Then ever... they are driving me crazy and I also have spy bot spy ware :confused3 :earseek: :cold: :sad2:  :scared1:  :crazy2:

Try downloading and running Lavasoft Ad-Aware.

i noticed that i too am getting alot of pop ups lately
i have a pop up blocker spybot and ad-aware

any suggestions on a really good pop up blocker???

My suggestion:

Stop using Microsoft Internet Explorer to browse websites, and start using Mozilla Firefox.
It has a built in pop-up blocker, and isn't vulnerable to the millions of security holes that IE opens your computer to....

I've been using it for almost a year now, and it's the best thing I've ever done.

Hope that helps yoU! :)

Can you use both on your system or does one overide the other?

You can use both. If you're trying to download something, Internet Explorer is better because Mozilla wants to save everything to disk. But for browsing Mozilla is way better

Go to Add/Remove programs. Do you have Deal Helper installed? I had this for about a week and it drove me crazy!

We have lavasoft as well and I have to tell the computer if a site is okay for pop-ups. It works great.

Thanks! :wave2:

You should also run Spybot.

Adaware:

Firefox:

I highly recommend using Firefox. It's much better at not allowing crap into your system. Of course, there are times where you need to use IE for a legitimate site, but for the most part I use Firefox 98% of the time.

Adaware and spybot should both be run weekly, if not more frequently depending on your surfing. There is a thread on the tech board about this, because some of the spyware is really hard to remove.

I use three concurrently, the Ad-aware mentioned above, and SpySweeper. Both of these, though hey have a free version, I have the pay-for version, runs continually in the backgroud, preventing intrusions, rather than running every so often to clear already incurred intruisions. The third is the new MS beta release of its anti- spyware. It also runs in the background and I have it do an nightly sweep at 4 in the morning. I have -0- problems.

I use adaware and spybot for the spyware / malware stuff (both are free) and Pop Up Stopper from panicware.com to stop popups. NOTHING pops up on my screen, once I have a single IE window open, unless I hold down the control key to allow it to.

Same here, but I hardly use Spybot. I only downloaded it last week when I was having problems with Deal Helper. Deal Helper was causing pop-ups that I couldn't stop and even though Ad-Aware would remove them the program was on my system. Once I learned that there were multiple DH programs to uninstall and removed them I have been op-up free once again.

I use spysweeper from webroot. You can download for I think a month or more for free. No pop ups. I was getting a couple on the Dis boards when I would click on some posts. But that looks like it has stopped. Go into control panel. add remove programs and remove items from there.

KaterBell, I downloaded Mozilla today based on your suggestion. So far I like it, although I need to rearrange my bookmarks. ;)

Anyway, I tried to listen to Live365 with it, and it wouldn't play the sound. I had to use my IE instead. Do you know why Mozilla might prevent me from getting sound?

vettechick: Live365 is only configured for IE. They haven't configured their site to run firefox. I usually use IE just for Live365 or you can listen using WinAmp.

Yay!! I'm glad you enjoy it so far.

I just tried live365.com with my firefox browser, and it looks like it wants to use a default player (in my case, iTunes) to play the music, instead of using IE's built in browser media player... So if you don't mind telling Firefox what to play it with, I think it should work, it's just not as straightforward as IE.
