I hate trying to hire new people

Trying to find a new assistant editor...out of 42 resumes...9 I'd consider interviewing. I cannot believe the mistakes people make on resumes and cover letters...would you ever start out with "Dear FIRST NAME" when the person's first and last names are given in the ad? And a few even spelled my name wrong! One ended with "Take care!"...and I won't even mention the typos.

The only thing worse is applying for jobs!

I submitted a letter and resume for a job here a couple weeks ago. It said to address it to the attention of J. Smith (fictitious of course.) Well, do I guess if it's Mr. Smith or Ms. Smith or Dr. Smith? LOL! I certainly wouldn't put...Dear J. Smith.

Hiring people is such a pain. When I was looking for a secretary, I couldn't believe what I was seeing on resumes...and those were the ones that had made it through screening by our personnel dept.

The one thing that I did immediately was to count the number of jobs the person had had over the years. It was amazing how many people had had something like 8 jobs in 6 years, or 7 jobs in 9 years. I know that honesty is a virtue, but folks would list on their resumes jobs that they'd managed to lose after only a month.

It's also sad how many applicants are overqualified...I guess the job market hasn't improved much!
