But is there anywhere at POR or the parks where DD and SIL can buy a lighter? They can't bring them on the plane and by the time we get to WDW they'll be having nicotine fits! (Serves 'em right).

You can carry-on matches and my DH put a lighter in the front pocket of our checked luggage and no one took it.

Tell them to check with security at the airport when you land. Not the office but where people are going through security. At the airport in Birmingham they have a pile of them and I have seen people walk up and ask for them and they will give them to you so long as you're not going back into the secure area.....its worth a shot.

My friend and I went through the same thing last year. We threw our lighters away at the airport and both had our allowed 2 books of matches. By about day 3 we were running out of matches but we found a nice lady in one of the parks who gave us one of her lighters. On the last day we were shopping at ASMo gift shop and what do we see behind the counter but a whole tray of cheapie lighters! So the resorts have them for guest but you have to ask or go serching.

The following is a quote from the TSA Website about checked lighters:

Checked Baggage Rules

You may take up to 2 fueled Zippo lighters in your checked baggage if they are properly enclosed in a DOT approved case. You can bring unlimited quantities of unfueled lighters in your checked baggage. If you are uncertain as to whether your lighter is prohibited, please refrain from bringing it to the airport

They keep both lighters and cig. behind the counter. I took 1 book of matches per cig. pkge. last year, but had I known I could have just bought them (I saw someone buying both cig. and lighter at the resort) I wouldn't have bothered taking them from home. :thumbsup2
