I have a question about using my own scooter

Hello!

Unfortunately, my condition has progressed to the point where we have had to aquire a scooter for my use both at home AND at Disney - I used to be able to get around everywhere else, but... well... now I need one for the mall, Publix, Wal-mart, etc. I just found out I'm lecturing in 2 different buildings on campus next semester, so that was the icing on the cake.

I love the one I have, its a Golden Buzzround Lite, but I was at MK all day yesterday, not even a heavy day, and the battery ran completely out! Its a very small scooter, but our main priority was getting one that I could break down and assemble by myself. This is the only one that fit the bill - well, we did try a Pride Go-Go, but it was even less durable than this one.

Is there anywhere in any of the parks where I could go to charge it a little bit, if needed? Yesterday the 7th graders I was chaperoning had to push me up the monorail ramp and across the TTC parking lot to the buses. It was pretty embarassing! Would First Aid let me do that there?

Thanks!

There are a lot of electrical outlets around; it just takes some looking. One place I have always found them is near the restrooms of the larger counter service restaurants and in shows.

When I was (on occasion) using a low power ECV if I was going for lunch somewhere I would park the ECV near an outlet and plug it in. Then I would go and get my food and find a table to sit at. Puttiing an occasional 30 minute charge in the middle of the day helps a lot. Likewise, if going for a sit-sown meal I could always find an outlet in the restuarnt lobby and then easily charge it for an hour or more.

One thing to do is when you are going to be stopped for a minute or longer turn the key to off. This will save a lot of power.

THanks!!!!

Y'know - I saw outlets all over the place, but was afraid of being dragged away by Security! I can easily do that, just didn't know it would be allowed.

I'm getting in the habit of putting the key in my pocket - yesterday, it became a complete necessity, lol. Imagine what 7th grade boys can do when the key is left in!

BTW - I think I parked next to you at Epcot a couple of Saturdays ago. Do you have a license tag that would make you readily ID'd? ;)

Security will not drag you away. Ask a CM in the area and they will help you find an outlet. Disabled guests are allowed to use the plugs to restore batteries.

I was *very* paranoid about my battery power (though I had no reason to be. the scooter we rented off-site was not even halfway through the "green zone" at the end of each day) but I would turn my key off in slow moving lines every time we moved 5 feet and then stopped :D

Not yet. My old ECV had a Figment bicycle license plate and a Cheshire Cat sticker. I have not yet customized the new one. However, I have a DIS key fob, which is a large lime green "1".

Any idea how to customize my Jazzy with something DIS. No key. Wish I could find a lime green Mickey antenna topper.

My wife and I made a sign featuring our cat who was being left home alone for the longest time since we got her. We got a ton of comments on it. Her Mickey Hat has her name (Reeses) on it. The RRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrRRRRRRRrrrr is there because that's the sound the scooter makes and she makes noises that sound like that too :)

LOL, actually, I meant your car! We were in the HC parking at Epcot, and parked next to a (very nice) new Ford with a lift on the back, and it had a very recognizable license plate, which I immediately thought might be yours.

Oh well, I guess there's another Figment fan running around! I think there's quite a few actually - what made me notice that car was that it had the same Figment antenna topper that we have on our car, and they looked neat parked next to each other.

Yes, that was me. And the plate is F1GMENT, not FIGMENT. (Also, if you had looked in the front you would have seen an expired Virginia plate that also says F1GMENT.)

This is what I did for my ECV. The Mickey heads are bordered with crystals (300 of them) I call it the Glitzy Mickeymobile. I also made a sign for the basket that says: My other coach is a pumpkin.

It is easy to make a cover like this for a WC, too. I made a flowered one and covered the seat cushion to match.

My daughters purple power chair is covered in princess stickers. I am not sure thats quite the way to go, but she loves it!

She got a new battery 2 weeks ago ad our vendor told her not to go back to Disney. He said when she got back he would not even know her chair was purple! :rotfl:
