Hey, I'm Rachel and I post on the TeenBoard.
I am a 10th grader in high school and this summer, my parents would like me to get a job. I'd like a job also because last year i was a bum who did nothing.. fun, but boringish. So I was wondering if you guys could help me by answering these questions.

what was your first job?

What did you do?

Would you recommend working there?

Thanks :)

The summer after sophomore year I had a babysitting job. I babysat once a week most weeks, with a few weeks being 2-3 times a week depending on what the family needed. Babysitting gave me a ton of flexibility. The summer after that I started working for my dad's company plus babysitting. It wasn't until last summer (summer after freshman year of college) that I got a "real" job, in a department store. I would suggest you talk to your friends and find out where they work. Around here most of the places that you can actually get a job in high school are grocery stores. A LOT of the retail places around here won't hire until you're 18. Some will, but you definitely have to look hard. If any of your friends have jobs, it wouldn't hurt to apply to the places they work; I know last summer litterally the ONLY way to get a job was to have a connection at the place.

My first job was at McDonald's, I was 15. It wasn't a terrible job because unless you were 16+, you didn't have to work the grill. So, I basically did the drive-thru and the registers in the dining room.

If you don't mind going home smelling like a french fry everyday, it's not a bad gig...LOL (But I wouldn't reccommend working someplace like Burger King or Taco Bell...they're definitely not as clean as Mikey D's.)
