then within the first year or so we added 50. For about 10 years we were perfectly content with 200 points. Then last fall we were at Woodfield mall with some friends and took then into the Disney Doorway to Dreams DVC location and walked out with 110 more points - and they walked out with either 200 or 250. Plus we had 100 extra developer points. So we thought we were really point-rich. Then this year we were staying at Saratoga and decided to set up a visit with our guide since we had never met him face-to-face - walked out of that little visit with another 100 points. So now we have 410 - 200 at Old Key West and 210 at Saratoga. I would like to have small contract over at Beach Club, but hopefully we are in remission for awhile.
