Help me to feel better about the coming severe weather in my area overnight. You would think I would be used to them at this stage in my life ( have lived here all my life-50 yrs:confused3). I still do not like them and they make me nervous. I am praying for all to be kept safe tonight and tomorrow.

I am with you--daytime storms aren't as "bad" because you can see what is going on-like if there is a tornado heading down your street, but the overnight ones you can't see the clouds, you can't sleep. We had a week several years ago where we had one night after another -about 5 in a row with overnight storms and we got NO sleep for a week. YUCK.

Stay safe!!

I understand the no sleep part. I am sure there won't be much sleep to be had by me tonight. Of course, my husband is at work, so a long night by myself.:scared1:

I lived in the Midwest the majority of my life and never grew comfortable with severe weather events. I hated night storms. Fortunately, night storms are very, very rare in Florida.

Stay safe OP and all others experiencing severe weather tonight!

I am 43 and they freak me out.

Thunder shaking the house freaks me out the most. I had a tree hit our house during hurricane Isabel and feels like thunder when it shook the house but there was no thunder.

A few years ago, I was driving to Richmond to take my DD to be with her DF. It was awful, we got in this freaky hail event. People were off the side of the interstate, hail dime size was hitting the car.

i was thinking where there is hail sometimes there is a tornado, but my car radio was out. So if one was near by I didn't know. It lessened enough for me to get the heck out of the there, but I was about to cry, it freaked me out so bad. I am thinking am I going to have to get out, DM and DD out of the car and lay in the ditch when the tornado comes if one comes. I was a hot mess trying not to let my DD see me upset.

I live in the same place as you, WDWAngela. They've been predicting this with really dramatic language for days! So far, so good...stay safe. Ever since the derecho hit with no warning we take storms very seriously here.

It keeps trying to rain here but it just will not start.

We are under a tornado watch right now until 4am.

I understand 100%. Grew up in Northern IL and now live in NE TN. Luckily, the mountains seen to break up most of the storms before they hit us at full force and this line isn't supposed to hit us until early afternoon. Still, it stresses me out... I hate bad storms.

Awww... Not sure what I can say that'll make you feel better, except that I can understand. My husband has always traveled quite a bit for business, and I've spent many nights at home without him. Funny, but the older I get, the more nervous I get about being home alone at night. And a storm brewing would make me even more nervous! Now, being alone during the daytime doesn't bother me in the least. In fact, I very much enjoy my alone time!:rotfl:

When our kids were growing up, it never really bothered me when my husband had to be out of town. Maybe just knowing there were others in the house (even wee ones:)) made me feel better.

If it's just me, I usually pop some popcorn, wrap up in a blanket, and watch sitcoms, or read a lighthearted book or work on a jigsaw puzzle. Many times I'll fall asleep on the couch with the tv on.:)

Try to find things to do to keep your mind off the weather. Stay safe and have a good night!

WDWangela, Where in Southern Illinois are you? I'm in Southern Illinois too (Fairfield, exactly) and it has just started to REALLY pour down, lightning & thunder. I too hate storms, but fortunately for me my husband is home and thank goodness we have a basement. I just hate these kind of storms in the middle of the night. Guess I won't be sleeping much tonight! Stay safe and hope you get some rest tonight.

Really? It must be passing right over us. Guess I should turn on the weather now.;)

OK, looks like it is heading north of St. Louis right now.

I love to hear a good rain or a summer time thunderstorm, day or night, but I hate severe weather at anytime like tornadoes and high winds, especially at night. We have a large lot with lots of big trees all around, and I am always so scared on is going to fall on the house or into the pool.

OP, stay safe tonight. Just keep the TV on and check the weather every now and then. We will be praying for you.

Thanks so much! Our granddaughter is only nine days old, so we're still getting used to saying the "grandkids" are coming to visit! For two and half years, it's always been "grandson".:) They are both sweethearts and we love them to pieces!:lovestruc

Awww, well congratulations!! I am looking forward to that one of these days myself. :goodvibes

We live in Carrier Mills it is just very windy here so far. Wonder if it will be heading our way. Have not been watching the news. Guess I better turn it on to check.

Well, had to head down to the basement.

Tornado was spotted 15miles away from us, so down the basement we went.

It was fast and lasted about only 10ish minutes? Lights flickered on and off, high winds at 70mph, and then the hail.

Stay safe everyone. It was on us before we knew it.

I hate them too. I refused to buy a house without a basement. We tend to spend a lot of time there between March through May. The storms are comming through the Nashville area right now. Thankfully they seemed to have lightened up just a bit. Made for an intresting drive to work though this morning. Had a tornado warning yesterday for my specific area and if my neighbor wouldn't have called me I never would have knew it. Got some neat pictures of an amazing storm cloud.

Sorta just waiting for them to get over here. I honestly think I hate the wait more then the actual storm. I think I may go out to the deck and move the new grill so it is against the house instead of along the railing.

Honestly, we get mostly worried about the winds. We live so far above the valley that flooding just does not happen unless the town ends up totally underwater. But the winds... ugh! Last time we had some bad storms some places were out of power for awhile because of the lines being taken out by trees. Some houses just finished getting repairs due to wind damage (one apartment building lost their roof) so I really hope it doesn't get that bad this time.
