I hate the new search function!

The DIS operates on servers paid for, in part, by advertising and, in part, by sponsorship. Search capability is limited by the available hardware. If the DIS had unlimited hardware, they probably could support the old Search capability. The more folks who sponsor the site, the better our service can be. While your personal site sponsorship might not restore the Search capability, I bet every little bit helps.

Boo-hoo. Aside from posting, a working search function is the most necessary thing for a discussion board. If the site can't handle it, maybe they can move to an ezboard or something.

Why have a search page at all? It is completely unusable. Why not eliminate the search box, and put a page that says "we can't afford search at this time, sorry".

If they want to cut bandwidth, eliminate all the smileys and signature elements.

Search may now not do what you want it to do, but I, personally, have found it to be far superior to the old functionality. As a matter of fact, it does exactly what I have been asking for for years. While I appreciate that that doesn't address your needs, please don't imply that my needs, now fully satisfied, don't exist, by saying that the Search is "completely unusable."

Can't search for posts on a topic, or by a person etc. I am so frustrated I could scream. I've learned to copy and paste items when I find them!

I can't get the serch function to work at all. No matter what I try, it just will not find any threads at all, mine or anyone else's. I'm going to change my settings so I now subcribe to threads when I post, but I thought the old serch function of "find all posts by username" was much better.

Let's see. Search should find something. Search for posts by user? Unusable results. Search for any topic. Page hangs, no return, dog sits, nothing. Multiple computers, multiple tries. I can't imagine getting any return from the search engine, let alone something that would fulfill any needs, unless your need was a blank return page.

How 'bout a demonstration of something that works for you?

So typical... money is the reason, wherewithal and solution to everything....

I also hate the fact that I cannot find posts and it was the number one search I did. I am mostly interested in less than 1% of the stuff on the CB so I have to subscribe to every thread I want to keep up with since it moves soooooo fast.

Use the following syntax:

SpshMtn99 site:disboards.com

That's more precise in its filtering.

We'll you're having a very unique problem. I have three computers that I use (laptop, desktop, wife's desktop), alternatively, and all three return results for me, as does my computer at work (which I typically do not use). You'll need to post a message on the Technical Support board, so one of the webmasters can help you figure out what setting on your browser is messing things up.

How 'bout a demonstration of something that works for you?

Then enter your search terms (words, not user names). Let us know if you get return values back.
