would you consider crunhes....

Calisthenics (e.g. push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups), heavy, vigorous effort

OR

Calisthenics home exercise, light or moderate effort, general, going up & down from floor

I have been using the first one on fitday.com , but now I am wondering...I build up quite a sweat and I ache enough...so which is it???

A crunch is basically a modified sit-up, so if a sit-up is listed in the first group, that's what I'd say you're doing.

:)

With the number that you do in a day, I would abolutely say the first category!!

Thanks guys...Hey when I first started doing them..I could not do more than 10...ok ten is a push...I could not even bend the correct way...to much middle...Now I do about 300 a day :) So, if I can do it...anyone can

Glo,
Did you just keep going? Along with the middle? I am afraid of starting crunches because I don't want to make my stomach pooch out more (if that is even possible! :p ). Weak, poochy stomachs run in my dad's side of the family. All of the women develop the 'overhang'. I've got that but want it to go away!!

Should I wait until the middle is smaller? Or jump right in? Any tips on the correct form? I know I don't know how to do it right because my neck gets so tired!

WHen I started this diet 2 years ago and 76 pounds ago...I had a huge pooch and no stomach muscles. 6 years ago I had twins, I got so big, I lost my bellybutton and my stomach muscle separated. I was a mess 245 lbs and only 5 ft. tall. 2 years ago I was a post by webmaster Alex about his incredible weight loss, including pictures, and it inspired me to try it. Well, in 6 months I lost 50 pounds, and I kept it off pretty much. Then this last Dec. I decided to try again, and take off the last 25-30 pounds, and get fit. I really have this big hanging baggage, that I am sure is not going to go away w/o surgery, BUT hs gone down quite a bit with exercise. On 2/27 of this year I started measuring again...My waist was at 37.5, around the bellybutton was 40, and hips were 38.75...this last Wednesday I measured again and waist was 33.25, bellybutton was 36, and hips were 35.75...for a total of 9.5 inches lost in just those places combined in two months :) I would do the crunches...they will not make you buldge out...muscle takes up less space than fat. I would do lots of aerobic exercise...as that is what burns fat.

Hope that explains what I think...I know I talk to much!!!

Oh, you never talk too much, Glo!! I am getting my aerobic exercise in each day. I have decided to start doing weight training (courtesy of TigH's link to M&F Hers) weekly. I haven't been as faithful to pilates - again because of the pooch. I have been waiting for more to disappear. ;) I am going to find some instructions on proper crunches though. That may get me back to pilates quicker! And I really enjoy it! :)

Thanks for the info and inspiration!
