hee hee.

I bought their room ionizer (Honeywell brand) and literally several hours later I found the exact same thing for CAD$30 cheaper elsewhere. So I went back to Rat Shack and tried to return it and the following is the conversation I had with the Rat Shack employee.

Me: "I just bought this several hours later and I found it $30 cheaper elsewhere, so I want to return it" (and showing him the receipt of the other store)

RatShack: "Is there anything wrong with it?"

Me: "As I mentioned previously, it's $30 cheaper elsewhere, for an item that's only $120, your price is 25% higher, so I'd like to return the item."

RatShack: "Let me call the manager and see what he can do for you"

Me: "Huh? I want to return the item, I don't want a price-match, I don't want to talk to anybody. All I want is me-give-you-this-product and you-give-me-money-back".

RatShack: "I'll get the manager for approval"

Me: "Look, if you don't refund my money right now, I'm going to make so much noise you'll need a security to remove me from your premise. Your call."

RatShack: "I'll give your money back, Sir".

If the issue was the difference in price, why not accept the offer of the store to adjust the price you paid to the amount you saw wlsewhere? That is not an uncommon practice.

Maybe the other store bought the item at a lower price, therefore enabling them to offer it for sale for less.

Like I previously mentioned, I already purchased the item elsewhere for cheaper and I showed the receipt to them.

I'd rather buy from a company that sells for less than buying from a company who's trying to sell the same item for more at first then I have to do 'haggle' for a price match.

It's a nickname for Radio Shack

I hate Rat Shack too.;)

But , maybe this employee wasn't authorized to do a return transaction? Lots of times when I need to return things, the person immediately at the counter is apparently unable to take care of it and has to call a superior. Perhaps you misunderstood?

Not really, in the end he did the return transactions all by himself. I think he's just being difficult.

I think that's on the first page of their employee handbook.;) (No offense to RS employees...the ones near us...unbelievably bad service.)

It seems to me that you went in there with a bad attitude. You could have very easily just gone in and said you wished to return the item. Period. Since you opted to show the reciept, perhaps the clerk was under the impression that you wanted to get a price adjustment. There are places that advertise price match plus 10% if you find the same item elsewhere after you buy it from them. I don't know if Radio Shack is one of these retailers.

I have never had an unpleasant experience with Radio Shack., I am sorry you did. Maybe you were not as abrupt as your post came off, if you were, I can't understand why you think the clerk was the problem. There is nothing that says a clerk has to put up with a custonmers ill behaviour, that is what store management is for.

Although English is not my mother tongue and I do have a tad of Australian accent, I don't think "I'd like to return the item" phrase can be mistaken as "I'd like to have a price-match".

... especially after saying "I'd like to return the item" TWICE and the don't have price-matching policy (at least not in Canada)

Attitude is definitely not the problem because I only have problems returning things to Radio Shack (and I only return maybe 1 out of 5 items I buy from RadioShack, usually because they are of poor quality (for example, a Bluetooth headset that doesn't work with both Bluetooth cellphones I own. After the exchange, the same model works with both phone but only gave me 1-hour talk time when it was advertised to have up to 5-hour talk time).

I have to admit that in the end I did have the bad attitude, but that was stemmed from the salesperson being deliberately difficult.
