1) I'm looking at some resale contracts...Can you explain points that are in "reservation status"? It sounds like you cannot use these points for the DVC resorts. If so, what can they be used for? Do they expire at the end of the current use year?

2) I recall reading that if you are ready to book a vacation through DVC and you are short a few points, then Disney will now "rent" points to you for a fee. If so, please tell me the maximum allowable number of points to "rent" and what the fee is through Disney.

Thanks for your knowledge! I still hope to become a member sometime!

Points in reservation status cannot be banked.

From dvcbyresale - explanation of points in reservation status:
When an owner makes a reservation outside the Disney Vacation Club Resorts (such as a cruise, or a stay at the Polynesian hotel), then cancels that reservation, DVC designates them as "reservation" points. Basically they have designated those points for usage outside the DVC resorts and they can't be "put back". Reservation points can be used for any of the Disney hotels, the Concierge Collection, cruises, etc. The only thing they cannot be used for are staying at the DVC Resorts or the World Passport Collection. Reservation points must be used within the use year they are designated and may not be banked, borrowed or transferred.

As to renting points through Disney - I believe it is $15/point. I do not know what kind of limit there is, if any.

You can obtain a maximum of 24 one-time-use vacation points once per use year per membership directly from DVC for the $15 per pt.

Reservation points means someone has already made a reservation outside of DVC with those points and then cancelled with the effect that the points can now be used only for something outside of the DVC resorts.

Starting very recently, DVC now sells one-time filler points, up to 24 at $15 a point, to add a little to a reservation you are otherwise making with points, and only when reserving at 7 months out or less, and you can do it only for one trip per use year.

BTW, if you use those reservation pts to book a stay in a wdw hotel, there is an additional $95 fee.
