I had a thought today. I am a knitter. I love to knit. My family isn't big on knitwear. I like to knit for others. I had a thought. What if I made a lovely hand knit item and put it up on Ebay? What if there are other crafty type people out there willing to make a lovely hand made item and put it up on Ebay? Are there some other DISers out there who think this is a good idea? Anyone willing to contribute a hand made item?

Let me know what you think.

Kim

I wouldn't mind contributing.

The only thing I can knit is a scarf...

Would we make one big ebay account just for Power of 10?

Love it! Handknit items are such a nice thing to have or to give. I think you are onto something...I bet there are a lot of crafty people around here. If a good few people donated one item each and there were weekly or biweekly auctions, I would bet a nice amount could be raised.

I think it's a great idea Kim. For our breakfast on Sunday, a very generous DISer contributed two handmade patchwork quilts for our silent auction. I remember the little girl who won one of the quilts was a WISH child, and she was thrilled to get the quilt. The look on her face when she found out she won it was priceless.

Oh great idea! I have another idea. What about a pre-made Disney scrapbook. I think people pay pretty high dollar for these on eBay. May be just the thing to get me out of my non creative rut. LOL

I'm also a maker of stuff (knits and earrings, mostly). I'd be willing to put something up.

What a super idea! I am not a crafty type but very much enjoy others' craftiness, and I'd certainly be inclined to bid in this type of auction. I actually participated in a similar online auction (in support of two young children with serious illnesses) and won a beautiful necklace. Felt good all around. :)

What a great idea! I agree that Etsy.com might be a better place to sell handmade items. Sometimes they even feature sellers who are donating to a good cause on the home page!

What about making custom vacation count downs? I could also make some hotel decoration packs. I know I can't afford to order the floral arrangements or special birthday room set ups but I could make something people could take with them. It could just be $20-$30 for a door sign, paper garlands, a custom banner, and mickey confetti in a nice flat package to fit in a suitcase.

Just a thought. What do you think?

(not sure why theres a thumbs down in the topic box. Sorry!)

I would so bid on something like that! Great idea!

I've never heard of etsy.com, so I'm off to check that out...amazing the things I've learned about here!

Great idea! I never thought of it. I make jewelry. (friendship and bead stuff) Nothing very extravagant but I can make some cool mickey themed ones or something like that.

Wish I thought of it earlier! I would of loved to have donated something to you Dave!! Especially since we couldn't be there.

I wish this had been thought of earlier too! I used to make collectible teddy bears and would have happily donated at least one or two for the cause. Are they planning to add a silent auction to the July 2 GKTW/Power of 10 event? Otherwise, I'm not sure of the logistics but I'd put up a few bears and donate the proceeds by one of the other ways suggested.

Love your ideas! I'm not crafty at all....but I would definitely be on the purchasing end!

This is a great idea!

If I can make a suggestion for those of you who like to knit . . . maybe those going to the December DIS event at WWOHP would be interested in Harry Potter scarves. It's a basic knit striped scarf in the house (Gryfindor, Slytherin, etc.) colors as seen in the movies. There are many posted on Etsy and Ebay. If you get a Etsy or Ebay site set-up you could post a link in the post about the December DIS event.

When we were at WDW last December during a cold snap last December there were LOTS of people wearing the Gryfindor scarf that Universal was selling for $35 :scared1: Here's a link to the universal scarf:

I think this is a great idea. I sew.....I make these really nice "lap" blankets and I would be more than willing to make one for the cause.

If you can get this set up, please send me a PM and I'll work on one.

I was thinking the same thing this week! I recently started posting over with the Disboutiquers, and that's what gave me the idea. I'd be willing to sew some items. Pillowcases, crayon rolls, etc.:thumbsup2

Another charitable website I'm a member of, had a quilt fundraiser a few years ago where lots of people designed and created a unique quilt square - then sent that to a member who pieced them all together to make one large quilt.

The quilt was then auctioned off - it made a lot of money and was gorgeous!

It meant that many could contribute a small amount to make a larger piece which was nice to build the community too.

Great idea! I would be willing to contribute knitted hats and scarves.

I think this is a great idea and would love to help if I can!

I'm not a knitter or quilter, but I'm a cardmaker and rubber stamping Instructor. I'm also on the Design Team for a stamp company.

If you would like to me to make some handmade cards to donate, please PM me.
